Cathythoughts @Cinfhen Bookclub was brilliant... we had read & talked about Thirteen ... all agreed it was a real page turner, albeit full of cliches etc. even the more squeamish women said you wouldn‘t take much notice or the violence ... page turner!! I‘d say you‘d like it Cindy 👍🏻♥️ 5y

The story is about five different women who come together out of a love for reading and for one another. Each one faces a crisis for which they are unprepared. Each woman's story is interesting and the interactions between the characters is delightful. The Book Club it is not as good as her other books, readable, but not the authors best.

L_auren @Cinfhen @emilyhaldi I am HUGE fan of JSF but was lukewarm on Here I Am. Thought it was pretty messy with abandoned plot lines and some trite ones with the marriage. 6y

Cinfhen Most of our bookclub felt this was an unraveling of his real life marriage @L_auren they weren‘t “taking” his “side” ~ I really liked some of his secondary characters, especially his Israeli macho cousin & his politically incorrect father...oh, and his kids were hysterical 6y

L_auren @Cinfhen I can agree with some of the above! I also thought it seemed like it wouldn‘t be as accessible to a non-Jewish reader. He had a lot of deep cut references. Still love him and will read all he publishes!!! 6y

so-so

I like books about books & women's friendships & I generally like Mary Alice Monroe, so conditions were ripe for me to like this book. But no. The book club frame was not well used -- often I'd forget they were in a book club. Some of the women are deliberately obtuse, others are just not nice, and others are boring. Only 3 of the 5 women are essential to the story. At least I didn't loathe the book like the Frank & Hilderbrand ones.

Perhaps I should give up my favorite beach read/chick lit authors for awhile. Mary Alice Monroe has been a go-to author for me in this genre, but I find I'm irritated by many characters in this book and I'm only a few chapters in. Who gets mad at a friend for grieving the loss of their husband when it's only been 6 months? Who names their daughter Bronte and their son Finney? Someone with literary pretensions, that's who.

I started reading Game of Thrones and I later discovered that here on Litsy there was a Game of Thrones read along that I am now joining in! I decided to try to make a list of book clubs and read alongs that are happening in August!

I've tagged the organizers so if you are interested you can head to their pages and check out the details!

Reecaspieces I am going to pass on this... I would love to but I can't do 3-4 books a month. I stay behind now as it is. Oh well...maybe during retirement! 7y
