Perfect example of telling and not showing. Huge exposition dumps and I find all the characters unlikable.

I do have a soft spot for these books. I love them. This one deals w a couple, one of which has amnesia and how they come back together.

Great range of feelings and emotions. Some triggers for SA and the audio narration was wonderful.

Sophronisba I really need to read this one. 6d
Samary @Sophronisba a lot it people love Peach Cobbler, but my fave story was Dear Sister. I hope you like it!! 6d

Book mail arrived! I‘ve been getting into reading more short story collections, and this one is interweaving tales of friendship and coming of age!

ALL the trigger warnings, for kids and adults. This was a difficult, yet fascinating read. I‘m so happy the author found the strength to tell her story.
I find cults fascinating and will read tell-alls and escape memoirs as often as I can.

I did really like this, wonderfully written and the audiobook narrator was great. I will say it is a bit overhyped so if you‘re looking to pick it up manage expectations.

This was cute, sickly sweet at the end to the point I kinda wanted to gag lol. There is a level of “c‘mon, that would never happen” you have to ignore but it‘s a romcom and I think we‘re mostly pretty good at doing that. I love books w food in them and I was definitely in this one more for the food than the romance.

Yes yes and yes! A modern slasher with a classic feel in a book. I didn‘t know I was craving this until I was reading it. Sure I called the killer early but that did NOT ruin my enjoyment of this! What a fun and brutal ride.

I find Kaz insufferable, but I do enjoy how consistent Bardugo is with her characters. They are distinct and their choices make sense for that individual.

elkeOriginal I agree, Kaz was not a favorite 😒 1mo

Absolutely beautifully written, highly recommend the audiobook as the pronunciations can be tough and she does a wonderful job narrating.

Lots of good and sad information. This made me angry, as intended, the sexism, racism and classism… 😳😳😵‍💫… I recommend the audiobook!

I was massively excited for this book and it started off really strong for me, then it took a hard turn toward the negative. It was ok, I‘d be curious to read more work from this author, the concepts are really fascinating but I‘m not sold on execution.

I love the straight forward nature of this book, bad behavior = consequences. I was able to call the twists before they happened but that did not lessen my enjoyment!

I liked the way this was written, I think this suffered from the hype train and I was a little let down because of that. Nothing groundbreaking but I am very happy that it was creepy!

I very much enjoyed this, you can see the Atwood inspirations for the world setting all over. It could get a little repetitive at times but overall good book. I‘m excited to read the next in the series!

Lots of tell, don‘t show but that was the style when it was written so I can‘t be that mad. There is a lot to take away from the story though getting through it is a bit of a slog.

There were some dips in the story for me, fell into the “tell don‘t show” category but I still loved reading about this strong and fierce frontier woman!

I would LOVE some historical fiction recommendations centered around the American frontier and gold rush time period.
Bonus points for a woman‘s perspective and has the movie Maverick vibes.
I have read The Revenant, currently reading A Betting Woman and loving it.

Aaahhh!! I really liked this. Now, I‘m a consumer of a LOT of horror, so I did call all the twists and turns early. It didn‘t diminish my enjoyment however.
I will be reading more from this author 🤡

Oof, I really fell for the hype on this one. A grimy Romeo and Juliet retelling. I think pulling this out of YA and make it adult, more grimy, longer history between R&J would have been much better for me.
I was overall pretty bored. However, the narrator was great!

JazzFeathers I still have to see a pick for this one 😟 Which is a shame, because the premise is so interesting. 5mo
Samary @JazzFeathers the concept is good! I just wish they took it out of the YA sector and really pushed it in the horror and emotional departments. 5mo
