pickBook #5 for #14Books14Weeks2021 is complete. Still behind and not likely to finish on time but, I will finish! This book was donated to one of my little free libraries and when5 I saw the cover I knew I had to read it! One book club, 5 women. 5 different paths in life, 5 very different, life changing situations! And isn't that life? Life=changes. And, how we handle those changes. These 5 women handle these changes(cont in comments)
1. Yes! Love them.
2. Yes - we‘ve been together for about 15 years. We meet in person but not as frequently as we did prior to Covid.

I guess I need to find a new book club since it seems all the ones I was following have gone defunked. Any suggestions?
so-soThe story is about five different women who come together out of a love for reading and for one another. Each one faces a crisis for which they are unprepared. Each woman's story is interesting and the interactions between the characters is delightful. The Book Club it is not as good as her other books, readable, but not the authors best.
Had our annual holiday get together with book club this evening... I love these ladies so much!!

When books get to rate humans! 😂
so-soI like books about books & women's friendships & I generally like Mary Alice Monroe, so conditions were ripe for me to like this book. But no. The book club frame was not well used -- often I'd forget they were in a book club. Some of the women are deliberately obtuse, others are just not nice, and others are boring. Only 3 of the 5 women are essential to the story. At least I didn't loathe the book like the Frank & Hilderbrand ones.
Perhaps I should give up my favorite beach read/chick lit authors for awhile. Mary Alice Monroe has been a go-to author for me in this genre, but I find I'm irritated by many characters in this book and I'm only a few chapters in. Who gets mad at a friend for grieving the loss of their husband when it's only been 6 months? Who names their daughter Bronte and their son Finney? Someone with literary pretensions, that's who.

I started reading Game of Thrones and I later discovered that here on Litsy there was a Game of Thrones read along that I am now joining in! I decided to try to make a list of book clubs and read alongs that are happening in August!
