This was #24 in the China Bayles series, but the first one I‘ve read. The author did a good job of filling in pertinent past information, so I never felt lost. I enjoyed the mystery, and the bits-and-pieces way clues were revealed. I will read more of this series. Set in April in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, this was a last-minute substitution for #SeasonalCozies. Hoopla snatched my original choice back after I‘d only read 2 chapters! 🙃

Searching for Eternity | Elizabeth Musser
post image
Pickpick

Set primarily in 1940s France and 1960s Atlanta, this book is a testament to the strength of the human spirit to survive despite unimaginable circumstances and suffering. It realistically portrays the different ways survivors deal with the after effects of such suffering, and showcases how time, faith, determination, hard work, and love (both human and divine) can help the slow process of healing. Tough but worthwhile reading. Christian Fiction.

An uplifting story of group of women coming together to support each other through the dark days of World War II in war-torn Kent, England. Watching these typical, normal village women find their inner strength and grow in independence, while also caring for each other, is so inspiring. Most of the women are flawed, some are not likable, and many of them make mistakes, but they all persevere, doing the best they can in extraordinary times. ⬇️

julieclair A very realistic-feeling portrayal of life on the Home Front during the war.

This was my #ReadOrDonate choice for March.

This was not my favorite Heyer. It was a bit too silly at times. And I have learned that I want to like the female protagonist in a Heyer novel - I want to root for her and see her happy - and I just wasn‘t a fan of Cleone.

What has everyone chosen to #ReadOrDonate in April? I‘m still deciding…

TheBookHippie Sent March off to used bookstore to go to teacher credit- a whole box of fiction I‘ll never reread or read. March was heavy reading month. But for April I‘m doing 4w
See All 18 Comments
PuddleJumper I haven't read anything in March so probably the same ones. I do keep eyeing up Dove & Serpent but it's a chonky book 4w
TheAromaofBooks I'm picking up another old OwlCrate book that I've had forever! 4w
julieclair @BarkingMadRead That book was soooooo good! Enjoy! 4w
julieclair @TheBookHippie Teacher credit…. Does that mean you donate and they will allow a teacher to use the credit you would have gotten for those books? 4w
julieclair @PuddleJumper Chonky books scare me, lol! 🤪 4w
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks Enjoy! I have never tried Owl Crate did/do you like it? 4w
julieclair @LeeRHarry That one looks fascinating! Looking forward to your review. 4w
TheBookHippie @julieclair yes!!! It‘s so fun!!! 4w
julieclair @TheBookHippie What a great idea. I wish I knew of a place near me that would do that. 4w
TheAromaofBooks @julieclair - I've had it on and off again 😂 Currently I'm off lol I always seem to enjoy the concept of it more than the actual product. The items are always lovely quality, but not always things I can actually use. I follow a spoiler account on IG so I know the book ahead of time and can decide if I want it or want to skip. I thought about going to their book-only box, but it seems really expensive. But they have upped their prettiness/fun for⬇ 4w
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) books, so there is that. I just hate spending so much money on a book I don't know whether or not I'll enjoy!! But some of them are SO pretty. I think in the end I'm too much of a cheapskate/picky reader to be able to wholeheartedly enjoy the subscription, but I do think it's a quality box, if that makes sense haha 4w
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks Thanks for this really helpful review. I find that I always love the idea of subscription boxes (not just book ones), but often don't use all the items that come in the box. Following a spoiler account on IG is a good idea - I never thought of doing that. But prettiness is a strong pull for me. And so is the idea of getting a "gift" in the mail every month! ?? 4w
TheAromaofBooks There are sooo many different ones and they are all fun in different ways. Some do used books, which I also find fun. But in the end I've just found myself to be a somewhat picky reader, so I like to track what books come out in OC each month and add it to my TBR if it looks interesting. If I read and like it, I can usually find a copy of the OC edition on Pango. The draw of bookish goodies is partially why I find it hard to resist Litsy swaps!!😂 4w
julieclair @TheAromaOfBooks So true about Litsy swaps! In fact, unlike subscription boxes, I‘ve never failed to love every single thing I‘ve received from a Litsy swap! (edited) 4w

Pickpick

A lovely, calm, relaxing read. So civilized and satisfying. Perfect with a cup of tea on a quiet afternoon. Another pleasant #FurrowedMiddleBrowClub pick.

Ruthiella Glad you enjoyed it! Stevenson seems to be quite dependable for light romance. 1mo
