Ready to dig into some nonfiction before I get into some genre stuff again.

LauraJ Wondering if this is worth picking up since I‘ve already read 1d
Godpants @LauraJ I‘ll let you know what I think. It looks like he only covers 4 cases in this one and goes into his profiling techniques more (if I can trust the description.) 19h

I loved the beginning of this one. The way he writes about mental illness felt nuanced in a way that is rare in thrillers. There‘s maybe a few too many twists at the end, but overall I liked it a lot.

This book! First, it‘s so fucking weird. But the payoff at the end is so good and it wraps up so well while still not feeling forced. It‘s a fever dream and I really enjoyed it and am glad I took my time with it.

There is nothing new to this one, but it was a solid page turner. Probably between so-so and a pick for me, but if you want a mindless quick read try it out.

So I decided to check out my reviews of the other WW books I‘ve read, and... I don‘t seem to have liked them. Let‘s hope that this is the one that changes my mind! I can‘t remember where the recommendation for this one was from.

Who else is behind on their goodreads goal for the year? Hopefully I fly through this one to get back on track! Need to read 12-15 books this month to get caught up. YIKES!

I think I liked the idea more than I liked the actual book. It‘s a book about a town with a tiny sliver of a missing person involved. Nothing is really resolved, you just follow their lives for a bit. It was okay.

Well. It was okay. I had to look it up to confirm my suspicion that this was written by a man. The female voice just wasn‘t very convincing. (Don‘t get me wrong, many authors successfully write the opposite sex, but they intentionally hid the authors name.) Every once and awhile there would be a sentence or two that just took me out of it. The story is interesting enough, but the writing style is bad.

I found this pretty charming although maybe lacking in material on both sides. Together it‘s a fun read but I wanted more Harper Lee or more Maxwell murder information. Still think it‘s worth checking out.

I really liked this one. The reviews are so mixed, and I think there are definitely intentional obsfucations or omissions for the sake of pushing the plot. If anyone else has read this and wants to talk in a spoiler-y fashion lets do it.

I didn‘t realize when I borrowed this that it was a short story collection. We‘ll see if it keeps me interested.

TheLibrarian How is this? I bought it after realizing short stories aren‘t for me but I‘m hoping it‘s good enough to hold my attention. 1mo
Godpants I haven‘t made it through the first story. 😳 I‘m listening to the audio so it will be harder to skip around. Which is what I usually do with short story collections. The book itself is short so I‘ll probably listen to a bit more next week. I‘ll tag you when I get a bit further. @TheLibrarian (edited) 1mo

This falls between so-so and pick for me. His writing style is verbose to a point where it obfuscates and distracts from the story he is trying to tell (which is genuinely interesting.) I wish my library had loanable copies of his work, so I wasn‘t risking my own $. Have you read anything of his? What do you recommend I try next?

Godpants @LauraJ overall I enjoyed it. I‘ll definitely check out other work of his. 2mo
