The last few days have included plenty of farm work. I haven‘t gotten much reading done, but I‘ve fit in a few hours of listening to Oscar & Lucinda while working and taking a walk with Luthien. I‘m a good ways into this story now, although they haven‘t met yet, and I‘m still not quite sure what I think.

I can really act on a whim when it come to audiobooks sometimes. I‘ve never had more than a passing interest in Paris Hilton, but I figured I‘d give this a listen. she‘s obviously lived a privileged life, but she‘s been through ROUGH stuff too that gets her emotional as she narrates. I had no idea about any of it. she shares plenty of fun stories too, like how the “Holy Trinity” photo came to be. (iykyk. 😉) I enjoyed this a lot!

I don‘t really have anything new to say about this short read (just under 2 hours on audio) that shares the author‘s perspective on her home island of Antigua, but it is well worth the time. It will most likely make you think more consciously if you travel as a tourist to the Caribbean.

I decided to give this historical fiction set in #Paraguay a listen although it didn‘t have great reviews. Ella is living in France when she becomes involved with Francisco and goes to Paraguay as his mistress. They stay together as he becomes dictator and embroils his country in a devastating war. I never became invested in the characters or events, although I thought there was great potential for a fascinating story.

Texreader I‘m impressed you found this book so few are out there set in Paraguay. Too bad it wasn‘t quite up to par 2w

⭐️⭐️⭐️
Samantha Irby is hilarious.
And although there were a few essays that weren't exactly my cuppa (porn preferences, toilet tales, and gastrointestinal anecdotes), there was plenty of her signature self-deprecating humor and spot-on observations to carry this collection through. I especially loved "The Last Normal Day," "How to Look Cool in Front of Teens?", and "Please Invite Me to Your Party."

#audiobook listening while driving across country has really helped my #20in4 stats. Plus it helped keep my mind off the fact that my son is now SO far away. 😢

Andrew65 A fantastic total 👏👏👏 Sending positive thoughts. 2w

A young woman backpacking through Bolivia decides to spend a month volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary in the jungle. Falling in love with the animals there changes her life. The descriptions of the personalities of the animals and daily life in the jungle were fantastic.

Daisey @Texreader Scrolling though posts for books set in South America, I think this would be a good companion read for 2w
Texreader @Daisey I was thinking the same thing as I was reading your review. I wonder if they volunteered in the same place 2w
Daisey @Texreader This one is about Ambue Ari, but I‘m guessing if not the same one than possibly one of the others run by the same organization, Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi. 1w

This was an interesting gothic read, but it‘s not one of my favorites. I didn‘t feel as strong of a sense of ominous suspense through much of the middle of the book as I expected, and when I did towards the end, it wrapped up fairly quickly. I also wanted a bit more explanation of connections between characters.
