Clara is ready for her last year of high school. But on the 1st day she finds out the school is banning a bunch of books. When she is given the books to put in her little libraries, Clara decides she is going to make her own underground library at school. So many people are checking out the books. She is so excited that it is working out until a tragedy strikes. Was it her fault for loaning out the banned books?

Hi everyone! My name is Lindsey and I‘m brand new to Listy! I heard about this sight through a podcast called Well Read. When I heard it was basically Instagram for books I knew I had to check it out since I only ever use Instagram for book posts. I‘m really looking forward to joining this community because book people are the best people 😄

Mehso-so

I love the message this book was trying to convey, but I had a hard time connecting with it nonetheless. I didn‘t love the hypocrisy of Clara, even after she acknowledged such hypocrisy. I also had a hard time believing banned books would suddenly be all the rage with teenagers, at least without more build up. That being said, there is a topic, and a message, worth stating that isn‘t often addressed, especially in books about books.

Yesterday‘s small #libraryhaul 📚I wasn‘t going to check anything out & then the librarian was putting a stack of brand new YA titles out & I ended up with three of them. 🤷‍♀️I am most excited for the tagged book although the other two horror/fantasy titles look intriguing too. #cantresistnewlibrarybooks 🤗
And I grabbed a Hawaii International Film Festival catalogue as I‘ve missed the last couple of years & might try to see a couple 🎬

Hello my Litsy Fam!

Just wondering if anyone can suggest a few Halloween board books that you feel are fun to read, and worth the money. I want to pick up a few for Halloween gifts, but the little ones are quite young so paper pages wouldn‘t be the best option. I‘m going to out and hunt again tomorrow, so any suggestions would be so helpful! #TeamSlaughter #Halloween

PathfinderNicole My son LOVED these two by Sandra Boynton! Like he‘s 8 but he still enjoys reading them at Halloween time 😂 3mo

wanderinglynn I saw this one at Target that looked cute 3mo
juls29 I just bought Trick or Treat Little Pumpkin. It is a finger puppet board book which is awesome, but I have no idea about the story or quality. I can let you know in a few days when it arrives. Great price though! 3mo
Palimpsest Had this one for my son when he was younger 3mo

Come-read-with-me @Clwojick That‘s not my bat (I love this book) 3mo
overtheedge @Clwojick Clifford's first Halloween and 5 Little Monkeys are cute. Duck and Goose Find A Pumpkin... 3mo
Cosmos_Moon Mommy by Maurice Sendak is really cute with Halloween monsters, but it is a pop-up so can be dangerous with little hands. (edited) 3mo
Linsy @SauerPatch I diddo Pumpkin Pie! And we really love 3mo

Books are a light. A light that melts ignorance and hate. They show new paths to take. Or, for some the depth of seemingly unfixable brokenness. Books illuminate something different for all of us. Books change lives because they‘re matches, starting fires that show the grandness of the world, depths of others, a path for us to see ourselves.

Half way through and I‘m captivated.
The private school setting gives this a new twist, making the reading experience fresh for those who have read Ban This Book and Property of the Rebel Librarian.

I know the point of New Books Day isn‘t to read all of one‘s new books THAT day, but I kind of love Tuesdays for ballet class and then a day and a night by myself to do just that.

Also, I kind of read really fast.

My second book of the day. The summary makes it sound a lot like Ban This Book and Property of the Rebel Librarian, so I‘m going to read with a grain of salt.

Lovesbooks87 I can't wait to hear what you think about this. I saw this today and it sounds really good. 4mo

Can anyone suggest some short, fast paced audiobooks for a road trip with my husband? Available on hoopla would be a plus. He‘s not a reader. He enjoys fantasy and sci-fi, action and superhero type stuff. Thanks!

(I‘m considering rejoining Audible just to get All Systems Red if I can‘t find something on Hoopla or Libby)

Please rescue me from 5 hours of heavy metal... 🙄

IamIamIam I feel you!!! We have a rule about serious heavy metal for more than an hour at a time and never before 11am! 😂 I love Harlan Coben for a lot of action. Also, Dennis Lehane. Shutter Island was great and so was 4mo
IamIamIam I'm a big fan of Carl Hiaasen but I've never listened to any audio. My favorites are Nature Girl and 4mo
IamIamIam OH, I can't believe I forgot this audio! 4mo

AmyG Hahahahaha! I love metal but 5 hours is a bit excessive. All I can think of is Bird Box ...scared the crap out of me. 4mo
Lynnsoprano I would second the Hiassen suggestion, because you get some dark humor with it. 4mo
Soubhiville @IamIamIam @AmyG @Lynnsoprano thanks for the suggestions, I‘ll see what my library has and if any of these appeal to him. 🙂 4mo
IamIamIam Does he like Star Wars too? I really liked this one and it's appealing even to someone like me, who has moderate knowledge of serious Star Wars. 4mo

I‘ve been reading This Is How You Lose The Time War and a reference made me have a story craving 🤷🏽‍♀️. I want to read a book about knights, dragons, and wizards/magic or knights, dragons, and the supernatural. I thought if anyone could help me find something good with these elements it would be my wonderful Litsy friends. I‘ll even take a good King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table suggestion. 🙂 thanks!

Sweetkokoro The Chronicles of King Rolen‘s Kin is a good classic fantasy style book I absolutely love. It has princes, war, betrayal, magic, magical creatures, (And Byren is my love haha). I feel it falls Into this type of fantasy your looking for. The whole series is a favorite of mine. 6mo
Sweetkokoro There is also The Pendragon Cycle by Stephen R Lawhead, it‘s a retelling of the tale of King Arthur, it‘s kind of long and I‘m still working my way through it but it‘s good so far to my liking and I love King Arthur haha. (edited) 6mo
TheBookAddict @Sweetkokoro 😆 awesome! Thank you so much, I‘ll be looking into them. 🙂👍🏽 6mo
BethM The Pendragon Cycle is sooo good! Also for King Arthur try SusAn Cooper‘s Dark is Rising series 6mo
TheBookAddict @BethM thanks for the suggestion, I‘ll be checking it out soon. 🙂👍🏽 6mo

Devoured this on the plane and train into JFK and Brooklyn while knitting away on the perfect travel project. #knittinglittens

Great story and characters. I love that the author is careful to explore the layers of this issue and the various motives (both well-intentioned and not) that drive people to challenge and ban books. #freedomtoread

My favourite part of vacation prep -- loading up my e-reader with Edelweiss ARCs. I know I won't get to all of these (I'm only gone ten days), but I look forward to some great reading on my flight and subway rides.

Many thanks to HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and other publishers who pre-approved me for so many great titles.
