Going to start this today. I have a paper copy of the book on my shelf so I can go back and forth if I want. Today's been a bit of a slow day mentally, but last night I read some comics that were great. +1

π§ The sequel to The Shining. Surprisingly good book.
I had reservations.
There‘s a bit about Danny & his mom growing up then there‘s a time jump to adulthood on his own & drunk as a skunk due to β¦ the shining.
And boy it takes off from there with callbacks to the original.
I liked this book.

This book was way better then The Shining by a long shot. I really enjoyed the characters and the story way more. There were some parts that I found slow and drawn out. But I was really interested in this story. 4/5 stars
Oooooh I'm such a scare-dey cat. I'll be watching from behind the cushion. Final season episodes of WD, cured me of my zombie phobia that's for sure. ππ§ββοΈπ§ββοΈπ

Another few gifts. The Shining was my first Stephen King book so book two is totally on my TBR!!
A washi tape holder? Yesss! Already filled π
A box of 15 different pens to try! I‘m such a sucker for stationary items, pens, washi, stickers, paint, etc β¦ Awesome!
I loved this book, I think I liked it more than the first one.
Going to watch the movie now

This was a really great sequel to The Shining, definitely lived up to my expectations. Seeing little Danny grow into a man with his own baggage was raw and real. I loved all the characters, even down to the side characters that take Dan under their wings when he hits rock bottom and is struggling to find the right way up again. The True Knot were evil, but their family-like unit felt realistic and made them more horrific.
My goals for the #20in4Readathon are to finish the tagged book and start Eaters of the Dead. We‘re driving to visit family this weekend, so hopefully I can get in plenty of reading time on the road. Not sure how much I can squeeze in while there. π
AUDIO REREAD
I love the audio even more than the print version. Will Patton does an incredible job with it. On this reread, I really wish King had chosen a different nickname for Barry of the True Knot. It wasn't necessary to use that particular word, and I don't think it added anything to the story.

I really enjoyed seeing Doctor Sleep, on Netflix! I might have a rewatch of The Shining again this year. -- With a TV episode of Halloween Wars, my favourite pick was the Wendigo cake. ππ¦
Today‘s #LittensDressedinBlood prompt:
βEnter Sandmanβ
This was the first that came to mind.
These aren't my absolute favorite characters, they're are so manyπ€
Danny and Abra from Dr Sleep would for sure be trying to get the good ghosts to cross over and then destroy the bad ones π€ And when that was all over they'd roast some smores and talk about her homework and great books!

This book started out SO slow, I would literally fall asleep after 5 pages.I‘ve been reading it for MONTHS! Something kept me hooked, however...and it finally picked up and then I went running with it. I really enjoyed this read. Dare I say I liked it more than its predecessor? Yes, I think so.
Starting doctor sleep anyone else read this and enjoy it. Is it worth my time
#unpopularopinion I read this almost 2 years ago, before the release of the Mike Flanagan movie. I thought it was fine, looking at my ranking of the nearly 30 King books that I have read I see that it is near the bottom right above Langoliers, if that says anything. Ditto with the movie. I liked the movie, not as much as The Shining although I know a lot of people actually pref Dr Sleep. #closeup #curiouscovers @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
I have to say that I had incredible high expectations for this book. Unfortunately, I dismissed King‘s form of writing when developing these expectations. This is a wonderful sequel to The Shining, an insight into Dan‘s development and the aftermath of the Overlook Hotel. I found that the story moved too slow in sections, as it meandered through the important backstory.

Next up Stephen King‘s Doctor Sleep; the sequel to The Shining! Doctor Sleep follows Danny, as an adult, who meets Abra, a powerful 12 year old. Determined to protect Abra, and himself, from the murderous tribe, True Knot, Danny finds himself facing old demons.

Good for what it is. If you enjoy fantasy, you‘ll like this.
I recently reread The Shining. It will always be one of my favorites of his books. How did I not know there was a sequel? I am so disappointed in myself. I just started it last night. I enjoyed the first few chapters, but it‘s too soon to tell which direction it will go.
I am starting this reread of Doctor Sleep this sleepy Sunday. I feel that you either love this book or you don‘t. It‘s definitely not what I expected of grown up Danny Torrance but I enjoy this story nonetheless.
Reread.
Nice to revisit Danny and Abra.
Just as good the second time round
King wrote this to answer the question what happened to that little boy? And to see what Torrance senior could have been with the help of the AA. Both these concepts are explored through the character of adult Danny.
We also get new monsters of the Vampire (kinda) variety in the humanoid form of the True Knot. They definitely gave me Dark Tower vibes as did the Ghostie people.
Film is great and IMO makes more sense of the story than the book.
1. Dr Sleep
2. The way in which King tells and twists the story. To this day I think of this book everytime I iron something with steam! And yes, it's so stupid! LOL π
3. I'm not sure about this one or how to answer. I'll take a look at some other answers
4. I'm not sure if it's my favorite, most memorable lately. Those things from A Quiet Place.
5. Not really. I do like Funkos, bookmarks and coats (lol).
6. Will do π€

My happy place ππ©π₯° I know I‘m in good company here. Tagged book is my current read.
The 1st time in years I don't have to work on Halloween. My plans tonight consist of curling up under a blanket with a hot beverage, hopefully finishing this book, and maybe watching a scary movie or two. Happy Halloween everyone!! π
As sequels go, it‘s pretty good. I mean we‘ve all wondered what happened to little Danny Torrence when he grew up, right? And this is a realistic look at what his life would likely have been like. And I liked Abra but she didn‘t feel like a real teen to me. I also quite liked Rose the Hat and the True Knot. They made for an interesting story. Parts of the book fell a little flat for me, the pacing felt a bit off, and in other parts I wanted more.
Audiobooking while I work on my nails. Getting Halloween ready.
I had mixed feelings about this sequel to the shining. I thought Danny was very well done, and the creepy bits were very creepy, but it had an awful lot of characters who I kept struggling to follow and I missed the smaller scale, weirder, claustrophobic vibe of the shining.

Hey I get that reference!! I find it kind of funny that he mentions his son's character in his own book. A family that writes together....
This is the sequel to King‘s classic The Shining. I was dubious, but the story works for me. #Scarathlon2020 #TeamSlaughter #BookspinBingo #AuthorAMonth2020

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals.
