This novel was STUNNING. This book made me feel seen as someone with OCD, autism, depression, and gender identity issues. I feel compassion and sisterhood with Ada. Reading this felt like a transformative experience and a spiritual one as well. Easily five stars.

A slow burn tale of modern running parallel to tradition. A truly heartbreaking rendition of poverty, pain, and country life. While I can‘t give this five stars as it wasn‘t compelling to keep picking up, it does get four stars from me for its importance in portraying characters like the ones I grew up around. Survival is key, and Julius and Jeanie show you how.

Hi y‘all! These are my preliminary picks for #lmpbc #GroupS

What do we think?

magyklyXdelish I‘ve already read the water cure but it was good and wouldn‘t mind a re read. Everything else sounds really good. The troop would probably be my pick but I‘ve heard it‘s really gross if that bothers anyone else haha 7mo
Hazel2019 These all look great! I‘d love to read the water cure! The Haunted would be my second choice. But I‘ll be happy with whatever‘s chosen since I haven‘t read any of these ☺️ 7mo
shadowspeak17 The Haunted and The Troop are my top two, but The Familiar Dark also sounds good. I‘ve already read The Water Cure, so that‘s the only one I don‘t really want to read. 7mo

This novel is one of the deepest human emotions, but sadly, I felt that Sweeney never got there completely. It seemed that the characters were not unique enough, not memorable enough. For the first half of the novel, I couldn‘t keep who was who straight. Not a good sign. This book was fine, but will fade into the background.

CocoReads I love the cover if this but I read her first book and hated it. I‘m all for second chances, but if I decide to give her another try, I‘ll definitely get it from the library. 7mo

Reportage style text that follows 27 murder houses, giving us the details of the murder, killer(s) and victim(s), as well as the selling history of the home. This is a super well researched, facts only text that covers the super famous cases (Lizzie Borden, JonBenet Ramsey) but also more obscure ones. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A complicated little fever dream that follows McGlue as he‘s arrested for the murder of his best friend in 1851. McGlue is a drunk and can‘t remember the night everyone is so concerned with. A really well written - gory at times - page turner that kept me enthralled. I didn‘t guess the ending, but I was left feeling a bit unsatisfied by it. I spent a lot of time with these characters for the reveal and ending to be so rushed. There were so many beautiful instances of Flynn‘s writing and language in this prose. I‘ll definitely be picking up more.

While this is a compelling, interesting, page-turning thriller, I cannot give this novel more than 3 stars in good conscious. As a practicer of ethical non-monogamy, villanizing a polyamorous relationship in the way that Fisher does is unacceptable to me.
