The Library Book | Susan Orlean

"We finally made our way to the Fiction Department and stopped near the first row of shelves. Brecher took a break from his commentary and reached for one of the books, cracked it open, held it up to his face, and inhaled deeply. I had never seen someone smell a book quite like that before. Brecher inhaled the book a few more times, then clapped it shut and placed it back on the shelf."

No shame in the deeply meditative act of book-sniffing ??

Gator Dad | Brian Lies

Pickpick

• Logan's Bookshelf || 5/5 ⭐️ A super-cute book about a gator Dad who demonstrates all the sweet (and simple) ways in which a father can love his children. This gator Dad wants to "squeeze" (seize) the day with his brood by waking up early for breakfast, going to the park for adventures, building a living room fort, playing dress-up, giving his little ones a scrub in the tub, and of course, reading them a bedtime story. Gotta love animal daddies •

• Haven't had ANY adult reading time these past few weeks because of the little one; seemingly endless hours of nursing and keeping a baby alive is my life now 😉 I am making very slow progress with this book, but enjoying it just the same. I have to get caught up with this series, which might or might not be ongoing. It would be great if I could accomplish that goal before the end of the year!! •

• Logan and I read our 1st book together this afternoon while we nursed. Reading to our babies is important! We have started on the journey to Raising a Reader 😊📚 While he's this young, I hope to spend our time together bonding in two ways: nursing and reading. This little guy already has quite the book collection. We'll be checking out the children's section of the library very soon as well!! Yay for babies and books •

• Received this #goodreads #giveaway back in the spring. This one came out July 2. Currently on page 45 and not liking it. It's either the fact I don't like the characters, or the drama world completely bores me (both are true) but I just don't have good luck with fiction ARCs 🤷‍♀️ Giving it a little bit longer (seriously, 25 more pages) and I'm bailing. Might anyone be interested in a #LitsyBookSwap? I know...way to sell it, right?! 😆 •

The Color Purple | Alice Walker
Pickpick

• 4/5 ⭐️ for the following elements, continued in comments section:

1. I feel it reaches beyond African-American literature; it felt "important" in the canon of Western/American literature

2. Despite the difficulty of reading aloud African-American vernacular, the language is downright beautiful

3. The characters of Celie, Nettie and Shug Avery are examples of strong and powerful women, some of the best in literature

Readage 4. Beautiful representation of two women characters falling in love and exploring the physicality of said relationship (Celie and Shug) (edited) 2mo
Readage 5. The perseverance of the human spirit is on full display in this novel, rendered convincingly but not without elements of despair and brokenness 2mo
Readage 6. The only reason I didn't give it the full 5 ⭐️ is because this novel is told in the epistolary style and I'm just not a huge fan of that technique. That said, it does not detract from the novel in a major way for me. My first Alice Walker and I'm definitely interested in her backlist 😁 Highly recommend!! 2mo
