The illustrations in this book were so beautiful and I think they even helped the words speak louder. Everything about this book is so powerful.

I love this book because it teaches the audience about real life. Not only does it talk about culture but about water. I think it is so important to teach kids about culture especially the indigenous people because we don't often know much about their lives.

The illustrations within this book are very powerful! They depict, unity, courage, culture, emotions, bravery, and strength. They alone send a very strong message to the readers and pair very well with the written words.

The young girl decides to take a stand alongside her people and work together in order to protect their water sources along with the safety of all living things around them in the interconnected world in which they live.

I love the illustrations in the book. The vibrant colors the illustrator uses when creating the ocean water. The combinations of blues and purples used when illustrating the earth is incredible.

Good Native American representation either way.

The illustrations in this book a gorgeous. They look like water colors, and really encapsulate the importance of water throughout. I like at the end of the book that they give definitions for words, and the extra bit about water protectors.

I have never read this book before. In my opinion, I thought this book was alright; I really enjoyed the message of the characters saving and protesting for their love of water. The message that I got from this book is to be brave and to always stand up for what you believe in.

“The river‘s rhythm runs through my veins. Runs through my people‘s veins.”

This story is well written as it is, but the illustrations take it to a completely different level. The blues and greens make you feel as if you are one with the water just as the characters in the story.

This Caldecott Awarding winning book tells the story of a young protector who defends the earth from a black snake who threatens to destroy the planet and poison the water. Just like water, this story flows from beginning to end and keeps the reader intrigued. I found this book to be excellently written and can see how others would connect, but I personally struggled to connect.

This photo shares a glimpse of the snake that is taking over the land. What a great metaphor for what is really happening.

The illustrations are vibrant and change as the mood changes throughout the story. I really think this book is a great way to ease children into the idea of oil drilling and how it affects everyone!

This book would be great to use to educate children on how important water is and how we should do everything we can to help protect it and keep it clean not only for us as humans, but for every other living thing on our planet.

Caldecott Medal published in 2020. I love the way that this book teaches readers how sacred water is to everything living on this earth, how it really is needed everywhere, and how we as humans should all fight together to protect it. I also love how the story and illustrations portray the Ojibwe culture and beliefs.

This book has beautiful illustrations. The words are powerful and inspiring. Although, it may be a bit difficult for students to grasp the underlying meaning / issue the book describes. I love the pledge at the back of the book that allows readers to support the book by taking care of nature and what we believe in!
