Breanne1 I‘ve been anticipating these!!! Thanks for the tag, I‘m intrigued by a few of these actually!! 14h
Cinfhen I‘m not loving these choices. Are you,Ashley??? Thanks so much for the tag!!! I read one already as an ARC and I think I might have an ARC for Olga. The memoir I read was good but it wasn‘t a standout 8h
swishandflick @Cinfhen I'm actually thinking I might get A Flicker in the Dark! But mostly because it has an endorsement from Karin Slaughter on the cover, haha 1h

My #BOTM picks! I'm glad one of the main picks finally piqued my interest enough to let me get the Rooney as an add-on 😆

JamieArc I‘m waiting for the day that happens to me! Hopefully next month! 1mo

November #BOTM picks! 📚

Branwen YES! You're the absolute BEST! 😁💕📚 Thanks so much for posting these! 1mo
Nelnjali The Keeper of the Night sounds like my kind of book, and I'm definitely curious about the Keanu Reeves book. It sounds like it could be some quirky fun. 1mo

Breanne1 Thank you SO much, I really appreciate the tag!! I‘m leaning towards A Little Hope or The Collective. Need to keep thinking on it… 1mo
BookwormAHN I'm thinking Keeper of Night. 1mo
AmyG Thank you! 1mo
Cinfhen Ahhhh!!! Thank you!!!! You‘re awesomeness xxx 1mo
swishandflick @Branwen Sure thing!! Anything jumping out at you? 1mo
swishandflick @Nelnjali I felt similarly about the Keanu book! Haha. I don't usually purchase romance in hardback but that sounds fun. 1mo
swishandflick @Breanne1 Definitely been doing some digging! I think I'm leaning towards The Family 👏🏽 1mo
swishandflick @Cinfhen Anything striking your fancy? I saw your review on A Little Hope and that sounds good. I feel like I'm also leaning towards The Family. 😆 1mo
PathfinderNicole Wooo!! Thanks for always posting these!!! It‘s really helpful for getting a jump start on my picks! 1mo
Branwen I think I might get 3 again this month! 🤣😂 The Collective, A Little Hope, and the fantasy YA one look soooo good! 😍 Of course, I might change that around if there are super good add ons too! 🤔📚 1mo
Megabooks I‘ll have to look these up!! 1mo

Hollie Oooh, The Family looks good! 1mo
swishandflick @Hollie That's the one that's calling to me too! 1mo
Booknerd222 I‘m kinda disappointed cause for the last few months (and this month) I haven‘t found any of the books horribly interesting. 1mo
marleed Oh cool -I saw a spoiler suggesting The Family is Jenna‘s Nov bookclub pick. 1mo
Cinfhen The Family is the only one calling to me!! A Little Hope is a quiet & quick read but it doesn‘t really linger once you put it away. It‘s good but not GREAT. I‘m curious to see the add-ons 1mo
catiewithac Major bummer 1mo
Breanne1 With @Cinfhen review of a Little Hope I‘m leaning towards The Family now. It seems like The Collective will be a potential ebook deal for me down the road…don‘t need it in hard back. 1mo
Cinfhen Agreed @Breanne1 worth picking up at some point but not necessarily a book to own immediately 1mo
Reviewsbylola Ok, just my first impression—none of these look like books I would read. Possibly the synopses will change my mind on that BUT even if I do change my mind, I really don‘t like any of these covers. And that‘s a dealbreaker for me for book purchases. 1mo
mrsthilkey @Booknerd222 same. I will be skipping for the third month in a row 😬 1mo

I've never heard of this book or read anything by the author, but this was a great impulse pick from the library! The does she or doesn't she have multiple personalities angle made for an interesting psych thriller. And while I found the ending a little too implausible and rushed, I certainty didn't see it coming! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jemgirl2014 I really enjoyed"The New Husband". A bit Life Timey but still good! ? 1mo

Ya'll know I love me some Lisa Gardner, but for some reason I just cannot stay engaged with this one! The premise sounds great, a woman who helped convict her serial killer husband is now on the run and looking for training on how to protect herself after he escapes (presumably to get his revenge). The pacing just feels all over the place. And one of the main characters, JT, definitely gets on my nerves. Gonna throw in the towel for now 🤷🏽‍♀️

Every so often a book comes along to remind me why I don't dole out 5-stars on a regular basis. This blew me away! So insanely heartbreaking and captivating. I started it before bed last night and stayed up way too late because I just couldn't stop turning the pages. Duchess will stick with me for a while. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

MicheleinPhilly I really need to tackle this one sooner rather than later. I had planned to read it on vacation but then I barely read on vacation. *shrugs* 2mo

I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on this one but I quite enjoyed it! Solid premise - what happens when you realize the relationship with your best friend is toxic, and there's no good way to end things because she's controlling and literally knows where the bodies are buried. Things slowly begin to unravel, and the tension built nicely. I just thought the ending dropped the ball a bit. I see why Reese picked it up, would be a good movie! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

marleed Haha - I have fun reading the Reese and Jenna picks. It seems to me Jenna picks books ripe for a bookclub discussion. But with Reese, I can‘t help but to cast every character for adaption to screen. It‘s rather fun because I don‘t often do that with my reads. 2mo
5feet.of.fury I liked this one, too. I agree about the ending, though, a couple wtf moments left hanging there. 2mo
swishandflick @marleed I completely agree, that's the perfect differentiation between the two! I always find myself picturing how Reese's picks would translate to film/tv 😂 (edited) 2mo

This book is phenomenal! Beautiful, heartfelt, and deeply personal. I really appreciate how deftly Hoang tackles brutal reality and raw emotion - learning to be true to yourself, overcoming the burden of expectations, the complexities of caregiving. And somehow that's perfectly balanced with sizzling chemistry and authentic vulnerability. Anna and Quan felt so real. BrittanyReads So excited for The Ex Hex!! And, I agree @BookwormAHN where's the spooky picks?! 2mo
marleed Oh my gosh, I want three of them. What to do because I want the late add on from Sep too - Apples Never Fall. I had a feeling the Ex Hex would be on this list since BOTM has Rachel Hawkins. (edited) 2mo
Traci1 I've got The Ex Hex coming in paperback, and none if the others are screaming at me. 🤔 2mo
Kimberlone The Lincoln Highway will probably be my pick. I‘m definitely interested in the Ex Hex, but I‘m likelier to wait for that one on Libby. 2mo
Megabooks Thanks for the tag. Nothing is screaming at me. Unless there are great add ons, it‘s a skip for me. ☹️ 2mo
Jemgirl2014 @marleed Rachel has a new thriller coming in January. I want to preorder it but I'm afraid it will be a BOTM pick. I recommended it to my local public library instead. 😊 2mo
marleed @Jemgirl2014 isn‘t that funny. When I saw Rachel wrote the Ex Hex under a pseudonym and then when I saw the release date - it just seemed like a perfect botm October selection. I liked the idea of this offshoot series featuring Tessa Leoni, from one of the previous DD Warren books, but I wish she were featured more heavily. Overall I struggled to connect with the kidnapped characters for some reason. Well constructed and tense as per usual, but I suspected the ending early on and (without being able to say too much without spoilers) the twist, while crazy, kind of irked me when I was right. 3.5⭐️

#BOTM has opened the first round of voting for Book of the Year and I must say, this is the first year in a while that I haven't read a lot of them (many didn't appeal to me).

My personal opinion is that Razorblade Tears will (and should) win. But in this first round I'm voting for Once There Were Wolves because if it's a finalist that's the free book I'd choose 🤣

Side note: is it me or does it seem like September is too early to talk BOTY? Lol

That moment when library holds come through at times that aren't ideal. I don't know that it was my brightest idea to stick with a highjacking plot this close to the anniversary of 9/11. And no, I did not actually have the guts to read it during my flight (into JFK no less) 😳 ✈️

But I digress - Some of the twists were predictable but overall a very tense, action-packed premise with some nail biter moments and a slightly heavy handed finale 3.5⭐️

Stack ranked against the rest of the DD Warren series this is my least favorite so far. But even Gardner's weakest book (in my opinion) is still better than most of the mediocre thrillers out there, so I'm not complaining. In theory I enjoyed the return of Flora from the previous installment, though I thought the amount of leeway that DD gave her with her own vigilante investigation was a bit far fetched. 3.5⭐️

swishandflick @TheDaysGoBy It definitely is! This was my first time having a cat sitter come by while I was away for a few days, and had some anxiety about how she'd do. I missed her sweet face, so it actually felt nice to walk in and have her be so affectionate and cuddly 🥰 3mo

Not a Happy Family | Shari Lapena

Bailedbailed

Not a Happy Family, indeed. Unfortunately this just isn't the type of "thriller" that interests me, the writing and characters are falling flat and the suspense feels forced. And while there are multiple reasons for many of these (entitled, selfish) people to have committed murder, I find myself not caring who actually did the deed or who gets the inheritance. So instead of forcing myself to continue, I'm bowing out. Glad I didn't buy it ? #BOTM

Megabooks It didn‘t sound good to me. 3mo

False Witness | Karin Slaughter

Pickpick

I must say, Karin Slaughter pulled no punches with this one - whew, that was intense! A tale of two sisters and the secrets they keep, plus the long term effects of teenage trauma. While certainly not for those sensitive to trigger warnings, this might be my favorite Slaughter "standalone" so far! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

PS: the resort I'm staying in has a lounge called The Library, so basically the perfect spot for a pre-dinner glass of wine and a book ?

This picture doesn't begin to do today's reading spot justice ? - I've escaped to the Bahamas for a few days of R&R and it's lovely. Now, you might say "Ashley, this is not your typical beach read", but for some reason all I seem to be in the mood for lately is murder (I'll overanalyze that later) so it felt like the perfect time to start the latest from one of my favorites!

Leftcoastzen Enjoy! I‘m a mood reader too ! Doesn‘t always line up with the moment but 🤷‍♀️ 3mo

swishandflick @Leftcoastzen I know, I'd much rather read what holds my attention than trying to force myself through something that isn't working in that moment 😊 3mo
swishandflick @Erinreadsthebooks LOL! I always struggle with my fascination with true crime in general so I'm never quite sure how to interpret my obsession with gory books 😆 3mo

At this point I'm at the "I'll be more shocked if at some point I *don't* like one of her books" stage of my relationship with Lisa Gardner. Another fantastic book that sticks the landing.

Although one of the only trigger warnings that gets me is self-harm. Graphic descriptions of cutting always make me feel light-headed. So there was that. But still a great whodunnit.

I may not have been thrilled with #BOTM's picks the last few months, but whoever is in charge of their social media content gets an A+ 🤣

Damn. Hell must have frozen over, this is my third #BOTM skip in a row! I mostly just wanted the Rooney add-on but none of the main picks were tempting enough to pull the trigger. I *almost* caved and went with the tagged book, but then noticed the "mama drama" tag they had given it and promptly changed my mind. Here's hoping I'm excited for October!

Johanna414 I've skipped all summer too! 3mo
Megabooks Mama drama turns me off too! 3mo
rather_be_reading i almost skipped also for my 3rd or 4th month 😪 3mo

Kimberlone Same! I skipped for the same reasons. 3mo
BarbaraBB Mama drama sounds horrible. Makes me think immediately of this book in that category which I wanted to throw out of thd window at times 3mo
Laughterhp I did the same exact thing. Almost went for the tagged but I‘m not into mama drama. 3mo
Michael_Gee What does mama drama mean? Like Big Little Lies? (edited) 3mo
swishandflick @Michael_Gee It's usually things featuring suburban housewives, haha. I suppose Big Little Lies does fall into that category, though for me that was an exception in the sense that I actually enjoyed it. Most of the time I find myself annoyed (not sure if it's because I'm not a parent and the kiddie drama just doesn't do it for me). 3mo
AvidaLectrix I skip for months at a time too, then suddenly will get several in one month! What catches my eye comes in waves, it appears. 3mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m going to skip too 😩 3mo
Michael_Gee @swishandflick Got it! Thank you. ☺️ Not my thing, either, but I loved the 1st season of BGL. It‘s really stuck with me. 3mo

And these are the #BOTM add-ons. On the one hand, excited that my prediction about the Rooney was right! On the other hand, I'm bummed that it's not a main pick because I'm not into any of those.

Might be a skip again for me this month 😭

Kimberlone Same! I definitely would have picked the Rooney if it had been a main pick, but I was just not interested in the September options at all. 3mo
swishandflick @Kimberlone I'm convinced that they deliberately put the books they know will be the most popular as add-ons so we feel pressured to buy something else 😩 3mo
Kimberlone @swishandflick after this month‘s options it certainly seems that way. I literally hadn‘t even heard about the books that were the main picks… 3mo

Cinfhen Thanks for sharing 🥰Are you feeling any😄??!!? I only have 2 credits left and I‘m trying to stretch them out until December so I can get the free book of the year 😜 3mo
swishandflick @Cinfhen I only want one of the add-ons (the Rooney), so unfortunately I may be skipping. I don't think I want to pick one of these *just* to get that one and I may wait it out with the library 3mo
Cinfhen Same!! Most of the selections are #BorrowNotBuy for me as well!!! I think can wait it out😅 3mo

Find Her | Lisa Gardner
post image
Pickpick

Another phenomenal book from Lisa Gardner! A chilling case, and just as twisty and suspenseful as the rest.

Though in my haste to queue up plenty of her books from the library, I accidentally skipped one and read this out of order - oops! By the time I realized I was already 25% through, so I just got on with it. Turned out fine, just a few minor (in the grand scheme of things) spoilers on DD's personal life 😬

Another September #BOTM spoiler! I enjoy romance generally but haven't really been in the mood for them lately, so this will be a pass for me. Any takers?

Breanne1 Not a huge romance fan so this one will be a pass for me too. 3mo
marleed I like to read across genres but I‘m seldom compelled to be the original owner of a romance. I often thrift them or borrow from the library. I do have a handful of romances that upon borrowing from the library, decided I needed to own my own copy. 3mo

Beachesnbooks i'm really interested in this one and was shot down for an earc on netgalley, so i'm excited about this! 3mo
Megabooks I almost never read romance. 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I like fake relationships (oh the delusion that it all means nothing!) but this one sounds like a library borrow. 3mo
Laughterhp I‘ll probably pass on this one. I‘m very picky with my romance books. 3mo

As some of you may have noticed, when I find a new author that I'm obsessed with I'm basically like a dog with a bone. The DD Warren series just gets better and better! This might be my favorite yet, with interesting twisty plot points in all of the right places 👏🏽

BookDragonNotWorm I used to live in the same town as her - she'd launch all her book tours there! She's nice - and funny! She also helped raise a ton of money for the local animal shelter, so besides being an awesome author, she's an awesome person! 💙 3mo
