Very very good but not my favourite King 4 ⭐️
One thing I love about Stephen King‘s writing is his inuendos about New England. Growing up primarily in MA & CT, it‘s been a while since I‘ve heard “ijets.” I may have remind my husband of this slang, he may have forgotten it 😂
Interesting that Storygraph has The Stand as my longest book, but Goodreads has The Ink Black Heart. Both were overly long, but overall I think The Stand warranted the epic length more.
I‘m planning to tackle this chunkster in 2023! I‘ve marked off ~100 page chunks which will help me hit goals each month to keep progress. Of course, if I‘m all about it, the markers are merely suggestions.
A masterpiece of horror and fantasy. Eerily prescient and provocatively confident. There‘s a good reason why many believe this is King‘s best book.

Who‘s in for #pop23 ??? I‘ve been reading over the list and decided to choose some of the prompts in advance that are either harder to fill or that I really want to read. The rest I‘ll just fill in as I go throughout the year. Also, I‘m really looking forward to reading The Stand 😂 Let us know if you‘d like to be tagged in ‘23! Everyone is welcome to play along! https://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/reading-challenge-2023-49013480/amp
Did I need a third copy of The Stand? No. Well. Maybe. But when there are no more hardcover versions available anymore, and it‘s so pretty, and it‘s got gold edges on the pages and the endpapers have nuclear symbols all over it, you just gotta buy it 🤷🏻♀️ besides, one of my original copies is destroyed so I really only have two copies. The #losersclub gets it 🤣🎈
There's a reason many readers of King list The Stand as their favorite - it's an incredible book. The way King weaves so many disparate threads into an apocalyptic tapestry is masterful, and his ability to make you care for a plethora of characters is put to excellent use here. From the first inkling that something in the machinations of man has gone awry to the final sobering ruminations on our ultimate nature, this is a truly riveting read. 5/5
Well I‘m glad I read this after the pandemic! This was such an oddly creepy read with such and eclectic cast of characters. SK‘s world building is mind blowing. #chunkster #bookspin #TeamMonsterMash #Scaralthon @TheAromaofBooks @StayCurious
Gotta admit I'm a wee bit #scared of this book. Not so much the topic as much as the sheer size 🤣🤣. I can almost guarantee I won't finish it this month, but I'm definitely keeping it on my #bookspinbingo card/list.

First time in Barnes and Noble in a really long time. Oops 🤷🏼♀️
The biggest #killer in The Stand was the virus. This book is in my top 10 favorites of all time. As you can probably tell from my copy's state, I've read it quite a few times. I could get a new one, I guess, but I kind of love that you can see from the cracks and loose pages how loved this book has been.

I finally finished my Q3 #chunksterchallenge2022 pick! ✔️
I love Stephen King; he writes characters so well (including Kojak aka Big Steve) and I love how minor characters pop back up in Book 3. This won‘t be my favorite by him, but I really did enjoy it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEPHEN KING! 🎈🎈🎈
Thanks for being such an amazing author, and one of my all time favorites! His books mean so much to me, I have a hard time putting it into words! 💕📚💕
This is just the books I have physical copies off. Not counting my kindle pile. Can‘t wait to get started! Oct 1 can‘t arrive fast enough. #scarathon #teammonstermash @StayCurious
Finishing this summer‘s King took much longer than expected, but that‘s because I picked the chunkiest one. While I truly enjoyed the epic scope of the story, the nods to LotR and King‘s trademark omniscient narrator, the plot pacing seemed somewhat uneven, with some segments dragging on forever and others not fully fleshed out. Still, I‘m very happy I got this one off my list. Time to move on to something more compact.
September #bookspinbingo list. I am a little rusty. I have taken off the summer to move. Way behind in The Stand for my #chunkster challenge, but hoping to catch up now that things have settled down a little.

I was really excited for 'K' because I love posting about one of my favorite contemporary authors of all time - Stephen King! 💕📚💕 His new book is coming out in less than a month but it feels like forever because I am so excited for it!
I‘m starting this later than I hoped, but here goes: my 3rd Quarter #chunksterchallenge2022 pick! Hoping to read 20-25 pages per day.
@Amiable
I tried, I really really tried to push through but I'm done having only managed to reach the end of book one (unabridged version). Honestly? It's a shit lit version of the 90s shock jock; just gross.
And before I'm accused of being sensitive or just not "getting" his work, I absolutely loved The Green Mile.
I've been having a hard time reading anything that isn't an audiobook lately so if I can (finally) complete Rage and make a start on The Stand I will be happy 😊

@Andrew65
A haunting read! I sat up all night finishing this book. Once I got to the last third I couldn't put it down.
The book is large and slow going in places. I stopped reading it a couple of times to read other books, but I couldn't get it out of my head so I went back to it. Living through the pandemic, I have to say, he was spot on with many things when he wrote this in 1978.
💠 I‘m reading tagged books because it‘s a wonderfully stormy day and it‘s one of my favorite cozy reads.
💠 I‘m reading the ebook currently but I am also reading the physical version as well. Depends on where I am. 😊😊
💠 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
💠 I would love to do that! I generally don‘t because I lose myself in the book and don‘t think of it.
Thanks again @BethM

This outloud reread of The Stand with my spouse was the best reading ever of one of my favorite books, because he LOVES dogs. So throughout all the bits with Kojak, he was shouting out “What a good boy!“ and it was everything about why I married him. 💖
Controversial opinion incoming 🚨
To preface, I 100% understand why this book is considered King‘s masterpiece. I don‘t know if it was just overhyped to me, but it just did not live up to expectations. I think it represents all the best and worst in King‘s writing. It is an epic story (in both premise and length), but ultimately the length feels like it does a disservice to the story and its characters. More thoughts below, spoilers hidden 👇🏼
Is April the month I finally finish The Stand? I finally broke past 50% and am making lots of progress the past week.
Heads up: my final review will probably be an #unpopularopinion 🤫
After the superflu wipes out most of the population, a battle of good versus evil takes over the country.
Definitely worth the 48 hours of listening. I‘m beginning to consider myself a Stephen King fan.
WTF Stephen King, why are these chapters SO long?!
Does explain how I could be on chapter 43/78 and still not have hit 50% progress…
So long and so many characters it was sometimes hard to keep track but really good just wish it was suspenseful the entire time

Day 182.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
There are times when I feel uppity and swear Stephen King isn‘t that talented of a writer. Then I pick up a book like The Stand and am humbled by King‘s ability to tell a really great story. His characters are real. The settings are real. The emotions are real. I found myself wanting to stay up way past my bedtime to finish a few more pages. Was this the best choice to read during a pandemic? Yes. I think so. It puts it all into perspective.
My boyfriend has been challenging me to read this since the pandemic started, and I‘ve finally succumbed.
Listening to Stephen King audiobooks has become a couple activity for us whenever we go on a road trip. We‘ve done It, The Outsider, 11/22/63, and Salem‘s Lot.
This is considered King‘s masterpiece, and it is the longest one I‘ve read yet. These first chapters sure are eerie now that we‘ve experienced the onset of a pandemic.
My third and fourth King books, both about pandemic-like events. Can you tell it‘s been on my mind more lately? Is it safe to go “back to normal life” yet? 😷
So sorry I forgot to post this earlier, Erika! You deserve your kudos for bringing this chunkster to its knees. :)
Way to go!

4✨ The biggest challenge in writing a review for a beast of a book is where to start. There is 3 books in this 1000+ page read. The first is set to talk about a super flu that wipes out just about everyone. Some characters are in the story long enough for King to state: “No great loss.” I mean wow to be written in just to get that brush off? In book 2 we see there is two sides the God side and the Flagg side who is basically the dark one.⬇️
Fantastic book! I loved reading about a pandemic in a pandemic. I‘m glad I didn‘t get a cold or flu whilst reading this! 😬
5🌟 I finished this monster of a book, and I am so happy I have finally read it. It has definitely crept up into one of my favorite of King's books, and probably just one of my favorite books in general. Reading it alongside my re-read of the Dark Tower books has been an eye-opening treat as well.

This book has been on my #TBR since I first started exploring Stephen King‘s writing a few years ago. This is my boyfriend‘s favorite King novel, and he has been bugging me to read it for awhile, especially since the beginning of COVID. It‘s my goal to start and finish this before the end of the year. Content and length-wise, it‘s rather intimidating, which is why I‘ve been putting it off.
