Nope nope nope. I didn‘t think there could be a more annoying character than Ana until we met her “inner goddess”. I was rolling my eyes so much while listening to this that I thought Christian was gonna come spank me. Nothing about this book is good and I‘m shocked that it made it on to the Great American Read.

Ericalambbrown It really is just awful. 🤣 Somewhere in the vast hellscape that is the internet there is a video of Gilbert Gottfried reading some of the saucier bits from the book. It‘s pretty funny. (edited) 7h

I probably shouldn‘t have read it at the same time as I was listening to Fifty Shades of Grey - there was so much sex, beatings, and shackles I was getting confused which book I was in. Claire accepts her situation a little too easily for me to believe and I would have actually liked some more time travel or some info as to what was going on back in her time. I already bought the second book but I think it will be a while before I read it.

I really don‘t even know if I liked this book or not.... I listened to it on audiobook and there were certainly a couple times during Ignatius‘ ramblings that I zoned out but for the most part it kept me entertained. The narrator made Ignatius sound like Eugene from The Walking Dead and thats all I could picture the whole time! It seemed the whole book was a comedy of errors with an unlikeable main character who had NO redeeming qualities

britt_brooke I love how absurd Ignatius is. This is one of my favorites. 2w

Ran a 10k this morning, and now I have to prep for work next week but all I really want to do is sit outside with my book and my drink! Instead of a mimosa I made a drink with Prosecco and sparkling lemonade, it‘s delicious!

I started teaching at my local community college and have been frustrated by the fact that I don‘t have any training as an educator - I don‘t have an education degree. This has helped open my eyes to the way we learn so that I can adjust the way I teach. Very interesting information for students and teachers alike.

This book raises some really interesting questions. Can we change who we are or who we are meant to be? Can we ever really make a big change in the world? How would we have reacted at specific times in history (mainly WW II and the civil rights movement). It was good and it was really long!

Avanders Oh my gosh, are you serious about that view?! 🤤😍😍 1mo

I loved the format of this book, told as an “oral history”. The interviews felt so real I could almost see the True Hollywood Story. I kept picturing Billy as Johnny Depp in the Tom Petty video for “Into the Great Wide Open” - aaaand now you have that song in your head, you‘re welcome!

Anne of Green Gables | L M Montgomery
post image

Listening to this one on audiobook, I like it so far but I have some concerns about a few details. Mrs. Lynde was knitting a quilt - no, you don‘t knit a quilt, you quilt a quilt.... and Marilla keeps “ejaculating” can‘t she just use the word “exclaimed” instead? I want to laugh every time they say it!

Lindy Online homework help for students reading Anne of Green Gables answers the knitted quilt question quite thoroughly, but here‘s the gist: “When we think of quilts, what usually comes to mind is a patchwork of cotton fabrics sewn together, not knitted. For Lucy Maud Montgomery, however, a quilt seems to have been any kind of bed covering. So what Rachel Lynde was knitting was probably a large blanket.” 3mo
GloVerdino @Lindy that explains a lot! I feel like I need a reading guide for some classic literature to explain these kinds of references 3mo

I was going to give this book 4 stars until the last two chapters, and now I‘m giving it 5. What a beautiful story about friendship, forgiveness, and understanding. I‘ve never heard of Jeju Island but this book gave a glimpse into life on the other side of the world, the women on this island are amazing! I also don‘t know anything about the Korean War so those parts were a little more difficult for me to completely understand. Overall, wonderful.

I actually enjoyed this book! It wasn‘t amazing but it was a quick fun read. I‘ve heard other people call it “campy” and that‘s exactly how I would describe it, like an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it deals with some serious content but in a light way. Anya borders on Joe Goldberg obsession and I hear this book is going to made into a show also.

My niece loaned me her copy so I can check it off my #GAR list. Of course it was a cute story but I felt like I was having a hard time telling the characters emotions. I couldn‘t tell if Fern‘s mother was excited, or mad, or sarcastic.... maybe just me! And then at the ripe old age of 8 Fern discovers boys and doesn‘t hang out with Wilbur anymore??

mcctrish I read this as a child , maybe 4th grade? I‘ve read it in school ( I‘m a teacher) and I‘ve read it to my 2 boys. Several years go by between my readings and I‘m reading it again right now to a grade 2/3 split. Different things stick out every time I read it, it is a wonderful book to read aloud. Today the geese made me laugh so hard in the scene where Wilbur is getting loaded up to go to the fair (edited) 1mo

I really enjoyed this one. For me it was more about the things we do for the people we love and how we can lose ourselves in that process. Keeping secrets and protecting others while essentially not listening to what we really want out of life. An interesting story.

I guess this is gonna be an unpopular opinion but I didn‘t love it. First off, why don‘t those kids have names? I didn‘t feel sympathy for Malorie at all, maybe I was reading her voice wrong but she seemed too harsh to me. I didn‘t feel any suspense, and the one part that should have been scary just seemed chaotic and confusing. Oh, and Gary is the worst. The picture is how I feel after staying up too late to finish this book!
