I wish CH would write more thrillers because I finished this in one sitting. Just when you think you know where the story is going, you get a curveball thrown at you. And usually I don‘t like when the ending is left wide open for interpretation, but it works so well here. I am definitely team manuscript #iykyk

Literally read this in a 24hr period. I loved all of it and will probably read it again before the end of the year. Since this is the 13th book in the series it‘s difficult to talk about in a non-spoiler way. But if you‘re looking for a gateway book into autumnal feels this year, this would be a great way to kick off the pumpkin spice season!

iread2much I love this series! 1mo

Chapter 2: a new servant! And Lydia, as always, is… well…. Lydia #IYKYK #Lydiaisabrat #poorMrsHill #pemberlittens #chapteraday #shortchapter

Vansa I love that the Napoleonic Wars are directly mentioned, unlike in Austen- in typical rather self centred fashion, though, only in how it affects the Bennett's directly! And well, I guess that's only human!Such visceral descriptions of their work 3mo
BarkingMadRun @Vansa yes! I noticed that right away, Jane Austen rarely mentioned anything historical, possibly never lol 3mo

Bklover I didn‘t catch that but how interesting! @Vansa 3mo
Bklover Lydia‘s dear mother is an asshat! Poor Mrs Hill and Mr Hill. I don‘t think I could have kept my mouth shut. 3mo
i.besteph Hi, I‘d like to read along with you as well. Can you please tag me in future posts? 3mo
Vansa @Bklover she is, but it's not very different from how people in India treat domestic help. In 2022. Quite interesting for me to read ! 3mo
BarkingMadRun @i.besteph absolutely! 3mo
Bklover @Vansa That‘s awful! I didn‘t know that. 3mo
Sparklemn @Bklover I don‘t think I could have stayed quiet, either. The servants are invisible unless they say something under their breathe. 3mo
CoffeeNBooks Oh, Lydia. *sigh* Mrs. Hill seems used to Lydia's comments, and tries not to take any offense to them. Could the new manservant be the scotchman Sarah thought she saw? 3mo

Though I kind of slogged through the first half, I enjoyed the last half alot. I liked the representation of Muslim girls living their lives in friendship and relationships and the pressures of all that. And the 4th star is reinforced by the last line of the acknowledgments. #iykyk

eeclayton I missed a few days but am completely caught up now. I want to say two things: (1) I still don't understand what Helen sees in Gilbert, (2) wtf, Helen? 😕 4mo
BarkingMadRun @eeclayton I know! Sadly, Gilbert is a step up 🤣🤣 4mo

“And love may be terrible for heart health sometimes, but the absence of it can be just as bad.”
Very cute story - with the exception to the references to “Charlie” which were exceptionally cringeworthy #iykyk 🤷🏽‍♀️

This is not a horror novel, in my opinion. So you need to let that idea go. You're going to have to stick with this one. It's confusing & complicated. It feels unrelated & disjointed. Don't give up!! I wanted to & I am so glad that I didn't. Read the afterword ONLY after you have finished the book. The author devoted so much time & attention to getting this right. Also, Hal is a HUGE fan of Olivia. #catsoflitsy #catsy #teamblackcat #iykyk

dragondrool I completely agree with you. It's pitched heavily as a horror novel, and seems to be one at the start, but by the end is it just not at all. 10mo

Fell behind on #Pemberlittens chapter a day reading, but finished today & caught up on everyone's summaries/posts.

This was a new Austen for me! It was a solid 4⭐ until... The Letter™. #iykyk

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

@sprainedbrain Thank you, Jenni! This has been a fabulous ride through Jane's novels. Mercy, if only she had lived longer.

sprainedbrain Yes, THAT LETTER. 🥰 Thank YOU for being such a great part of Pemberlittens! 13mo
