Sentimental, but not saccharine. If you've read 84, Charing Cross Road, this builds out from there - some background to how the book came to be, and subsequently how the author's life was shaped by it, and intermittently slipped out of the public eye. Interesting to see an older person deal with the trappings of being KNOWN. Will definitely be reading The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street as well. Blame the '80s for this cover. 🤦🏼♂️
A positive spin...😅
This was a nice, light read. The author tells amusing anecdotes about his career as a rare/antiquarian book seller.
Had a bit of a slump in April but May got me back on track! I‘ve realised when I‘m in a slump it‘s chunksters that get me out of it - something meaty to really get lost in. What gets you back on track?
What are London's best shops for used books?

My ideal bookshop would be quiet. I would organize it in the same way that a library would organize their collections, with more of an emphasis on historical fiction and nonfiction. I would sell new books, along with totes, bookmarks, journals, pens, etc. It would be a two story building with a cafe on the second floor that would sell mainly light breakfast and lunch items, with baked goods and coffees and teas and other drinks. ⤵️
