Super cute book! I'm excited to continue the series!
This is inspired by the infamous cases. It features Audrey Rose who is interested in forensic science rather than what a highborn Victorian young lady should do. She meets Thomas Cresswell and together they investigate the murders. It was really good and very gory and I really liked Audrey Rose.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)
To kick off the spooky season, I reread “Stalking Jack the Ripper” and I happened to enjoy it more compared to my first read. I really enjoyed Audrey Rose‘s and Thomas‘ witty banter, and the plot remained fast-paced and interesting for the entirety of the book. Now to read the rest of the series for the first time!
“Those who deserve respect are given it freely. If one must demand such a thing, he‘ll never truly command it. I am your daughter, not your horse, sir.”
- Audrey Rose Wadsworth
This months OwlCrate box came with a cute tote bag inspired by a book I read recently(ish)!! And it came with a little lantern!! I have no idea why, but every time I see a lantern on display somewhere I have the oddly specific urge to pick it up and use it to navigate a dark and definitely enchanted place like a book character. NOW I CAN! Even if it‘s just my room with the lights off 😅
I liked the story and the characters a lot… until the end, which fell a bit flat. I would have preferred a totally unexpected reason for the ripper‘s actions, or a totally unexpected identity, and I didn‘t feel the final twist gave us that. I liked the narration of the audiobook (yes, I was on an audiobook roll!).
I am a teacher making the most of her time off and I got to indulge in reading a book in one sitting - it‘s been awhile since I‘ve done that! I couldn‘t put this one down, even if the corpse stuff took some getting used to and I guessed the ending. There‘s a sequel involving Dracula and I‘m interested in it purely for the Thomas/Audrey duo.
I smiled. That was a promise I fully intended to keep.

A little late, but my day has been LONG!
1. Stalking Jack the Ripper | Kerri Maniscalco
I haven't read it yet, but it's on my current TBR.
2. I think the most important has been It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. It made me cry, smile, and reminded me how strong I am. To never forget that I'm worth it and I should smile more. 👍 😃
3. We Set the Dark on Fire | Tehlor Kay Mejia 😬
Enjoying my time in Chicago today with some nice indie bookstores. Here‘s the first, After Words. All the pillars in there had written quotes on them and there were special displays for banned and feminist books.
This didn‘t get exciting until about the last 70 pages or so…I was a bit bored. I liked the idea of it, and the attitude of the main character, but this one just a “meh” for me.
Starting this one on my lunch break at work…here we go!
It was good for the most part. It threw me for a loop at the main reveal. So as a mystery it was good. I didn‘t like the MANY times Audrey Rose mentioned she was “white” though. It seemed unnecessary to know she was white-passing. And the men mostly annoyed me. Thomas grew on me after a while though. Though he did irritate me at first. But it was a solid 3 stars for me.
This story was a bit slow. I kept wishing for the MC to be the clever one, but instead it was the male lead Thomas who was noticing clues and details. Audrey Rose‘s main characteristic was that she was female because the reader was constantly reminded by the main character. No real romance in this one, only mild flirting. The forensic science parts were mildly interesting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so so much, Alexus! I am SO excited to read this! I've been wanting to check this series out for so long! 😃💕📚 Thank you! 😁
Thank you so much @BooksAndYarn for the load of candy (you spoiled me) and this book! I have wanted this one for a long time. I am excited to read it! Thanks @MaleficentBookDragon for organizing.
Happy reading everyone
Also my son has run off with the sloth candy!! Must be the holiday season…candy for breakfast #jolabokaflodswap
I don‘t mind the artistic liberty taken with the Jack the Ripper murders, but it just seems to prattle away endlessly and the “tension” between the 2 MCs is inconsistent and not that appealing. I‘ve been trying to read this one since September but it wasn‘t all I‘d hoped.

This was a really interesting story. I love all the true crime stories about the case of Jack the Ripper so was interested to see how this might go. I really enjoyed the mystery of it and of course the identity of the killer. I liked the blend of fact and fiction. It was good the author kept to the main details. The plot was steady and built to the inevitable yet well written climax. I had just about guessed the identity. 4*
This was a fun re-read and I listened on audio this time. Same narrator as Jackaby series. Now I remember it and can move on to the next book in the series. Really a great spooky book with a strong female lead who loves science and uses it to stop Jack the Ripper and save innocent women from being murdered.

🍁 my coworkers are wonderful. 💕
📚 I hate when the editors don‘t catch when the character‘s name is wrong or when the wrong character is speaking. Also just spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors. 🙄

Thomas Cresswell you charming boy ! Love the friendship between him and Audrey Rose. 🌹 Great start to this series ✨
I don't know how I feel about this one... The chemistry between the main characters really wasn't there and I didn't love the sexism or how the author messed with the facts about the real case.
FAVOURITE AUTHOR ALERT!
After cutting off one of my childhood heroes, I've found someone to fill my magical hole in my heart.
KERRI MANISCALCO
I love her gothic, victorian world building
I am going to finish this book but somewhat begrudgingly... Audrey Rose is constantly putting down other girls and that just doesn't sit right with me. She acts like she's better than them. I like that she wants to be both girly and strong but she doesn't need to put down others to do so. And the constant corset slander! Also I'm not seeing too much chemistry between the two leads. Oh well...
Suitable for Falloween 😱 This YA horror mystery is the first of a “historical fantasy” series. The main girl is strong & empowered, but the mystery is pretty obvious very early on and there is a lot of “romantic tension” that tends to get repetitive rather than endearing.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the plot twist I caught on to it but not too early that it ruined the story for me. Audrey Rose is a very entertaining and interesting main character and Thomas very much reminded me of the Sherlock Holmes character. However unlike Sherlock Holmes when the evidence was given I didn‘t feel like they had discovered knowledge without me it felt like I was coming to the conclusion at the same time 5 🌟
I love a fast paced book of adventure and action. This didn‘t have either. Not my genre, goth or murder, and this was not a good one to give it a taste. Not as gruesome as expect. Enjoyed Audrey Rose being so headstrong, with her emotions ruling many thoughts into trouble, in a world that looks down upon girls. The plot is so slow going, felt I had to force myself to read anything. Was hoping for more mystery, but Thomas had it all figured. Not her
This is not my type of genre at all. Death and mystery? Nah girl. So this is me trying something new for the coming year. Although I am interested is stories that have women taking back their power from those that exploit and attack them

Thankfully I had an audiobook handy as we waited at the vet this morning. 🐶
I liked this book BUT as someone who watches A LOT of true crime and a lot fiction crime, I just wish it would have been more. I felt it was a lot more about her life then actually picking apart Jack the Rippers mind. I felt who Jack was was very obvious and what he was doing wasn't as big of a shock as the author thought it would be. I really hyped this book up and was a bit disappointed. I will give 3.7/5 stars and will continue with the series.
I have seen this series all over the place so was excited to read the first book. Maybe my expectations were too high? I thought it was good, but not great. The MC is smart, but immature and foolhardy- she does some really dumb things for as intelligent as she is. I liked Cresswell a lot, the mystery was good. Not sure if I‘ll continue the series.
This was a quick and easy audiobook to get through. The banter between Audrey Rose and Thomas is cute. While the subject of the book, Jack the Ripper and his murders, is heavy, the story flows well and it never feels too gruesome. I recommend this book if you‘re looking for something simple. I‘ve already picked up the second book in the series, Hunting Prince Dracula, just to see where these two end up next!
