#Read2025

This apocalyptic horror novella caught my eye on the library shelf & it was a good creepy quick read. (I finished it in about an hour-ish at Silent Book Club). An unreliable narrator makes it hard to tell what was “real” & what was in Riley‘s head & the tension & crazy ratcheted up with each page turn. A Bird Box vibe (at least the movie, I didn‘t read the book) & a good fast book if you are in the mood for somewhat graphic horror.

This was languishing on my Kindle…actually a pleasant little romance! Part of the Westcott Bay series. Two former HS sweethearts meet at a mutual friend‘s holiday gathering at San Juan Island-will sparks ensue?

“There is a bright full moon, and boats in the harbor are lit up and dancing in the inky water.”

With seven older brothers and a love of adventure, May Amelia Jackson just can't seem to abide her family's insistence that she behave like a Proper Young Lady. Set in Washington in 1899 - HF MG by one of my favorite Newbery authors.

80/100 I found this delightful, both in the characters and the world building. My only complaint is it's too short, it's only scratched the surface of the characters' histories and the wrecked world they live in, before it suddenly over. If the author wanted to do a series of novellas, like the Murderbot Diaries, with these characters, I'd be very interested to read more about the Automatic Noodle restaurant. 4/5 ⭐ #Read2025

79/100 I've always been a big fan of The Shadow, and I loved The Green Hornet TV series as a kid, so this team up was right up my Alley. Its 1939 and The Shadow's arch nemesis, Shiwan Khan, is working with Hitler to keep the US out of the upcoming war by crippling America's industrial complex. Khan approaches The Green Hornet, believing he is a crime lord, to aid in this endeavor. As with any team up, at first our heroes are at odds ⬇️

RamsFan1963 with one another, before realizing they're on the same side and join forces. I wish Kato had had more to do in the story, but otherwise it was a nice throw back to the kind of crime dramas that played on the radio. 4.5/5 ⭐ #Read2025 11h

Finished earlier in the week for #NancyDrewBR
This one did not seem familiar to me, so is it a reread or not? Hmmm… 🤔 Anyway, not my favorite book, but still a pick for nostalgia. This one (I read the 1973 version) is set in a little seaside town, drivable from River Heights. Again, where is River Heights because I keep reading Midwest? Maybe it‘s a lake beach town?🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyway Nanners & her girls are there to ⬇️

DebinHawaii … meet/help Mr. Drew‘s client & they stumble into a couple of mysteries, one involving a ghost & the other perfume/cosmetics/investment fraud. I like a good small sea town setting, but there was too much Ned in this one for me. If the drive for Nancy & friends was a long one, how is Ned in the neighborhood as a insurance salesman none the less? It sends a stalkerish vibe & Nancy “needs” or gets a lot of rescuing from him in this one. 🙄 ⬇️ (edited) 14h
DebinHawaii … ***Small noggin spoiler*** There are no blows to the head in this one, so no #NNK count & we are still 10/23 however there is “drugging” with mysterious fumes which can‘t be good for her head either ( it hopefully explains her disheveled look on the cover).🤕 There‘s also little people bad guys (called “dwarves & elves”)😳that are an interesting but needless addition. 🤷🏻‍♀️

… All in all it will make for interesting #NancyDrewBR discussion.

dabbe I love that line “pick for nostalgia“. That's how I mostly feel rereading these books. 11h

“Sometimes it's not the people that change. It's the mask that falls off.”

Dark psychological thriller with several POVs and timelines that threw me around a bit and became confusing. But good twists and voices to for audioscrapbooking.
