Ninefox Gambit | Yoon Ha Lee

Tackling this series as the final book in the trio is nominated for Hugo best novel this year. It‘s the last of the novels I need to read before voting so have to get through this whole series before month end.

Really enjoyed this alternate history of the beginnings of the space program, in this telling expedited because of a meteorite strike in the DC area that is an extinction event. Deals with discrimination (gender and racial) in the space program and the role of female “computer” mathematicians in making spaceflight possible. #hugoawards2019

Finished. Two more to go so that I can vote for #hugoawards2019 best novel. I liked this one...but feel like I‘d need to read a few more times to get everything out of it.

ChasingOm I‘ve got REVENANT GUN and SPINNING SILVER left. I just got SS from the library, so I‘m close! 6d
Carolyn11215 @ChasingOm have you read the first two in the revenant series? Trying to decide whether I have to read them first to give Revenant Gun a fair shake. 6d
ChasingOm I haven‘t, and that‘s why I haven‘t gotten to that one yet. 😂 Also, I‘m not sure the premise really interests me, although reading through the Hugos has surprised me with some great reads that I wouldn‘t have picked up otherwise. 6d

I am heartbroken to discover that Alice Steinbach passed away in 2012. She was so full of life and wit and charm as exemplified by this travel memoir. I would have loved to meet her for a cup of coffee to hear more about her experiences in Paris, Kyoto, Cuba, Scotland, England and Prague. She and her curiosity are an inspiration to me!

3 ⭐️. I enjoyed this novel about Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton agent, and her role as a Pinkerton spy during the Civil War. 3 stars because the writing felt a little lackluster to me...but I‘ve been spoiled by other creatively interpreted historical fiction like Girl Waits with Gun and I Was Anastasia recently. #lmpbc @Kappadeemom I‘ll have this in the mail to you shortly.

OMG...this book! 5 ⭐️ !! It‘s a beautifully written book about the relationship between three siblings who are torn apart as children and reunited as adults by traumas. The story is told through the perspective of the youngest sibling, Jules. The characters are amazing and the book has an alternately heartwarming/heartbreaking plot.

Carolyn11215 Goodreads describes as “a kaleidoscopic family saga told through the fractured lives of the 3 Moreau siblings alongside a faltering, recovering love story.” 3mo

Incredible book about Anna Anderson‘s battle to be legally recognized as Anastasia Romanov. The structure of the book is fascinating. Last 18 months of Romanov family‘s life is relayed chronologically while Anna Anderson‘s battle to be accepted as Anastasia is explored in reverse (from end to beginning). The two stories are interweaved throughout the book.
