Palisades Park | Alan Brennert
post image

My July choice for #ReadOrDonate is Palisades Park, historical fiction about a legendary amusement park near where I grew up in New Jersey. What will everyone else be reading and/or donating?

AmyG I grew up near there, too…in Bergen County. 2d
Amiable I read this one —I don‘t think I enjoyed it very much. I think I was disappointed because I liked this one so much: 2d
Read4life @AmyG I grew up in Passaic County. 🤓 2d

julieclair @AmyG @Read4life I was born in Paterson, too! At the old Paterson General, which no longer exists. And I grew up in Bergen County, In Wyckoff. But our church was in Paterson - in the Totowa section. So I kind of grew up in both places, Wyckoff and Paterson. 19h
Read4life @julieclair @AmyG I was born in St. Joseph‘s. I lived in Prospect Park which borders Paterson. 18h
AmyG My parents almost bought a house in Wycoff. I grew up in Fair Lawn. Small world @julieclair @Read4life 18h
julieclair @AmyG My dad's best friend & his family lived in Fair Lawn. He was the superintendent of schools there for many years. @Read4life I lived in Hawthorne, right next to Prospect Park, until I was 4. Small world indeed! Now I'm craving Texas weiners, lol! And Taylor ham. 😘 14h
AmyG @Julieclair Too funny! 14h
gossamerchild I'm still working on Cryptonomicon :-D In my defense, I haven't picked it up in a while. My plan is to get back to it this month. I WILL finish it! 6h
julieclair @Amiable Moloka‘i is on my TBR, but I don‘t own a copy. It‘s interesting that you liked one so much more than the other. I‘m predisposed to like this one because of its link to my childhood. 😉 5h
julieclair @gossamerchild You will finish it for sure. I have faith in you! 5h
Read4life My grandparents lived in Hawthorne in the house my grandfather and great grandfather built. I spent many summer days in the Hawthorne pool!! 2h

This book has been on my shelf forever. It was a so so read for me. As the title suggests there is a lot of killing in this book. The main character it a hitman who unwittingly is called to do a job outside of protocol and chaos ensues. Ended up being a read AND donate. I dropped it off at a little free library near me and swapped it for this Encyclopedia Brown book. #ReadOrDonate #EBBR #ISpyBingo

Ruthiella Great find! I love it when the FLL delivers like that. 😃 2d
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 2d
julieclair I‘m guessing there will be less killing in the Encyclopedia Brown book! 😆 5h

I think the only way to get this off my shelf is to choose it for #ReadOrDonate
Hopefully it‘s a read and not a DNF. Either way I‘m going to #ClearMyShelves

Mehso-so

This was a cute cozy mystery, but not one of my favorites. I actually found it a bit boring. But I did enjoy the setting at a Librarian‘s Conference. And the main character‘s Maine coon cat was a fun - if superfluous - addition.

This was my #ReadOrDonate selection for June. I‘ll bring it to our local Little Free Library. It would be a good beach read for our island‘s summer visitors - light, entertaining, and easily completed in a week.

AnnCrystal A Maine Coon Cat 🤩🐈🆒💝💝💝. 2w

A Candle in the Dark | Megan Chance

My #ReadOrDonate book; I did read about a third of it. Megan Chance wrote intense, interesting, dark romances but a lot of their value was in how different they were for their time, and that's no longer a big draw for me. Neither is 400 pages of stress.

julieclair 400 pages of stress? #HailtheBail 🪂 2w

Pickpick

A YA retelling of Thelma and Louise, where two teens with horrible home lives decide to split town and go somewhere where they can live on their own terms. Some things were improbable, but not really outlandishly so. If you can just go along for the ride, it‘s entertaining enough!

I haven‘t exactly been following through on #ReadOrDonate this year so I am going to let June be a mulligan and will finally make it out to my Little Free Library if I still don‘t finish these by the end of the month. Also I did not intentionally make the last 3 titles spell out WTF, but wtf 😂
