Went on a bit of a shopping spree on book depository. I have more coming in from a couple indies that I love too... I'm very excited for all of these!!

Side note for people doing swaps- stick a Post-It in your books saying who sent them to you and what swap it was for! I've had so many instances of wanting to shout people out (like whoever here got me hooked on Death Note), but by the time I read them, I can't remember who sent them!

I got a slightly cryptic email from #BarnesandNoble with little information but a tempting, enticing message about #TBRlists being long, the upcoming #bookhaul being short, and the countdown beginning.

All I could find online were news articles about last year's August blowout sale...

And if this one is anything like that one, it'll be quite a treat!

Ashley_Nicoletto I asked the girl working the register when I was in the store on Friday about it. She said they will be pulling hundred of books (not the bargain books just normal books off the shelves) and putting them on tables in the front and they will all be half off. Members get to start shopping them on Tuesday. Everyone else Wednesday. 5y

I‘ve been doing pretty good about not buying books but I had a free book on thriftbooks and needed to finish up a couple series that were available on book outlet. I feel a wee bit guilty 😬 but I‘m also excited for books! 😅

LibrarianRyan I join you in your guilt. I have 20+ books coming from the book outlet sale. Then there was the one week only 50% off sale at BN. Yep that was 6 it was it 7 more books. Yikes. I just couldn‘t help myself. Some are for swaps so that helps me feel better. 6y

I am on a strict Big Bad Book Buying Ban and maaaaan I keep finding wonderful books to buy.

The one yanking my chain the most now is the wonderful special edition of Summer In Orcus by T. Kingfisher. For some reason the book does not show up here..

My Big Bad Book Buying Ban ends up at the end of June and hoo boy do I have books lined up. There are some real gems to be published soon!

Hi, my name is Holly and I have a problem. I can't stop buying books.
Originally, I was planning a book buying ban for February. Instead, that somehow morphed into me buying an obscene amount of books.
March is shaping up to be a long month, since I am determined once again to not buy any more books.

elkeOriginal It‘s like eating chocolate - if you ban yourself completely then you will lose your mind and then binge like a crazy person. Cut back, but not completely. Think for a minute. It helps. 6y

TheLibrarian So I originally was going to do a ban but decided I was setting myself up for failure. Instead, I‘m limiting myself to only a certain amount of books/spending less money than the previous year. 6y

2BR02B @CSeydel I do the same- libraries all the way. I also ask myself tough questions: am I likely to read this anytime soon, or will it just be collecting dust for the foreseeable future? Is it a deal I'm unlikely to find again? If it checks out, like if it's a book club pick I'm reading soon that I can't get from the library, I allow myself to buy it. 6y

2BR02B I also find that most of my personal library is unread books- I rarely reread, and often get rid of books I've already read. So I'll do things like reading samples of books on Amazon before I commit to buying them, in an effort to buy fewer books I'm going to end up giving 1- or 2-star ratings, or DNFing altogether. 6y

CSeydel @2BR02B Exactly! I‘ve bought more books this year than usual because 1: our book club keeps picking brand-new books that have like 138 holds at the library, so I have to buy them, and 2: I got the Kindle app on my phone and I can‘t resist a 1.99 deal for a book that‘s already in my TBR! 6y

2BR02B @CSeydel Those kindle deals just bomb my otherwise-sensible approach to book buying. I had to unsubscribe from all the deals emails I was getting once I realized I had nearly 1000 unread kindle books... 6y

Hooked_on_books I don‘t believe bans work for people like us. What I‘m trying to do this year is read more of my own books than the number of new books I acquire. I don‘t know if it‘s going to work yet, but I did really well in January. I used a couple of Christmas gift cards in February, so that has skewed my numbers a bit. 6y

I've purchased SEVENTEEN books in January 2018. Most of them were cheap Kindle deals (my Kryptonite). Two physical books at full price, and two digital that were over $5. We're not off to a good start on this controlling the book-buying thing. 🙃🙈

Posting it on here in the hopes that cone-of-shaming myself might curb the February purchases. We'll see.
