This was a great #BOTM pick! Excellent pacing and plot, my theories changed every other chapter and kept me on my toes. A heartbreaking case no matter which way you look at it, but I liked that it broke the typical mold for a whodunnit. Angie Kim is definitely one to watch, I really enjoyed her writing style and memorable characters 👏🏽

A Game of Thrones | George R. R. Martin
post image

Trying to pretend like none of it happened.

swishandflick I hated it. It made me laugh out loud when Tyrion said some crap about how people love stories and "noone has a better story than Bran." And I'm like LITERALLY EVERYONE STANDING THERE HAD A BETTER STORY THAN BRAN. 2d
Traci1 @swishandflick if that is how Martin planned on ending things I hope he never finishes the books. I am all for justice and happy endings, usually. But it was just so...I don't even know. Just wrong. Bran?!? 😒 2d
hermyknee I read this article that talks about the cyclical nature and poetic justice of Bran taking the throne as he‘s the first POV in the first book (but I don‘t watch the show and never made it past the first book, so it could all be BS), but you might be interested: https://www.google.com/amp/s/io9.gizmodo.com/the-game-of-thrones-has-been-won-18... @swishandflick @Traci1 2d
See All 11 Comments
swishandflick @hermyknee Nah, I disagree. He may have been the first POV but he's literally just been sitting in a chair staring off into space for the last two seasons. And if he's so all-knowing and powerful than he should have opened his mouth and helped. I'm just so unsatisfied by it all 🤦🏽‍♀️ (edited) 2d
hermyknee @swishandflick Here is a far more interesting article that I read about how the actress who plays Daenerys reacted when she read the ending: https://ew.com/tv/2019/05/19/game-thrones-finale-interview-emilia-clarke/ 2d
Liatrek I‘m just lost and I can‘t see myself investing in another series again after this. This was a Dexter finale all over again😢 2d
IamIamIam @Liatrek OMIGOSH, I said the same thing about Dexter!!!! 2d
IamIamIam Jon's story went full circle. They had an incredible character to work with and absolutely trashed him at the end. 👎👎👎 2d
cookreadsleep So upsetting. They only picked Bran because he brought his own chair. (edited) 2d
swishandflick @cookreadsleep LOL 😂😂😂 2d
nalinisriv They should have stopped making the show until the books were out. D&D don't have any imagination or creativity in writing. Dialogues were repeated. Nothing intelligent happened in the season 8. If you view it as abstract story each episode can be described in a single sentence. They made the story overly simplified. 1d

I know that this book has dismal reviews, but people also hated 50 Shades and I was entertained by that just fine (no, the writing wasn't great but I was entertained nonetheless). Anywho - The Mister is currently $2.99 on e-book formats in case anyone else (like me) is curious about it #ebookdeals

An unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but this just felt like more of the same and was much longer than it needed to be. At one point I was just over the excess chatter about random rich people things that don't actually serve the plot (and honestly there's not much plot to speak of). The last 15% picked up, but man I was on the struggle bus getting there. Still written well, so if you really enjoyed the first two this should be fine.

I read the first two books in this series a while back and felt like I'd overdosed on the descriptions of obscene wealth, needing a break. Finally getting around to reading the last book of the trilogy (aka my library hold came through) and I'm having a hard time keeping the family tree straight! 😆

StephanieMarie The family tree at the beginning was my best friend with this series! Lol 6d
swishandflick @StephanieMarie I read the first two in print and it was SO much easier to flip back and forth! 6d

This was a promising start to the series and I enjoyed it! Though I think I was more taken by Ruth and Griffiths' prose than the mystery itself. Still, a solid (albeit a bit rushed) conclusion to a missing child case with an archaeological spin and a cool/creepy setting. I'll check out the others in the series for sure.

I doubt I'll ever make it all the way through this looooong series, but I'll keep plugging away every so often! This one wasn't my favorite though, here's hoping that at some point the murders and/or suspects aren't always directly related to Eve, Roarke, or their pasts, because that play is getting old.

Melissa_J I think this is the next one up in the series for me. I love the series so far, but I doubt I‘ll stay interested enough the characters to make it through 50 books with them! 1w

Yes, I rejoined #BOTM. Yes, I'm salty as hell that they started this whole "BFF" thing right after I quit, completely wiping out my three years as a member so it no longer counts. Yes, I know I wasn't gone long so I'm kicking myself for making a rash decision. And no, I don't want to talk about it ?

Had an early flight out of Austin this morning, which gave me enough time to knock the rest of this book out. I wasn't as enthralled as a lot of the positive reviews I've seen, I kept hoping for some sort of twist to bring me around but it just fell flat. A horrifying premise with no amount of believability whatsoever, so suspend disbelief all ye who enter here. #kindleunlimited

This was cute! A star-crossed romance with an extreeemly slow burn (more like a simmer). It kind of feels like you're watching a Bridget Jones-y slash Serendipity slash Love Actually romcom and screaming "come on already!" at the telly (did I mention it's set in the UK? haha). The ending felt way too rushed after all of the build up, but overall still a cute read.

I can definitely see why the Penn Cage series is popular, this was a really strong start! Maybe a smidge longer than it needed to be, but overall a really fascinating case. Not so much a "whodunnit" but more of a "how do I prove it" revolving around a cold case buried in the deep south, stoking major racial tension at the mere mention of it, and corrupt law enforcement who would rather let sleeping dogs lie. TW: the n word, though not gratuitous

I think this is a case of "it's not you, it's me." I have a really hard time getting into short story collections in general, but thought I'd give this a try because I love Curtis Sittenfeld's novels. The first few stories were fine, but i just don't feel invested enough to continue. And when it starts to feel like assigning yourself homework to read it, it's time to bail and let someone else check out the library loan ?

swishandflick @Cgetscheeky Its been a while, but I remember inhaling them. So if you're not hard to please with romances this will probably work for you. It did for me! But again, I read them when they first came out so I'm not sure if my opinion would change reading it again today. 1mo

Whew, this one put me through the ringer! My heart was all over the place, so many feels. It's super steamy, emotional, and complicated. Jewel E Ann is quickly becoming my go-to for not so straightforward romances 🔥 #romance #romantsy #kindleunlimited

Temper | Layne Fargo

It's a gorgeous day in NYC! Perfect for perusing the $1 carts at the Strand. Found a few gems, including this ARC of Temper that sounds really good. Not released until July so probably a bit of an oops that it ended up for sale 🤫 #bookhaul

ravenlee I don‘t think ARCs are for sale at all, so it must have been a slip-up. I have seen them for sale at an indie bookstore, but it was a special event for charity. I know used bookstores won‘t take them because they can‘t sell them. 1mo
pl.2886 The Signature of All Things is one of my all-time favorites! 1mo
swishandflick @ravenlee yep, I know! That's why I was surprised to stumble on it in the used $1 section 😆 1mo

Ooh, I enjoyed this a lot! A completely unexpected plot for a thriller and twists I didn't see coming. I'll be curious to see what happens next in Rockton! (Fingers crossed my library hold comes in quick 🤞🏽)

Ya'll. I randomly stumbled on this newish boy band a few months ago called Why Don't We and the music isn't deep but it's hella catchy. So on a whim I decided to go to their concert at Radio City tonight and I think I'm in over my head. Feeling hella old and kinda concerned about my eardrums with all of these screaming teens ?

Non-book post, sorry (though I'm kinda shocked that these guys have an "autobiography", most of them are underage.

Melissa_J My daughter loves this group. I have no idea what they sing 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo

CarolynM Yeah, I've done something like that - it's kind of weird being the oldest one in the room😬 2mo

BarbaraBB Lol about the autobiography! Recently I left a gig in the middle when I noticed me and my friend were the oldest in the whole venue - embarrasing 😊 2mo
KirstieE I hate to admit that I fell down the rabbit hole with this group... their songs are just so damn catchy !! 2mo
