For May‘s #FictionalTraveler #SpanishSpeaking prompt, I will be traveling to Ecuador. Where will everyone else be traveling? Have you ever been to that location in real life? I have never been to Ecuador. 🇪🇨

BarkingMadRead I‘m going to Mexico! I‘ve been there a couple of times, but only on cruises. 11h
Cuilin #BookedInTime this month is the Spanish Civil War, so I‘m guessing I‘m off to Sunny Spain. I‘ve been to the Canary Islands, Gerona and Malaga. I would absolutely love to see more of the country. 10h
BarbaraBB I‘ll travel to Argentina 🇦🇷 with this book 8h

TheAromaofBooks I'm going to Peru! Litsy won't let me tag - It's a Jungle Out There by Ron Snelling. I've never been to Peru, but I have been to Guatemala and it was BEAUTIFUL! 45m
julieclair @BarkingMadRead @Cuilin @BarbaraBB @TheAromaofBooks So far we have Ecuador, Mexico, Spain, Argentina and Peru. What fun! I can‘t wait to read everyone‘s reviews. 8m

#BookedInTime #BookedInTimeMay2025 #BookedInTimeSpanishCivilWar

There‘s so many I want to read!!! How about you?

Cuilin The two sides of the Spanish Civil War are the left side, known as the Republicans, was formed by the Spanish government together with unions, communists, anarchists, workers, and peasants. On the other side were the Nationalists, the rebel part of the army, the bourgeoisie, the landlords, and, generally, the upper classes. 1d

ChaoticMissAdventures I HIGHLY recommend this one - it is a bit of a chunkster but I was blown away by it 1d
Cuilin @Itchyfeetreader I‘m intrigued, looking forward to your thoughts. 1d
Cuilin @ChaoticMissAdventures Yes, I put it on the list!!! I read so many great reviews. 1d
ChaoticMissAdventures If anyone wants a nonfiction about this time Hemingway and Orwell's books are both great and semi- autobiographical but this one is the best I have read (and I have been obsessed with this time period since I was a teen exchange student in Spain) 1d
Cuilin @ChaoticMissAdventures I have Orwell‘s on my TBR and I‘ll add this one too. Thanks for the recommendation. 1d

I was reading this for #BookedInTime when the details started to seem familiar. Checked LibraryThing and turns out I had read it in 2014. According to my review I was just meh on it then too so I‘m moving on.

Cuilin 👍 I DNF‘d mine. 😞 I just couldn‘t get into it. 1d
Bookwormjillk @Cuilin I‘ll have to see if I can find something else later in the year. I really wanted to like it! 1d

#recentreads
The bad news is I'm still looking for a job. The good news is I love my current job, and I'm still able to listen to books while I work. These are mostly four-star reads that I've read in April.
I chose a reread of one of my favorite High School required reading novels for #BookedInTime :China
April 2025 @Cuilin

Cuilin Oh lovely. ✅ 🎉 Unfortunately I DNF‘d mine. 3d
dabbe I hope you find a new job soon. 🤩💙🩵 2d

#Read2025

Finished this weekend for #BookedInTime & #FoodAndLit #Ireland This book is set in 1847 against the backdrop of the Irish famine where a ship of many souls (over 450 with steerage, First Class & crew) sets out from Ireland to New York trying to escape the Great Famine & survive. There are lots of secrets revealed & a murder that take place on the month-long voyage. This was tough to read due to the subject matter & many characters ⬇️

DebinHawaii …to keep track of as well as the sometimes convoluted writing & back & forth in time, but it‘s a good book & well worth the effort.

(I‘ll do a separate #FoodAndLit post with the Irish food I ate.)
