I was very excited to read this because talk about a marriage made in horror heaven—clowns and cornfields?!? Are you kidding me? Two of the scariest things EVER (both largely because of Sai King) combined? Talk about win-win! Everything was going smoothly; the horror had kicked in and everything was wonderful, bloody chaos, and then the villains and their motivation were revealed—and it was like a big bucket of ice water to my buy-in. ⬇️ Spoiler

CindyMyLifeIsLit SPOILERS: I guess this is a satire about the gaps between the generations, but I found the whole concept jarring. Even recognizing the satire, I still read the rest of the book with lots of eye rolls. I think I would have enjoyed it more if the clowns had been part of a satanic clown cult or some kind of deviant clown sex group or something. Anyway, the horror part with all the gore is solid, so check it out! 1mo

Great book. I really like Quinn, the main character. I feel like they gave away the bad guy too early. But even knowing who it was, the book was still interesting. Kettle Springs sounds like a terrible place to live.

I really loved this book. I love massacre/slasher movies/books and this just checked all the boxes. Yes I could predict what was going to happen, but the book was so fun that I didn't care. Also it does take the first 130ish pages to get to the good part. But after that it gets so fast paced and intense I couldn't put it down. 4.5/5 stars!

This is a horror novel in the slasher B-movie tradition, silly and bloody and not much else. It reminds me a bit of a more transparent, less sexy YA version of Security by Gina Wohlsdorf. The audiobook narrator (who also narrated Wilder Girls) did a North Dakota accent for characters born and raised in Missouri, which I found a little confusing (and amusing).

Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare.

Seeking a fresh start, Quinn & her dad move to Kettle Springs—a small town said to have been founded generations earlier by its mascot, a clown called Frendo. But Quinn‘s new town has twisted secrets—secrets that‘ll put everyone‘s life in KS on the line.

With great chemistry among colorful characters, this thrilling slasher is easy to get pulled into. In all, it‘s a brutal blast of bloody mayhem.

Bloody..so bloody. Atmospheric teen slasher and would make one heck of an action packed movie. This was the perfect Halloween read. Implausible but sometimes it‘s fun to let your mind push the envelope with how far humans will go for what they believe in. Could‘ve benefitted from a tad more character development, but it reminded me of a horror movie, and those often have little character development. I really enjoyed it though. #horror #halloween

This was a fun and gory read, but you have to suspend reality. The motivation behind the whole plot is rather over-the-top unrealistic, so there‘s that. Other than that, it‘s a rollicking great horror story!

I mean, it‘s literally killer clowns in a cornfield, so…🤷‍♀️ Fun slasher, unnecessary commentary on society. When the phrase “make kettle springs great again” I had to go chase my rolling eyeballs down the hallway. The author isn‘t wrong, it‘s just a bit heavy handed. Take that out, and the gore is fun. Would see this movie.

This one was entertaining enough but is basically a YA slasher story. I was hoping for paranormal evil clowns but they weren‘t. Plot heavy and fast paced. Wished for more character development as there could have been a deeper emotional core, but still a decent listen.

This cover had me expecting one thing, but this is a pretty straight forward, perfectly fine teen scream. It's got -some- interest in its themes, but mostly wants to slash action its way through a very jam packed 4 days. It's fine!

My second book in a row that's from the last couple of years that has characters being naïve about cops and whether they would be in on town-controlling events. This is a book about teens, so maybe that's more excusable, but also the narrative describes these teens as “woke“ so, they should know that cops are bad news.

khooliha Also, if you are at a party beset by murderous clowns and some of your friends showed up dressed as the same clown and they refuse to take off the clown costumes and keep fucking up your escape attempts? Hey, they might be in with the clowns! But what do I, an adult, know? 1y

🎧📚 I bought this book last year. I liked the ... cover 😂

Quinn & her doctor father move from Pittsburgh to small town Missouri after her mom dies from an overdose.

Easy read. The town‘s in a financial downward spiral & the adults are not fond of the youth. Corn fields surround the town as the farmers are paid by the government to plant not harvest.

The last 45% of the book is all blood & guts & Friendo‘s! Predictable but still fun! ⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

I genuinely don‘t know why I decided to read a killer clown horror story. If you missed it, I hate clowns. They absolutely terrify me, but here we are. I ended up loving this, and was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Small-town horror is my one of my favourites, and Cesare did an excellent job of creating an isolated horror event and atmosphere.

Last year I read a newer Fear Street book (since I was obsessed with that series growing up) and it was absolutely terrible. This however, while not a literary masterpiece or anything like that, scratched that itch for a solid teen slasher. It‘s so much gorier than I was expecting.

A fun, gory, heart pumping slasher story that reminds me of all those 80s and 90s movies where teenagers are doing their own thing, pissing off adults that don‘t understand them, and dealing with a mysterious murderer trying to take them out. A nice horror novel with some Stephen King vibes. No revolution to the genre, but I've spent some nice hours with this one. The characters are mostly known stereotypes from other teenage horror movies and books, but as the story continues, they develop their own characteristics.

Also a good amount of bloodshedding ☠
