Not my favorite but definitely not the worst one of his I have read...yet. The one thing that really saved it for me was all of the easter eggs to his other works. It is always fun stumbling across them and as I read more of his work I am finding more of them scattered throughout. The King Universe strikes again!!
Ok let's see how Stephen King tackles aliens 🤔👽. Basically going into this book blind but I have heard it isn't one of his better books so I don't really have high hopes.
I've been reading through the bestselling books in the US of each year, and this it for 1987. I understand it's one of King's less-liked books but I found it better than I expected. Yes, it's bloated, rambly, and repetitive but that's how I feel about most of King's books. Yes it's deeply cynical but that feels more honest to me than, say, the Lake-Wobegonnish nostalgia of "It." Still not a King fan, but this could have been a lot worse.
For want of a nail the kingdom was lost -- that's how the catechism goes when you boil it down.

This is not a well-loved entry in King's canon. Not by fans, and certainly not by King. Written at the peak of King's substance abusing days of excess, The Tommyknockers is tremendously overlong, and perhaps more cruel than it should be. Despite that, I've always loved it, in part for the depiction of an entire town's descent into madness, and in part for its unique take on an alien race and their methods of planetary takeover. 4/5
This is a reminder I receive on a near daily basis, and while it certainly is instructive, I would prefer the reminder to occur with less frequency.
DNF-I tried, but I‘m just not interested. It is weird, the characters are okay. I‘m not a fan of Gard though. I got 75% through it and understood what I was reading in a semi-focused way, but struggled with even wanting to find out what happened. I decided to DNF and try something else.
I‘m not sure I‘m following this audiobook very well. However, I did do tie dye with my kids for #LitsyCrafters “Retro” 🥰💛
Not sure I completely understand what is going on in the tagged, or I‘m figuring it is aliens so I‘m blanking out to protect myself from a phobia. Either way… my kiddos and I did some tie dying for #LitsyCrafters “retro”. They had a lot of fun and get to wear their shirts tomorrow. @Catsandbooks
🎧 I liked this book much more than I thought I would. Mr King should bring on some more alien weirdness!! 😁 It was a little long but I enjoyed it!
It‘s set in an idyllic town in Maine called Haven. Bobbi, a writer comes across a buried spaceship and curiosity got the best of her.
So good!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Been in such a slump because of this book.
I just couldn't get into it. I never connected with any of the characters, which is a first for a King novel I've read.
I think it's good going though because this is my 61st King book and I've only disliked this and Revival.
Two stars might seem harsh but compared to King's other works, I think The Tommyknockers is well below par.
Even Stephen King himself agrees that this book is trash so...
Some might consider this book longer than it needed to be to tell it's story, but I loved every page.

Oh man, are there books that I started at the beginning of the year? Yeah... that and other questions answers during the End of Year Book Tag!

Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers, knocking at your door. 👽 I really enjoyed this story that starts with Bobbi stumbling over an object buried in her woods. She enlists the help of her sometime lover, Gard, to dig it up. In true King fashion, the town of Haven is impacted by their discovery. We meet lots of interesting characters. Overall a great sci-fi story. #MountTBR
Do you listen to music while reading? Or prefer silence? I like music with no lyrics to read to.

Stephen King's classic Scifi novel. The residents of Haven fall under the spell of a mysterious object in the woods, okay its aliens & they're screwed. The only one who can stop them is Gard, an alcoholic poet, with a metal plate in his head which makes him slower to be affected. This was just a good, creepy novel with nods to It & The Dead Zone.

#popularintheyearyouwereborn . Very fitting since I listened to some of my Stephen king book today (11/22/63). Here are some more popular in 1987. #auldlangreads #bestsellersin87
I‘ve learned that my ability to enjoy and focus on audiobooks depends entirely in the narrator. I just started listening to this narrated by Edward Herrmann. It feels like Richard Gilmore is telling me a story while dropping a bunch of F-bombs. This photo is from last night. I‘m about two hours in now. Listening to this in my car while reading Little Women at home.

Watching Stephen Kings tommyknockers while making chili and cornbread........
#teamslaughter #scarathon #scareymovie @Clwojick
One of the best King books out there. As with most of his books, it has a weird vibe. Rather reminiscent of his later Needful Things.
3 ⭐⭐⭐ Not my fave King but ok. Feels like it could have been cut in half. I also never got the feel for a true protagonist or someone to root for. Still entertaining though.
#audiopuzzling this afternoon listening to tagged book 😃
I don‘t have much of a preference. The almost single exception is King. I even went so far as to join the Stephen King Book Club in high school so I could replace my paperbacks with hardcovers! This is a random selection because everything is as scattered as my head at the moment but there are hardcovers for each of those mm copies kicking around somewhere in my mess of a house!

1. System down at work today so I got to read for 7hrs and get paid for it! 😋
2. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
3. Don't knoew. Don't care. What? 😂
4. Tagged... It's my favorite Stephen King book. 💓 👽
5. @Hooked_on_books @readordierachel
The biggest issue I had was there were too many characters who were unnecessary to the plot. I will say that what King did very well was create an absolutely terrifying atmosphere. The fact that you don't really know what is going on for most of the book makes it even more frightening. This not a horror book by any means, but it has the feel of one. That's really all I have to say that's positive. I don't recommend it. It's 2 out of 5 stars.
Graphite drawing of Stephen King, what do you think?

...when I was twenty-five I burned all the time. When I was thirty, I burned some of the time. But the oxygen in here must be getting thin, because now I only burn when I‘m drunk. I‘m scared to climb up on that horse[...]If history ever taught me anything, it taught me that horses like to bolt.
I don‘t mean that creative people are somehow finer, or more sensitive, and thus have finer, more sensitive nervous breakdowns...It‘s just that creative people have creative breakdowns.

@Clwojick
I first read this book at a reeeeally young age. Like...way to young to be reading it kind of age. I don't think I grasped all of it completely but I do know I went to bed, every single night I was reading it, very #afraid of the shadows in my room and all the things I couldn't see properly in the dark; And I loved that about it. I've been a fan of scary things and freaking myself out ever since. 😊
A King book I've not read yet, probably due to King himself saying "It's an awful book." ?
Released in 1987, which was during the time he was using cocaine during his writing; he rambled on too much resulting in this particular book being too long.
I'll get to it at some point. The story does sound interesting and my cuppa tea.
The fox bookmark given to me by my gf @meghan2714 too. ?

G is for Gard, who comes to town to visit his friend and finds some “weird shit” (to quote a former president).
A lot of people don‘t like The Tommyknockers. It‘s been years since I read it, but I remember liking it back in the day. I‘m sure I read it multiple times. I look forward to revisiting during my constantly stalled #chronologicalkingread.
#NuYear #Prayingtothealiens this is the only book I‘ve ever read with aliens. It is probably the worst book I‘ve ever read to the very end. It came highly recommended and I was convinced it would get better but a pile of shite! 💩
About halfway through. I keep falling asleep!
#Riotgrams #day23 #ChillsAndThrills When I'm after a chilling and thrilling read, Stephen King is the author I reach for. Whether he's writing about pet cemeteries, hauntings, aliens, rabid dogs or vampires, he manages to inject enough of reality to make it believable enough to make your skin crawl. Freaks, geeks and ghouls.
Here's my #5fordinner guest list.
1. Stephen King
2. Douglas Adams
3. JK Rowling
4. Jeri Smith-Ready
5. Dean Koontz
Could easily make it a bigger event and invite more. That certainly wouldn't be a problem. 😹
