This is the book that got me out of my reading slump. It was a cute, fun, and romantic fantasy. I hope Kingsley the frog gets a bigger role down the line. 😂

I liked this way more than I thought I would. I am extremely upset that it ends on a cliff hanger and I have to wait years for the series to finish.
Evie takes a job with the man known as the Villain in her kingdom and ends up loving her job for more than the steady pay check she desperately needs. While she tries to deal with romance she will also have to catch the person betraying them all.
5/5 read for a slow burn romance & fantasy fun
This book was everything I wanted it to be I had all the feels for it and I can‘t wait for the next by this author… loved every word and how they developed for this story
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Started off a strong read. A cute, darkly comic Fantasy RomCom. But at about 40% it began to drag. By 50% I couldn‘t believe the book wasn‘t over, at 65% I was checking the page count. Perfect example of “less is better” A lot of unnecessary chapters that did not drive the main plot of “who is trying to kill the villain?” This could easily have been 100 pages less and a 5 ⭐️ read. Long winded but cute. I won‘t be continuing the series.
Had to bail at the 4 hour mark. The narrator bugged me and the text sounded too much like a first draft with no editing for my ears. It had no smooth flow to it.
(More to come.)
Hoping to finish 1 more book during our mini getaway.

I dnf'd this book at 49 because it was putting me in a reading slump, so I had to take drastic measures. It's not that it's bad per se, just that maybe it wasn't for me at this moment. Hope I can pick it up in the future.
Silly and so much fun, this world with dragons and brooding villains comes to life through the eyes of Evie. She brash and funny and doesn't seem to mind the evil deeds her boss does each day. Don't overthink the plot and it's completely entertaining and similar in tone to Legends & Lattes. The supporting characters are a treat. There's a sequel in the works and I can't wait to read it.
I knew nothing about this book before listening to it. I just thought it looked fun and quirky and I‘d heard a couple of people vaguely mention it. I didn‘t see any of the TikTok stuff until I looked it up later. I recommend going in fresh if you can. I loved the voice, found it really funny, silly, ridiculous. It just felt like my kind of book 🤷🏼♀️ I‘m looking forward to more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When Evie accidentally gets a job working for The Villain, she‘s alarmed at how quickly torture sounds and severed heads became a normal part of her workday. She finds herself in the crosshairs of The Villain‘s feud with the King more than once but she trusts that her boss will pull her out of the fire.
It‘s cozy, it‘s ridiculous, it‘s hilarious, and I can‘t wait for the second one.
Who‘s the villain here? Gatsby? Ozzie? Me?
This is somewhere between so-so and pan for me. When my sister was talking about this book to me she said it's almost like The Princess Bride, you either love it and all it's cheesy glory, or you hate it. I have no clue which side I'm on, but I understand both. It was almost painful reading parts of the story because they are stereotypical, immature, or cheesy. The "twists" were predictable, poorly foreshadowed, and thrown in far too often.⬇️
Rereading this delightful book and stumbled upon the villain being unnecessarily attractive and relatable. He‘s so hot… 🥵
Finally the weekend📚☕️. I set a small reading goal this year, 24 in 24!! #wishmeluck #24books #weekendvibes
What a fun and unique read. I absolutely loved this! A woman looking for work to support her family finds herself working for someone evil and she loves it. Chaos ensues and I loved the twist at the end. I cannot wait for the next book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really loved this book! This I didn‘t think was my typical genre but looking over my 2023 reading list…I‘ve kinda dipped in to the romantacy genre 🤭 This book was super cute & I absolutely loved the character Evie she felt so relatable to my social emotions! The storyline was great with surprises & that ending! Gosh I‘m ready for book 2 now (not due until Aug 😭). Definitely anxiously awaiting the next installment!

Second on my bookstore crawl today was Looker Books in Coatesville, PA. It was awesome! I got to talk to the owner while I was there and she is soooo nice and (of course) bookish. I bought Red, White and Royal Blue, a pretty notebook, and the attached book which she recommended since I liked Legends and Lattes. I told her about Litsy so maybe she‘ll join too! But either way her store is cozy, cute and full of books and puzzles. I recommend a trip!
Time to catch up on my reads over the past 4 weeks. I continue in a bit of a slump. I thought lighthearted books were the ticket while dealing with some heavy stuff, but I think now it was a mistake. The fluff isn't engaging me and making me want to get back to the books. I plan on picking up some more substantial reads when we are on winter break in a couple weeks. We'll see if that's the ticket. This was cute and I liked it, but didn't love it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫This book is so tricky to review. I had a great time reading it, and I did really like the story. Was it well written? Not really. Especially at the beginning I almost quit multiple times. But I do think her writing got better as it went on, and by the end I was hooked. So 3.5 stars seems a good middle ground. And I‘ll be honest-the romance is cute, the side characters are fun, the magic is interesting, but I stayed for the frog in the crown.
Forgot to post my #readingbracket for November. Read a lot of really good books in November, but I think the tagged book is my favorite. I‘m excited to see what it‘s up against in December!
4.75/5 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌖 A quick and fun read. I love the world it was set in and the romance. Only downside is that it has a cliffhanger and the next book comes out next September.
I surprisingly loved this book! I loved the world and the type of time period it was sent in. I don‘t know why I didn‘t realize it was going to be in a fantasy world, but I loved this.
Though, I need to realize that books are series and will end on a cliffhanger. Because I was shocked to find out the book ended how it did!
Now to wait forever for the next one. 💚
Continuing Sunday afternoon quiet reading time with this pick — I hear good things, so hope it‘s a good one!
I love and hate this book! Loved the unique take on this trope but I thought it was a one off and now I hate it because I have to wait for the next in the series!! Argh!
It's been a book trauma day—this is my second bail. Luckily, the third book I started was the charm (at least I'm cautiously optimistic).
Definitely over-hyped. Plot holes, no world building, little character development. This is supposed to be aimed at adults, but reads much younger. And I might have chuckled once, but it‘s not laugh-out-loud hilarious. It felt like it was written by a young teen/preteen, especially the “kissing” scenes.
Oh, and did I mention it ends on a big ole cliff hanger? Sadly, I will never know the fate of the Villain because I won‘t read book 2.
It has been a long time since a book not only made me laugh out loud, but read with a constant smile on my face. I would so love to have a real life friend like Evie, the MC. The author has nailed this character with not just wit, sarcasm and snark, but also genuinely likable with a good heart.
Loved it! My only problem with it is that apparently book two comes out in 2024. Sigh.
Pure guilty pleasure mind candy that has taken TikTok by storm. Basically, a comical and ridiculous satire of a struggling peasant girl who accepts a job offer to the kingdom's handsome supervillain. Expect hysterical fantasy tropes and your typical murder and mayhem that proves being a gopher to the Big Bad of the land isn't it's all cracked up to be.
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe…
I reallllllllly have a problem starting books. Plenty of options, so what is my deal?!! 🫠
So excited for this one. As soon as it came to the store I snagged and even grabbed it in ebook and did it as a pick for bookclub. But sadly it just did not live up to the hype.
This should have been about a 100 pages shorter and faster paced. The snark was great and I loved the banter between the assistant and the Villian. But as I neared the last few chapters I lost interest. Would have been better suited as a stand alone.
Light and fluffy with a crown-wearing frog? I‘m in.
I have zero spare time for tic toc, library recommended.
Often laugh out loud FUN. It‘s cotton candy, fluff & made me smile. Sometimes you really need an easy book & a laugh.
A bit YA tropey. Quite a bit of 20-something angst. The world & romance is a slow build but interesting & sweet.
I look forward to the Evie/Tristan romance & to seeing if Evie will inherit her mom‘s magic. I didn‘t expect the ending as I wasn‘t looking for it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4
Bookstagram and Booktok made me do it and boy am I glad I did. This one was such a sassy romp! It's snuggly and cozy, with some light fantasy aspects and lots of slow burn romance. I loved the back and forth with Evie and The Villain! It was a lot of fun! A definite read alike if you were a fan of Legends and Lattes or just love a good grumpy vs sunshine romance. It ends on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait for Book 2!!!
This is one of my favorite books of the year 📚 It‘s exactly what I needed 🤩 Fantasy, mystery, romance, adventure… this one has it all! 💜
If you like your fantasy with a main character, a young woman desperate to find a job so she can help support her family, who is rescued from the good guys by the villain who is then so entertained by her, he offers her a job & she spends the rest of the story thirsting after him, well this is the silly, very amusing, lighthearted, fun, quirky read you‘ve been looking for. There‘s more to it—secrets, revenge, family drama, romance & a kingly frog
Did I spend an inordinate amount of time giggling and kicking my feet? Yes I did. Did I have an entire color of tab dedicated to girlboss moments and to a frog named Kingsley? Also yes. 10 ⭐️
The time is now. I‘m ready. I AM SO STUPID EXCITED TO READ THIS!!!!!!!!
I‘m so excited to read this!! #assistantothevillan
#MoreMehThanYeah
Guess I was expecting too much. Having no idea how hilarious the original TikTok Version was, I think this book was not hilarious. It read like YA, some passages like MG even - tropes, waffling, endless 'witty' banter.
The narration was okay, but didn't -as it sometimes does- smooth over some poorly written passages.

Anyone else somewhat obsessively check the shipping status of book orders? I‘m currently waiting somewhat patiently for 2, including the tagged, to arrive.

Excited to finally get my hands on this and look at those edges.
Look what came in the mail today! 😍
