Late Last Nightand the Night Before " Tommyknockers, tommyknockers, knocking at the door." Something was happening in Bobbi Anderson s idyllic small town of Haven, Maine. Something that gave every man, woman, and child in town powers far beyond ordinary mortals. Something that turned the town into a death trap for all outsiders. Something that came from a metal object, buried for millennia, that Bobbi stumbled across. It wasn t that Bobbi and the other good folks of Haven had sold their souls to reap the rewards of the most deadly evil this side of hell. It was more like a diabolical takeover and invasion of body and soul and mind."

Some might consider this book longer than it needed to be to tell it's story, but I loved every page.

BekahB I felt the same way when I read King‘s It. Did the book need to be that long? Probably not. But I still enjoyed the extra side stories/details. 9mo

Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers, knocking at your door. 👽 I really enjoyed this story that starts with Bobbi stumbling over an object buried in her woods. She enlists the help of her sometime lover, Gard, to dig it up. In true King fashion, the town of Haven is impacted by their discovery. We meet lots of interesting characters. Overall a great sci-fi story. #MountTBR

Stephen King's classic Scifi novel. The residents of Haven fall under the spell of a mysterious object in the woods, okay its aliens & they're screwed. The only one who can stop them is Gard, an alcoholic poet, with a metal plate in his head which makes him slower to be affected. This was just a good, creepy novel with nods to It & The Dead Zone.

I‘ve learned that my ability to enjoy and focus on audiobooks depends entirely in the narrator. I just started listening to this narrated by Edward Herrmann. It feels like Richard Gilmore is telling me a story while dropping a bunch of F-bombs. This photo is from last night. I‘m about two hours in now. Listening to this in my car while reading Little Women at home.

I don‘t have much of a preference. The almost single exception is King. I even went so far as to join the Stephen King Book Club in high school so I could replace my paperbacks with hardcovers! This is a random selection because everything is as scattered as my head at the moment but there are hardcovers for each of those mm copies kicking around somewhere in my mess of a house!

The biggest issue I had was there were too many characters who were unnecessary to the plot. I will say that what King did very well was create an absolutely terrifying atmosphere. The fact that you don't really know what is going on for most of the book makes it even more frightening. This not a horror book by any means, but it has the feel of one. That's really all I have to say that's positive. I don't recommend it. It's 2 out of 5 stars.

I first read this book at a reeeeally young age. Like...way to young to be reading it kind of age. I don't think I grasped all of it completely but I do know I went to bed, every single night I was reading it, very #afraid of the shadows in my room and all the things I couldn't see properly in the dark; And I loved that about it. I've been a fan of scary things and freaking myself out ever since. 😊

A King book I've not read yet, probably due to King himself saying "It's an awful book." ?

Released in 1987, which was during the time he was using cocaine during his writing; he rambled on too much resulting in this particular book being too long.

I'll get to it at some point. The story does sound interesting and my cuppa tea.

The fox bookmark given to me by my gf @meghan2714 too. ?

Most of my Stephen Kings I've retired from reading because they're so fragile, and there's a few of my Wheel Of Time books that are in the same condition. By far, my #leastfavoritebook by Stephen King. I finished it, but these days I wouldn't. I heard he wrote this at the depths of his alcoholism; others say that his agent/publishers knew it was bad but could sell anything with his name on it; an old boyfriend expanded that idea to posit that King didn't write this - he let his wife or kid put his name on it. After reading Under the Dome, I just think he doesn't do aliens well.

Mariposa_Bookworm Maybe it was because I was young and impressionable, but The Tommyknockers was what began my love of Stephen King. It's not my favorite, and to me it's not the worst Black House totally is) but it will always be special. 5y

DeborahSmall @Suzze I think the story just didn't age well. I can imagine my friend being scared 25 years ago but reading it as a 39 yr old I thought it was joke, I actually came to the conclusion that if it hadn't been written by King it would have been binned by publishers 5y
TrishB Not the best King book! 5y
Sweettartlaura This is his WORST book by far. I read it shortly after it came out & it sucked then, too. My BF at the time theorized he didn't write it - he let someone else write (family member, most likely) and put his name on it just to see if it would sell. Don't let this discourage you from his others - you're missing out, I promise. 5y
