As someone who recently get back into therapy I kind of understand if someone uses this place for escape. But the very existence and ability to read is a political act so nothing on here is outside of politics. 1mo

PuddleJumper There's no shame in wanting a positive place away from the chaos but you curate that. You follow people that post things like that and unfollow people that don't. If other people want to use the platform to share information then they can. As many people said, reading itself is political and a reading platform may have people that want to engage rather than regurgitate propaganda. 1mo

Thinking that politics is simply something that happens “out there somewhere” and we can glide through the world not paying attention, frankly, is one of the reasons we got into this mess in the first place. The button to “follow“ her was now there (where I had been following her for years). When I went to look at her page, it was completely blank to me. When you are blocked, you can't see ANYTHING of theirs. Ever. I even posted something a while back, saying I'd use the words “#ranttime“ when I posted something political and that people who didn't want to see it could just block the hashtag. I guess that wasn't enough. 😕 1mo

dabbe @Susanita I think she really wanted to send me a message. If you “unfollow“, a person can still see your feed. She wanted to make a clear divide. And, in a way, I think that's also what's wrong in our country. Too many clear divides being made. 🫤 1mo

JamieArc I saw someone else recently who was pretty prominent on Litsy leave because they didn‘t want to see political posts and thought we should only be posting about books and reading. But this is a community and we get to know each other and want to know about their lives. Personally, I feel safer knowing where those I interact with stand and can be my whole self. Roary47 Wait…what? Sometimes I worry my very inquisitive son does things on accident for me when stealing my phone. I agree with @CBee we all have our opinions, and you can keep scrolling and still enjoy common books together at later times. I understand wanting a positive scrolling experience when for many if not all of us reading is a release, but you can unfollow someone and not read their posts anymore. 🤷‍♀️ Or like you said @dabbe block the hashtags 1mo

rwmg I really don't see the problem. I have a look at some posts on somebody's homepage and some of their books before I decide whether or not to follow them. This makes me sad. I can understand unfollowing someone or blocking a hashtag if you prefer not to see certain posts, especially for mental health/stress/anxiety reasons. (Just like sometimes I can‘t even watch the news so I turn it off.) But totally blocking⬇️ 1mo

Some folks have shared that they are unhappy with Litsy not being as book-focused and happy as before. As many of you know, I, for one, have found it difficult to be Pollyanna Positive when the world seems to be crashing down upon us. I don‘t use any social media except Litsy, and some days I do need to rant—not just about politics but about life‘s annoyances and sufferings, and sharing human angst with my Litten friends really does help. ⬇️

dabbe From now one, though, I will use the hashtag #ranttime on any of my bigger rant posts, so if you don‘t want to ever hear me rant again, please block that hashtag, and you won‘t get my gripes, especially about the hell-weather that is Phoenix! 😂 If that‘s not sufficient enough and you need to unfollow me, please do so. I do not mean to offend anyone, but I can‘t pretend that the world is perfect either. ⬇️ 5mo

dabbe ALL of us post about sadness, anger, hurt, etc. I think it‘s just the politics that have quite a few of us enraged. If others want to join me and use the same hashtag, that might alleviate some of our angst on all sides. And thank you to anyone who took the time to read this. 🩶💚🩶

Nowadays, it feels like we offend someone every time we speak. AnnCrystal I'm good with variety posts too...of course, I'm rather new here on Litsy (when compared to many Littens) and only know the Litsy as it has been since my joining this magical community.

I find Litsy a safe place, a gathering place that serves a community of members like a mom and pop bookstore. We recognize one another if we visit often. We learn about one another, celebrate each other, offer emotional support, etc.

Hooked_on_books I don‘t think that‘s a necessary action, but it‘s kind of you to do. I feel reading is resistance and political and don‘t mind at all. When people post a lot about their personal lives instead of books, I just tend not to follow them. It‘s so easy to unfollow someone if their content isn‘t to one‘s liking. It‘s too bad people feel the need to rant about what others write. When it‘s your own account, I say write whatever you want/need. 5mo

I‘ve gotten a lot of points this week just from doing the #wordsearch for #hauntedshelf, counting the 1 hour of reading for the #noplacelikeholmes readalong and counting the spooky or autumn reads. It‘s a lot to track and keep up with and I‘m also reading Netgalley ARCs. During #scarathlon last year, using the Autofill feature saved me a lot of time when I was filling in my spreadsheet all month so I‘m definitely using Autofill again.

I‘m participating in #spookoween hosted by @TheSpineView and the #hauntedshelf hosted by @PuddleJumper this month. I‘m on team #skeletoncrew. I have 67 Netgalley ARCs to read and I‘ll try to read as many of those as I can and try to earn points for my team by doing the word search like I did during #scarathlon. I‘m participating in the #noplacelikeholmes readalong and the #whimsicalreadsbookclub so I have a lot going on this month with reading.

Hi, I didn't see an answer to this question on the FAQ page:
Can a book count for multiple spots on the same BINGO card? For example, if I read a book and on the AFTER DARK card it has magic, a monster, a summoning, and includes fate, can I mark four spots with that one book? We could do that on #Scarathlon, but I'm just double-checking for this year. Thanks. 🎃

Jadams89 I think it depends on if the maker of the Bingo states that they only apply for one. I didn‘t for #ItsATrope, so it works for me if you use the same book for multiple prompts. 10mo

PuddleJumper It's personal preference for all my boards/challenges. You can double dip if you want. You know how many books you can realistically read, I don't want to put people off playing because they think they need to read 25 books 10mo

My #Recommendation for #HauntedShelf is Slewfoot. I read it last year for #Scarathlon & really enjoyed the dark tale of Abitha, who is fighting against the puritanical community she married into when she meets Samon/Slewfoot the newly awakened devil. Very atmospheric & perfect for the spooky season. 🍁🪄🌘
