Yesterday I stood on my Kindle.

Now it is just pens.

Cannot reset. Cannot use touch screen.

Just pens 😢😢

Patchshank Try holding down the power button until it shuts off. Might take awhile. Maybe let the battery die and see what happens? Do they have one of those small reset buttons that you need a paperclip for? I don't think they do, but i can't remember. 2mo

julesG Would recommend trying the shut down and restart, what @Patchshank and @Bookwomble already recommended. You need to press down on the button for ages - 30 seconds or thereabout. If all that doesn't work, you might trade in the Kindle for a new one. Might only be £10-20 off, but that's better than nothing. Also, do you have some sort of insurance policy for household gadgets that might cover it? 2mo

I‘m curious as to what my paperwhite littens think about their paperwhite. I‘ve currently got the Voyager, which I‘ve had since it came out, and I absolutely love it!! I‘m hesitant to upgrade but I need the extra space that the paperwhite offers. (Not to mention it‘s WATERPROOF!) If y‘all could help a girl decide if she wants to upgrade, I‘d very much appreciate it! #Kindle #PaperwhiteVsVoyager #HELP

jillrhudy My Paperwhite is six years old and still does the job for me but I don‘t have a massive number of books on it. I spent $79 on the one with the backlight which is probably the equivalent of an ordinary Kindle now. 4y

TiredLibrarian I have a Paperwhite that I got for Christmas 2 yrs. ago. I'm pretty happy with it. The biggest issue I have is that there's a bit of uneven, wavy-looking lighting toward the bottom of the screen. It's not a big deal, but it gets annoying during long reads or in darker rooms. Two features I would LOVE to see are a dark mode (I sometimes read from my phone just for that), and a blue light filter so there's a warmer light for evening & night reading. 4y

bunny I just bought a new Paperwhite after having at Voyage for years. I like it a lot, though I do sometimes miss the buttons since the touch screen can be a little finicky and slow to respond. Overall I'm pretty happy with it though! 4y

ljuliel I had a PW , but traded it on an Oasis. The new PWs are great, but I went with the Oasis for the warm light. A bit easier on the eyes. Both are great though ! Good luck with your decision. 4y

eanderson Just bought this when they had it on a nice deal. I love the Paperwhites. This one is my 3rd one. I never experienced they Voyage so I can‘t compare. I love this one. Only complaint is the pages can turn very easily with the sensitive touch screen but it‘s not a deal breaker for me. I had the same problem with my other Paperwhites. 4y

TheSpineView I had a Paperwhite and upgraded to an Oasis. I love it and it has navigation buttons. I like that you are stuck with just a swipe. 4y

Crazeedi I love my paperwhite, but I wish I could get the newer one, has audio and waterproof, it's an excellent price right now. I got mine and just a couple weeks later they did the newer one! 4y

ljuliel @TiredLibrarian I really like the warm light. You can set it as you want, plus it has the automatic light sensor doohickey so it‘ll change the light for you when you‘re in a darker or brighter location. I turned that off , as I like it being on the same setting all the time. I also think the page turn buttons are super handy. One handed reading, plus you can switch hands and it automatically flips the screen for you so it‘ll work in either hand. 4y

Derf I upgraded from an old Paperwhite to the Oasis, and I wish I just bought the latest paperwhite. It‘s the best kindle going I think 👍🏻 4y

So I updated my last kindle to the Kindle Paperwhite last year that is the 9th generation. Has anyone seen this deal? Any Newest generation paperwhite owners out there that think it‘s worth grabbing up this deal? I need help!

ljuliel I had the newest one and really liked it. No complaints at all. I recently traded it in for an Oasis. I was sold on the warm screen light 💡. I‘m not sure If the price will go any lower when the Black Friday deals hit. I think they normally take off about 30 bucks. 4y

ljuliel That was the main thing that attracted me to start with. The newest PW I had already had the audiobook capability , and I really like the new flat screen on it, without that outer black edge that sticks up a bit from the screen. I love the warm light on the Oasis. It‘s much easier on the eyes. It‘s adjustable, or you can set it to adjust itself when the light in the room changes. If you‘re interested in upgrading and have one to trade, 👇🏼 4y

Last night my husband came home from work with a surprise for me. Apparently the hotel called him having found my kindle, and he drove over and picked it up for me! I don't even have words for how happy I am to have it back. I still have to call Amazon and reregister it, but for now it's in airplane mode and all my stuff is still there.

Suzze I bought an iPad. The Nook books are in the Nook app, and Kindle in The Kindle app. @Bookladylinda you can use the Bluefire app for ePubs. That is how I read advanced copies. 5y

Kimberlone I had a book for a long time. After my newest one pooped out last year I finally decided to upgrade to a Kindle. Haven‘t ever tried to transition all of my nook purchased books as I assumed I wouldn‘t be able to. Alas, if I‘m desperate I have the app on iPhone. 5y

saresmoore Maybe a Kobo would be a good solution? They have some models that are comparable to Paperwhite and I think they do ePubs. 5y

DannyOlda I'll have to think about it because it was a while ago but I did transfer some of my Google Books to Kindle via my computer. Not sure if it's different with Nook. Will let you know what I can remember. 5y

shutterbug_mama I have a Nook HD and a kindle paper white. I love my kindle so much more due to it being lighter, thinner, smaller size, and looking more like pages in a book. I have not been able to transfer over my files but I haven‘t tried any secret method. The kindle is so much more user friendly and I like dealing with Amazon. Just seems easier. My Nook is now used to watch Netflix and shows on. 5y

I have recently replaced my old Kindle paperwhite after 4.5 years because the battery sucked and now I find out from @AlaMich that they are releasing a better version at the start of November. Waterproof! Better screen! Twice the storage!

Btw, about the tagged book: I think it's utterly hilarious that you can get a paperback on how to use your Kindle.

AlaMich My brother told me they have a trade-in program. I don‘t know how it works or whether it would be worth it for you, since yours is brand-new, but you might look into it. 5y

Finally decided to get a handle on my #kindle today. I‘ve never cleaned out my content or organized my ebooks in any way. So, that was step one. Then I created a spreadsheet of the unread ones. I plan to further prioritize, but this was enough for today. I have 111 unread which accounts for about 30% of my cloud, so that‘s not too bad. Right?? Say yes. 😬 #booknerdproblems

❓- How do you track/organize your ebooks?

Amie I organize my books on my Kindle in collections - mainly to read and read. I also have collections for series and favorite authors that I have multiple books, just to make them easier to find, but the tbr and read collections are the most useful - if only to shame me when I see how many more books I have unread than read 😁 6y

ForstRose I‘d have to look at my numbers in kindle but I know they‘re scary. Partly because I‘ve been banned from adding to the physical book collection I own as long as I am sharing space with my parents. Apparently 2 5.5‘ bookcases with every shelf double stacked and a dozen paper cases of books in the garage count as too many in their world. 6y

ForstRose That is 5.5‘ tall so five shelves plus the top and probably 3-4‘ wide. 6y

ForstRose If I can keep those sorted I‘m sure I can wade through the collection process in my kindle books even though I know it has to be at least triple the count of the book shelf residents 6y

I have SO MANY books to transfer though, so I‘ll see. I also got the special offers button but I heard you can get them removed. (edited) 6y

JoScho You know they don‘t really bother me. And yes you can pay to remove them later so just see how you feel about them. Sometimes they even suggest books that I like. 6y

JoScho Same! I pay for Hulu no commercials. But it is a picture when your kindle is asleep of a book they recommend. There are sometimes some ads at the bottom of the screen when you are on your home page but basically instead of having a book amazon wants you to purchase as your screensaver you would have something more generic. 6y

JoScho I currently have a Voyage but had the Black paperwhite for years and was very jealous when they came out with the white one. Seriously you will use it so much. I can‘t wait to see a picture with your new pink case! 6y

JoScho @Purrfectpages the Voyage has buttons on both side as well as page swipe. I liked the idea of being able to read one handed-with either hand-and being able to turn the pages. It is a small detail but I sold my old one to justify the purchase and got it on prime day. Yes dress her up! I call it #kindlewear 6y

1st World Reading Problem #2: With as much as I have been reading lately, I was only doing one book and one audiobook and found that sometimes I didn‘t want to read the book I had started. I found many users with an insane amount of books being read at one time. I have upped my game to one audiobook and three other books of varying genres in order to keep me reading consistently. We shall see how it goes.

bookishbitch Don't stress about it. Do whatever works best for YOU! I frequently begin books only to get side tracked by another. And I sometimes have binges of no reading altogether. Never try to keep up with others because there is ALWAYS someone else doing more. Reading shouldn't be stressful, just fun. 6y

LiterRohde @bookishbitch Yup. Not trying to compare. I literally just never thought to have more than one book going at a time. If I don‘t want to read, I don‘t. However, I was finding I wanted to read - just not in the mood for the book I started. I had this roadblock in my head that said I had to finish the current book first. BooknerdsLife Ah! Guess I‘m the opposite, I always want to concentrate on just one book at a time but I‘m such a mood reader I need to switch from book to book according to my current mood. Maybe you are becoming a mood reader too 😉 6y

cherinium It was a mind-boggling epiphany for me to realize that it is ok to have more than one book going at a time. I have drastically increased my reading by allowing myself to start something new before finishing one. I went through a decade long stretch of reading 3-4 books a year because of my one-book-at-a-time "rule." I've already completed 15 so far this year! ? 6y

Aimeesue I can read multiple books at the same time, as long as each one is tied to different contexts. Like, I can listen to an audiobook while walking the dogs, read a serial read with a book group, and read a fiction book and a non-fiction book in the same time frame. That way, they all seem to register distinctly in my Brain. If I tried to read two similar fiction books at once, I'd mix them up though. 6y

Holiday etiquette question: I'm thinking of upgrading to a Voyage or Oasis soon, and giving my boyfriend my three-year-old Kindle Paperwhite as an Xmas gift. He currently has a Kobo, but has expressed that he'd like an e-reader with a backlight. I'm worried giving a used Kindle as a gift might be a little tacky, even if it comes with nearly 1,000 books. I plan on buying a new case for it, but after living in my bag for three years ⬇

😁😁😁 I was so excited yesterday! I got my Kindle Paperwhite in the mail! Also got a cool sleep/awake cover for it too. Looks perfect in all its glory.
Side note: going to have to get rid of those ads. I found out that you can ask Amazon customer service to remove them at no charge if you are willing to ask nicely.

I got a new Kindle Paperwhite (my old Kindle is a Kindle touch that's about 6 years old). I really like it except for two quirks I can't seem to fix. I tried Google, but mostly found stuff relating to side loading & using calibre, which has nothing to do with my issues. The problems are that not all the cover images are showing (just the generic image with title) even for books I've downloaded & my collections are not displaying in alpha order. 🤔

Laura317 That would make me nuts. I think as things get older, the company quits giving updates. Since Kindles are so inexpensive, I didn't blame you. 7y

I'll admit it took me a while to warm up to e-readers and when I finally decided to take the plunge I agonized over which would be the best one and finally settled for the Kindle Paperwhite and have pretty happy with it. I love that all my books are readily available and with the Kindle app on my iPhone I can sneak a quick read at any time 😜
