This is my current progress with October goals. This is mainly to keep me on track. The tagged book was so well written, but simply lost my interest about 300 pages in. It was a Man Booker longlist last year. #booker2018

I adored this audiobook, even though it was a hard subject at times to which to listen. I love Alan Cumming and he wrote a beautiful book. I suggest the audiobook, as it‘s read by Alan in his beautiful Scottish accent.

While reading this book, it fell into the most beautiful pool in Turks and Caicos. I wasn‘t certain at that point I even liked this book, as it seemed to ramble. I‘m glad I rescued it and finished it post drying. I do love her writing and these characters will live within me for a long time. Choices. And, timing is everything. 5🌟

I‘m way behind on posting October goals. These are what is on my bedside table. I‘ve actually finished two already (😂) and have several in the works. Im likely not to read half of these, but I really need to make a concerted effort to pare some stacks down. #october2019

I finished this one last night. I think I‘ve read enough now to realize her writing is good, her stories twisty, but predictable. This wasn‘t her best. And I‘m supposed to go on a cruise Saturday! #BadTiming 😂😂😂

Book_Fairy_Mary I think they make great beach reads for that very same reason. They aren't overly complicated, so you can put them down and not risk confusion, yet they're twisty and turny enough to keep you interested. 3d

I‘ve been working on this chunkster for a few weeks. It traveled to Turks and Caicos and was dropped in the pool. It‘s finally dry, so tomorrow I hope to finish it. Her writing is so good, and she‘s likely misunderstood by many. The characters in this book...brilliantly written.

Reagan-reads I‘ve been a fan of her writing for a while. We Need to Talk About Kevin is outstanding. 6d
Amiable I loved this book 6d
MrsMalaprop As far as Lionel Shriver goes, for me this was just an ok read. We Need to Talk About Kevin remains one of my all time favourite books @Reagan-reads 👍. 6d

Such a great book about rape and how it continues to be investigated and handled. If I ran the world, every police officer would read this prior to getting their first paycheck. The great cops wouldn‘t mind and the less woke might learn something. Loved it. 5🌟

I‘m currently reading this one. This book explains so much about the radical right, which is documented on Jim Crow laws. The author is a historian who has researched this so well, and has presented it in an easily read book. As a political wonk myself, I‘m really enjoying it. I do have to put it down periodically so not to throw it it in anger. Not yet finished, I still am recommending it.

lele1432 Has been on my TBR since it came out. I haven't been in the right headspace to try it yet, sadly. 7d

A lovely book chronicling the Persian coup in 1953 and a love story or two within it. Lots of references to Persian cuisine. I really enjoyed the audiobook and learned more about the CIAs involvement with the Shah and of course, oil.

3.5 stars. The book was inconsistently entertaining, and the biggest negative was the narrator, Lavar Burton. I know, right? The ups and downs of the narrator might work on other books, it was simply annoying to me. And I adore Mr. Rogers. And Lavar Burton. Read the real book. Skip the audiobook.

I kept waiting but this simply didn‘t cut it for me. If your into stream of consciousness audiobooks, you‘ll love it. I can even imagine the print book. That must be something. 🙄

Scochrane26 I found the print book at library just so I could look at the pics. It really is written the way it sounds. I liked that style on audio but probably wouldn‘t in print. 3w
8little_paws I believe I read they really did "write" this as a series of oral conversations that they recorded. I thought it was cute but I tried one of his memoirs and Just. Could. Not. With it. 3w

Okay, my book club got shushed in the library today. Do you librarians still do this or is it just this librarian? We weren‘t actually that loud, just a lively discussion. #shhhh My Baltimore County Library was always a vibrant, active space for families.

Soubhiville My library has private meeting rooms for bookclubs, and kids have their own floor, so it stays fairly quiet in the adult spaces. 4w
emz711 Omg I've never heard this, love!💖💖 4w
Librarybelle I can‘t remember the last time I actually shushed someone at the library. Though, I have been shushed by patrons before... 4w

Susanita I tried to telework at the library before we got home wireless, and it was so loud I couldn‘t concentrate! 4w
melissajayne I got shhh when talking on my cellphone. 4w
JacqMac My library is always so loud. So loud. I don‘t visit it very often. 4w
KathyWheeler It depends. We provide quiet study spaces, so if people are loud in those areas, we will tell people they need to be quiet. My particular pet peeve is people having long personal conversations on their cellphones; I don‘t want to be privy to that, so I will ask people to take those conversations elsewhere. Also if people studying tell us the noise is bothering them, we will ask people to be quiet. 4w
Wife I want a quiet library please. Sometimes the library employees at the checkout counter are ridiculously loud when talking and laughing with each other. 😠🤫🤫🤫 4w
kezzlou85 My local library is both. The upstairs is quiet with computers and adult books. The downstairs is noisy with the kids books and groups there. They do storytelling, music classes, Lego classes and all sorts. It's a really good library as offers so much. 4w
LibrarianRyan I hate a quiet library. There are special rooms for that. A quite library feels like a dead library. I should know I work at one. 4w
eri.reads My local library is kinda loud at times and our librarians don't shush ppl. I don't mind unless it's someone on their cell phone. Pls step outside for personal calls .... 4w
Samplergal Thanks for everyone‘s responses. This is a small library without all the “quiet rooms” and meeting spaces. Our larger county library system is very different, accommodating groups such as yoga and Zumba in those rooms. I guess I was just totally surprised because this library is always trying to increase their patronage. I don‘t think we were out of line and feel this librarian is just angry. (edited) 4w
Samplergal @LibrarianRyan agreed! It brings back memories of my elementary school librarian. You could have recorded music tracks in there, and was horribly unwelcoming. 4w
LibrarianRyan @Samplergal I hate librarians like that, but I know quite a few. And sushing people is one of the best ways of making sure they do not come back. Here I just have to remind people to watch what they talk about. We have so much marble, that conversations on two carry all the way up to five. Even if they are whispered. 4w
