My Reading Challenge
My Reading Challenge: Fun Notebook Tracker for Children (8.5"x11" UK English A4) | Chulabula Designs
32 posts | 1 to read
Every year, schools and libraries in the UK (and around the world) encourage children to take part in a reading challenge during their summer holidays. Whether your children are taking part in this challenge or you simply want to encourage them to read more, the "My Reading Challenge" notebook has been designed as a great resource to help children stay excited about their challenge, log and track the books they've read, and show they have understood and thought about what they are reading. This reading-themed journal is a fun activity book where they can write or draw their feelings about each book to share later with their teachers or challenge organisers and their family. The book is perfect for Key Stage 2 (KS2) children but can be used for all primary school children (ages 4-11) with parental help. Questions are generic so they can apply to fiction and non-fiction books, and ample white space means that younger children can draw - rather than write - their answers if they prefer. space for 10 books (challenges often recommend 6 books but extra space has been given for children who want to move beyond that) book log at the beginning of the notebook for children to list the books they have read, in brief book log at the end of the notebook to list books your children want to read, to get them excited about continuing to read beyond the challenge fun, full-colour illustrations with a reading theme - "Look Inside" for design and book questions 8.5"x 11" (approx. A4) workbook with a bright glossy paperback cover to appeal to younger children rating system based on 5 stars This is the UK version of the reading challenge workbook and uses British English spelling - such as "favourite" not "favorite". US English version COMING SOON. Also available in other designs. Please note: paper stock is good quality 100 GSM but we recommend drawings are done in coloured pencils or crayons to avoid bleed.

Hello lovely Littens.
Happy new year to everyone.
So this was my reading journey 2019, I am curious about this year and my reading journey 2020.
I told myself, I won't participate at any challenges this year. I want to read, what I want and when I want to. 😉
No more stress this year.

Suet624 Yes, challenges make me anxious. 😂😂 2w
Buechersuechtling @Sarah83 (1/2) I completely understand your refusal to take part in any challenges this year. You did quite a lot in 2019, didn‘t you❓🤔 2w
Buechersuechtling @sarah83 (2/2) I sometimes catch myself in thinking that it surely might be beneficial for my personality to participate in challenges and thereby not be wearing blinkers – but then again I know that reading shall remain my pastime and that I don‘t need any pressure whatsoever during my leisure time – because, yeah, I sadly tend to pressurise myself. 🙄 2w
Avanders Happy new year! 🎆 2w
Sarah83 @Buechersuechtling yes I did several and I didn't manage to fulfill all of them. That's why I am struggling. 2w

My favorite part of January 1st is picking my goal. So much reading potential 😄. #goodreadschallenge #goodreads

I surpassed my goal of 200 books in September, but I couldn‘t quite make my stretch goal of 300. But that‘s going to be this year‘s Goodreads challenge goal! #readingchallenge #goodreadschallenge #goodreadsgoal

2019 GR goal + 36 hours for #24B42020! And These are some of my 5⭐️ reads from this year.

2019 started off sitting at home because of the government furlough & in a terrible reading slump. I read 1 book in January (& that was one I finished on Jan. 1) and then didn‘t read again until almost March. This year is definitely ending on a high note. Here‘s to an even more amazing 2020!

Happy New Year! 🥳❤️🎉💙🎊

I managed to meet my goal which feels amazing even if I did read way more graphics novels this year.

I kept it at a fairly good number without over stressing and just enjoying a lot of the reads along the way! 📚

On to 2020....🍾🥂🎉

I really don‘t know how I‘ve done this, but here I am! I started with a target of 50, then 100, then 150, which became 175. Before this, I think I‘d probably read 175 books over the course of the past ten years! Three more days to beat this target even further 👍👊👏🤘💪🏼🤩🥳😁

I did it! I completed my 2019 Goodreads Reading Challenge! I'm so proud I read 70 books already!
When I was younger, I could've knocked 70 books out in no time but now with 2 toddlers it is so hard to find time to read and still get sleep! Haha
I'm going to try getting to as close to 100 by the end of the year now as I can.

For a #BookAWeek I want to:

I‘ve bought 5 books from the Booker Longlist and I hope to read 4.

There‘re several buddy reads this month and I want to participate in the following 4:
“Pachinko” #WomenReadWomen2019 hosted by @GatheringBooks
“Sleepless Nights” #NYRBBookClub hosted by @vivastory and @youneverarrived
“Overstory” hosted by @litsybookclub
“The Mysterious Affair at Styles” #AgathaChristieClubR2

TheReadingMermaid Those are all fantastic goals. I hope you get to meet them sweetheart. I'm rooting for you! 🎉🎉 5mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks You can do it!!! 🙌🏻🎊🎉 5mo
JamieArc I‘m trying to read a book a week for the Booker prize too. Luckily, a few of them are shorter and make for fast reading. 5mo

AnneCecilie @JamieArc Of the 5 that I own, 3 is short, 1 is in the middle and I have the longest of them. After hearing all the good things about “Ducks, Davenport” I really want to read that. 5mo

vivastory Glad you're joining us for the September #NYRBBookClub 👍 I am really looking forward to it! 5mo
Mindyrecycles Oh thanks! I‘m reading Pachinko now so will join in. Will look in on Overstory as well...loved it. 5mo
AnneCecilie @vivastory I‘m on the waiting list at the library and just hope I get it on time. I‘ve been no 1 on the hold list since early/ middle August and the person loaning the book has been allowed to extend the loan twice. It now says it will get to me in the next 4-6 weeks. 4mo

My favourite of all reading challenges, the #goodreadsseasonalreadingchallenge #fall2019 has started! With the kids all back to school tomorrow and my reading slump behind me (thanks to the #netgalley #reviewathon) I am happy to participate again this season. Any other Littens up for the challenge?

Well I expected to exceed my reading challenge goal since I did so last year as well, but I didn‘t think I‘d reach it this quickly! 😲 I‘m going to see how close I can get to 300 for the year. The fact that I can listen to audiobooks while I work has definitely boosted my numbers.

So I have mixed feelings about this.I picked a low goal thinking that I would be lucky to make it this year.Between work, home & having twins under a year,I have very little time to myself which means very little time to read.I only made this goal because it's all audiobooks due to my commute.I wish it included more books that I actually read. From point on though,I'm going to try my hardest to make time for actual reading.TBH I miss it, a lot.

Avanders Congrats!! And I know the feeling.. don‘t feel bad, enjoy the books you read, by whatever method, and when you have time, then you can turn to reading. I‘m preaching to myself here 😁😘 5mo
Samplergal Don‘t feel bad. You‘re still enjoying literature. Think of it as a bedtime story your mum is reading to you. Still counts. When I was working, I could only read about 15 for entire year. You‘re doing great! 5mo
Gissy Congratulations!📚📚📚🎉🎊🎉🎊👏👏👏👏👏❤️ 5mo

In order to refocus my reading, I've created this reading bingo to make sure that the new hyped books are not distracting me from getting to books and topics I have been meaning to get to for years now.
This is not a year or a season challenge, rather it's a constant point of reference to make sure I get to key books/authors on my TBR
I used the following bingo card generator:

#readinglife #readingchallenge

Suet624 Such a great idea. 5mo

I was feeling pretty good about this until I clicked over to “Friends‘ Challenges”.

I‘m in the presence of some unholy read-demons over here.

chaoticgoodhufflepuff Congrats! I try not to judge myself on my friends‘ challenges. I‘m friends with a couple of very nice retired ladies who read three or four IN A WEEK! And here‘s me just 😱😱 5mo
Andrew65 @chaoticgoodhufflepuff Yes we all lead different lives and have different amounts of time to read. I always compare myself to my previous reading achievements. 5mo

Just like that my first round of 19 books for the Goodreads reading challenge is complete and so is my summer reading challenge on Bookly!

Counted the spaces left on my book tracker in my notebook & upped the ante on my Goodreads challenge to fill out the page, bringing my 2019 total up to 32 books! More than I‘ve ever finished before!

Definitely decided my roommate doesn‘t really need to see me in real life. 😂

Read on, Littens!! 📚💯📖

It has been a while since I posted this and there are so many new Littens. I thought it was time to repost and remind everyone of the #SeriesRead challenge.

How it works:
Anytime you read a book in a series and post about it, tag me @TheSpineView and use the #SeriesRead. I am doing quarterly giveaways. There are still 2 quarters to go and the more you enter the better your odds.

Happy Reading! 💜📚

Crazeedi I never knew this!! I read series all the time!! Thanks for posting this 6mo

Goodreads sent me an email today about my 2019 Reading Challenge progress. I only need to read 3.5 books a week to finish the challenge. Very doable for me.

post image

Yup....that about sums up my summer so far. I am in need of some reading mojo! I have been unmotivated and uninspired by every book I have tried recently. The books I want to read are huge, but overwhelming to start. How do I get out of my reading funk?

chaoticgoodhufflepuff I have always gotten myself out of a reading funk by finding an old favorite and rereading it. Remind myself why I love reading, you know? 6mo
LibrarianRyan I get it. Im not much better. 6mo
Stacy_31 Same happens here. I get so stoked about reading a book, and then a chapter or two in and I just lose interest. I started reading graphic novels of some old favorites. The Lottery was a good one and quick. Currently I‘m working on TKAM. Not my usual genre, but gives me a kickstart when I need it. 6mo
See All 6 Comments
Megabooks Light, short books, rereads, memoirs 6mo
wanderinglynn I had a terrible reading slump during the first 3 months of 2019. What helped me were audiobooks. And I listened to all favorites (so technically, “rereads”). That & focusing on other hobbies helped get me back to reading. 6mo
Ingerella @wanderinglynn @Megabooks @Stacy_31 @LibrarianRyan @chaoticgoodhufflepuff Thank you so much for the suggestions! I went back to my book shelf last night to see if anything inspired me and I settled on Caroline, about the Ingalls family. I haven't read it before, but Little House definitely feels like comfort zone reading. It seems to have done the trick..so far! I read quite a bit before falling asleep! Here's hoping I can keep it up! 6mo
