Testaments | Margaret Atwood

I thought I might have seriously injured my foot, but, thankfully, there‘s no fracture. I am kind of annoyed the doctor said I should ice it and rest. You mean I have to stay in, cozy up, and read the new Margaret Atwood all weekend? Such a bummer.....

I‘m not a fan of fireworks and loud noises, so this is how I do 4th of July....curled up in my closet with earplugs and a great book 😂 Thinking this might be a wonderful spot for a reading nook 🤔 Happy 4th of July to all those celebrating and happy reading to everyone else!!

Rachel.Rencher I hate them, too! Mostly because I hate seeing my dog panic. I've been blasting classical music while my husband and I read, and it's working surprisingly well. 2mo
IamIamIam Once as a kid, my friend took a jumping jack in the butt and my grandmother told us we couldn't go outside again. It was a blessing in disguise because a Twilight Zone marathon was on and I became a lifelong fan!!! Hope you had a relaxing 4th and luckily it's only once a year! 2mo
Ashley_Nicoletto I also hate the 4th of July. When I was a kid my cousin threw a fire cracker at my face. Luckily, it just burned the side of my neck/my ear, but man I was terrified for life. We don‘t leave the house and I spend most of it with music on and a book. I hope you‘re doing ok in your reading nook. 2mo

Bookworm83 @Rachel.Rencher Your poor pup! I feel so bad for dogs on this holiday. Glad you are cozied up, too! 2mo
Bookworm83 @IamIamIam That is a blessing in disguise! I love the Twilight Zone, too ❤️ 2mo
Bookworm83 @Ashley_Nicoletto Oh my gosh... that is traumatizing for sure 😢 I hope you are hanging in there and cozied up tonight ❤️ 2mo
Megabooks I‘m sorry! I hate them, too, but not as much as you. 💗 2mo
LittlePixels I just related this to my daughter, to show her someone else who shares her hatred of loud noises. Thank you for helping her feel a little less alone. 💕 That does look like a great place for a reading nook! 2mo
riversong153 Omg I wish I could‘ve hidden! I hate fireworks. I know I‘m in the minority there but I had a bad experience as a kid and now I cannot stand them! 2mo
Bookworm83 @Megabooks 😘😘 @LittlePixels Aww!! Poor girl...glad I was able to help in some small way ❤️ 2mo
Bookworm83 @riversong153 I totally get it!! So glad this holiday is over 😬 2mo
dragondrool First off, and foremost, I love you and my heart is with you on this one. But you already knew that.

Second, I wish you were here, because we could binge our way through the entire run of the original Twilight Zone. I have it on DVD.

That would be grand, indeed!
2mo
dragondrool Oh, yeah. Thirdly, I rather liked Bel Canto. Did you see there's going to be a movie?
2mo
Bookworm83 @dragondrool I love you, too 😘 I would enjoy nothing more than to have a Twilight Zone marathon with you, book buddy!! I am really enjoying Bel Canto. Such a beautifully written book. Will have to check out the movie! 2mo

I haven‘t wanted to simultaneously praise a book and throw it out the window in a long time 😂 I couldn‘t put it down and think it‘s the most well written psychological thriller I‘ve read in a loooonnng time.....right up until the last sentence 😡 *cue book being thrown out window * I‘m giving it a pick because it stirred up so many strong emotions and pulled me out of a reading slump 👍🏻 If you‘ve read it PLEASE tell me thoughts on the ending!

lynneamch Argh! I read the last bit four times. Still loved the book, but sure would like to talk with J. T. about that ending. What bugs me the most is the timing. Did she really find Josie so quickly after Holly brought the news that Ivy wasn't hers? She says social media has destroyed anonimity, but, come on! I keep feeling like I must have missed something. 9mo
Bookworm83 @lynneamch Right?!?! I feel the same! Have you read her most recent book? I‘m going to give her another try 🤞🏻 9mo

Okay literary friends and #teachersoflitsy....I‘m looking for a short story that uses flashback that would be appropriate for a middle school audience. dragondrool A google search suggested Raymond's Run, The Monkey's Paw, and The Sound of Thunder. 11mo
ElishaLovesBooks Raymond‘s Run is a great story! Gary Soto is also good- he has a story called Seventh Grade but I don‘t remember if it has flashbacks. The Lottery is also great and The Ransom of Red Chief (but that‘s really better for teaching irony). I‘ll keep thinking! 11mo
ElishaLovesBooks Maybe All Summer in a Day? Ray Bradbury has so many good ones! 11mo
Tamra Oh my, such a wonderful masterpiece of a story. I recall reading it right about that age. Somewhere 7th - 9th. These days, I don‘t think it‘s too dark. 11mo

I will read anything Clare Mackintosh writes! I finished this last night and woke up thinking about it. She writes the most unexpected plot twists and I‘ve yet to predict one. Hers are the kind of books you go back and reread to figure out just how she did it. Having said that, this one wasn‘t her best, but still a solid psychological thriller. If you read the book please help me out...I have some spoiler-y questions below 👇🏻 #summerreading2018

Bookworm83 I‘m so confused on the ending?? The book made it pretty clear that her mother jumped, but what Anna relaxers that she didn‘t (???) say what??? 1y
MelissaSue81 It‘s been a few months since I read it, but The ending was another note that said “suicide, think again.” Right? I got the idea that (forget the goddaughters name) pushed her. And that Anna had already known it. I could be wrong? 1y
Bookworm83 @MelissaSue81 Yes, that‘s the correct ending. I went back and read the scene where the mom died and the goddaughter (Laura) was across the room pointing a gun, so she couldn‘t have pushed her. As the police burst in though, there was a loud sound, so I‘m now thinking that Laura must have shot the mother and she fell off the balcony. Wouldn‘t an autopsy have shown that though? Grrr....this ending is killing me! Thanks so much for your help! 1y

Bookworm83 @Peddler410 It‘s my favorite to teach because it‘s a challenging read, but it has kind of become infamous in our school 😂 1y

What do you do when your school gets a new set of books? Do you throw out the old copies? HECK NO!!!! You take them home and repurpose them into special gifts for your students! ❤️❤️ I can‘t wait to show you the finished products!

LiteraryinLititz Wow! Can‘t wait to see! As a totally unartsy person, I really respect people who are. 1y
dragondrool Patiently waiting. 1y
Bookworm83 @LiteraryinLititz I wish I could say I‘m super artsy, but this is a pretty easy craft that even I can pull off 🤣 I‘ll tag you when I post the final product! (edited) 1y
Bookworm83 @dragondrool It will take me some time, but I‘ll tag you when I post the final product! 1y

Rabbit Cake | Annie Hartnett
Pickpick

Loved this book! If you like Flavia de Luce, you will adore the young narrator of this book, Elvis, who is dealing with the loss of her mother.

Juli @Bookworm83 thanks for the excellent description. I have wanted to pick it up several times, but now I definitely will read it! 1y
Bookworm83 @Juli Oh good! I really knew nothing about it going in, but it was lovely. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! 1y
Laura317 @Bookworm83 That it reminds you of Flavia made me stack it. 1y
Bookworm83 @Laura317 I‘m so glad...I hope you enjoy it! 1y
