A broken-hearted woman finds an old diary. Parallel plot lines ensue. I sometimes got confused about which plot line belonged to which set of characters, but it all made sense in the very surprising ending.

Nobody writes like Wodehouse! A fluffy, madcap romp filled with silly antics and irreverent dialogue. Totally enjoyable. #6 in the Blandings series. I had not read the first 5, and it didn‘t matter.
Great pick to finish out #Round16 of #LMPBC for #GroupH, @TheAromaofBooks !

Moody and atmospheric. And rather sad. Is it a ghost story? I wondered right up until the end.

A sweet story focusing on reassessing career and relationship choices during mid-life, and the possibility of changing directions. Well-depicted contrast between city and country life. Endearing characters. Looking forward to reading more of this series.
Thanks, @Clwojick , for another great #TrappedOnAnIsland pick!

Hello #LMPBC #GroupS friends! What do y‘all think of these as choices for our Springtime read?
@Jerdencon @Deblovestoread @Reggie
This book kept me guessing all the way through, trying to figure out where the story was going, and how the author was going to reconcile the two storylines and time periods. The ending was a little lame, and still left me with some questions, but overall I enjoyed the book. Looking forward to Sunday‘s discussion!

I loved this book as a child, and perhaps that is why I still find it charming as an adult, despite the underlying political messages of which I am now aware. Thank you to @TheBookHippie for choosing this as a selection for #ChildrensClassicRead2023, and especially for the excellent research about modern interpretations of the book. Fascinating.

Totally adorable. All the sweet romcom feels. Grumpy guy, cute but nerdy girl, sweet dog, adventurous mishaps, gorgeous Alaska setting. Fun!

I wish I had read this book as a child, when it would have seemed magical. As an adult, what I mainly felt was petrified, as the Ingalls family faced one peril after another. But the story is fascinating, despite the fact that I think Ma and Pa Ingalls made some unwise decisions that imperiled their family needlessly. β¬οΈ

Reading about Anne‘s tragic life before she came to Green Gables made me love her all the more! She faces her trials with determination and spunk and an indomitable positive outlook. The author has done a great job of capturing her spirit and dialogue. I was a bit hesitant to read this book because I thought it would just be sad, but instead, I found it to be uplifting. β¬οΈ
My goals for the #FabulousFebruary Readathon. Thanks, @Andrew65 , for helping me focus. It‘s great to have a plan!
Heads up- once you have finished the book, be sure to read the Author‘s Note at the end. It βmadeβ the book for me! This book had more depth than I was expecting. We watch the main character, 50-year-old Sonny, struggle to come to terms with a tragedy from her childhood that has haunted her all her life. It is ultimately a hopeful story, and Sonny is fortunate to have a wonderful mom and friends who help her on her journey. β¬οΈ
My results for the January #20in4 Readathon. Did not achieve all my goals, but sure did enjoy my reading time! I will finish The Secret of Snow today, and Before Green Gables by Thursday. Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 . I always enjoy your Readathons.
Second in a series. I enjoy Delafield‘s writing and dry sense of humor. And her books give a fascinating picture of the life of an upper middle class English family between the wars. But I didn‘t connect with this book as much as I did the first one. I‘m not sure whyβ¦ perhaps because her writing style was already familiar to me so I didn‘t find it as novel and refreshing. But still a fun read!
Headed to you next @TheAromaofBooks #LMPBC #GroupH
Humorous essays about author Bill Bryson‘s move back to the USA after 20 years abroad. First published in 1999, so some of the essays are a bit dated (particularly the ones about technology), but are still good for a chuckle. And there are a few actual laugh-out-loud moments. Originally written as newspaper columns, the pieces are short and quick to read. Great to keep on hand for a brief, uplifting humor break during a busy or stressful day.
An absolute sweet gem of a book! Page after page of bookish art and bookish quotes. Plus a few short, excellent essays about the reading life from Ann Patchett, Gretchen Rubin and Maura Kelly. A book to savor, a page or two at a time. Perfect for a quick 5-minute escape whenever needed!

Wow. What great storytelling. A sad, but ultimately hopeful tale about the desperation of life during the Great Depression, the resilience of the human spirit, and the importance of found family. The story highlights that there are good people to be found even in the worst circumstances, but the descriptions of those circumstances definitely tug at your heartstrings. β¬οΈ

A book involving both time travel and Jane Austen? Sounded fascinating, but I found the storyline to be as disconnected as the concept. The plot moved in strange directions. And I was surprised to find that I disliked some of the Austen family members, which was disappointing. I also disliked many of the choices the main characters made. #PemberLittens @StayCurious #Booked2023 @Cinfhen @alisiakae @BarbaraTheBibliophage #UKRoadTrip @jenniferw88
Fantastic pick by @TheBookHippie for #SundayBuddyRead. βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ Historical fiction about 4 smart, strong women who are sisters-in-law, and part of a mob family. They all have secrets - big ones. And, they all have a fierce love and loyalty to their family. The characters are fictional, but many of the gangsters with whom they interact were real. Fascinating.
