Wow. I mean, holy crap. This was so bizarre and such a strange and frightening dystopia that at times I was really turned off by it. Those letters at the end kinda made it for me though.

Got to listen to this for MAYBE the first 3rd of my #audiorun but then my running/biking buddy requested “Africa Weezer” and we only listened to more Weezer from then on. 😁
Got stuck in construction traffic later on a drive that allowed me to finish this. Eskens does a great job of building suspense. And I love my home state of MN as the backdrop for the Joe Talbert books.

I would have liked this more had it been either:
🧞‍♀️More fantastical or more filled with folklore/magic
OR
🌊 All realistic explanations for story events.
I enjoyed it overall, but I feel as if the amount of magic/fantasy suited the author‘s explanation of the plot, and that‘s it. I‘m not explaining this well enough...
real, real, real, real, real, real, and here‘s the NOT real part to explain it all! 🤨
Still a pick! (If you got this far 😉.)

Loved, loved, loved this tangled web of families, emotions, and tragic circumstances. Even more so appreciated the strength and weaknesses of each character and how tied I felt to them.
After not loving Little Fires Everywhere (description of this felt so similar) I didn‘t get this as my #botm fearing the same lukewarm feelings toward it - but I was wrong!

Wish I were more into this one. Just not the right time of year I guess. Or maybe not peppy enough for an #audiorunning book. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My co-worker was shocked at how fast I get through audiobooks. I told her I HAVE to listen at 1.25, cause once you go faster you never go back. Made me curious though, anybody actually do 1.5 consistently? That to me seems crazy fast!
Loving this story BTW. 😍
