I am not easily spooked by books, but this one really sent a shiver down my spine. I haven‘t been so creeped out since I read The Turn of the Screw as a teenager. A slowly developing sense of menace suffuses the entire story & that the writer manages to imbue a rucksack with malevolence is particularly impressive. A concise, powerfully evocative read that left me feeling as chilly as the Himalayas in which it is set.

lele1432 This one looks so good! I can't wait to read it! 2w

“As the Korean saying goes, do the work of the dead in the land of the living”.

“Every woman who enters the sea carries a coffin on her back. In this world, the undersea world, we tow the burdens of a hard life”.

Women harvest together, sort together, and sell together. The sea itself is communal.

So evocative of a time & the feelings - love & pain - in a beautifully written tale. However, a bit like Captain Corelli's Mandolin, it's a book of two pieces and could have been better tied together.

It may look like I haven‘t been reading, but I have. Going through some judging books currently and probably shouldn‘t be posting them as liberally as I have done in the past. #oops but I received this book from Netgalley and it‘s out in Canada and the US next week, so here is my review https://trishtalkstexts.wordpress.com/2019/07/11/review-the-gamers-guide-to-gett... short version: I liked it a lot. #blogging #trishtalkstexts #reviews

History is important, very important. If we don‘t know about it, we can‘t learn from it. Read this absolutely terrifying account of everyday life in Stalinist Russia, and if you had any nagging doubts about the value of democracy and a free press, they will be erased forever. While far from perfect, democracy is still better than all the alternatives.

#myopinion: I feel like I've been trying to read this book for a long a time. Well finally I'm about 80% done, so I thought I give my opinion on what I've read so far. To me, it starts off a bit slow, then it picks up, and then it dips back down again. Circe is well written, but overall the story is boring. I'd give it a 3/5..

This book is a real eye opener. It makes you think about perspective. I kind of related to the main character. How she tried not to find the good in people. I admit, that I have a hard time trying to connect with people. This was definitely one of my favorite reads. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #AVeryLargeExpanseOfSea #TaherehMafi #book #books #read #bookrecommendation #bookreview #bookreviews #review #reviews #recommendation #YoungAdult #Contemporary #YA 💕💕💕💕

I found it fascinating when I learnt the author researched the whole thing without leaving London. It shows the power of imagination in conjuring up worlds of which one has no experience. This shouldn‘t, I suppose, be a surprise. I don‘t imagine JK Rowling has ever visited a school for wizards, Tolkien never ventured very far from Oxford, & CS Lewis had perfectly normal wardrobes, but it‘s still impressive nonetheless!
