I won‘t say much about this book, because it is our #LMPBC pick for #groupL, but although it is interesting and informative in some ways, it left something to be desired. Another one that I powered through recently. Again, another tough subject due to LGBTQ relationships, a crime, and the survival of a unit with kids and trying to find a place and a sense of belonging. There was some positive notes to this, but it felt rushed, disjointed and sadly disappointing. I would have #DNF‘ed it, but something forced me to keep going. 3⭐️😕 #recentlyread #nospoilers

A book that I was able to finish recently. It was interesting in some of its personal parallels. A boy that took an exam to come to the US from Russia as an exchange student, due to his brilliance with languages. A wrongful accusation. A struggle for the truth. And a struggle for understanding. Poignant, emotionally charged, and well written. It will stay with me for some time. 4.5/5 #recentlyread #nospoilers

Exceptionally late review, and probably an #unpopular opinion, but I bought this to continue the series and although I was still impressed, it felt a little rushed, disjointed and just not quite there for me. Perhaps it's the ending, perhaps it's something else. But for me it's 3.5 ⭐. #recentlyread #nospoilers #YAfiction #YAFantasy 👸

This was a fascinating story. It was interesting to read about New York and the buckaneer culture when it was alive and thriving. I made the mistake of picking up this book before Oryx and Crake, not realizing it was part of a trilogy. Also, the passages written by Adam One I just couldn't stomach. I felt like I was glimpsing an alternate reality, which made me uncomfortable, because in a strange way it is possible. Otherwise, the story was engaging and fascinating. I am a huge fan of Greek mythology. And the story of the Odyssey is one of my favorites. That being said, it was fascinating to read about Odysseus and some of the other characters from a completely fresh, new and interesting perspective. She makes classical literature fun. Trying to keep up with reviews. All I have to say is that I respect this author a lot. As a result, I wanted to read something by her which was not the saga she is so well known for, but I was afraid to be disappointed. Thankfully, it's furthest from the truth. The main character is funny, relatable, and jump-of-the-page real. The supporting characters are just as strong. And despite all of the odds... that ending. 😭😍❤️📚🎉 #nospoilers #scifi

This book was another fascinating installment from this wonderful series. As the story has progressed, more and more interesting supporting characters have been added, and it is a testament to the authors talent that the storyline remains interesting, the historical facts remain on point and the reader (or at least me, anyway) cares more and more for the twins (while having mixed feelings for the Flamel). #recentlyread #nospoilers #YAFANTASY

On top of that, it left me wondering how an author could make a murder investigation feel so dull and procedural? ?
