I'm calling it a pick for the art, but for me the story was just so so.

I've been binge watching United Shades of America and just watched the episode about Alabama. I had no idea W. Kamau Bell and N. K. Jemison were related. Clearly I had to buy some of her books.

MicheleinPhilly I learned that when I read his book. My mind was blown! Also that show is so fantastic. 1w

Really good story with great art. I liked watching the evolution of Dr. Tenma's looks. Could not stop reading. It's not really a mystery since you know where it's all headed. Definitely psychological, but "thriller" feels like the wrong word. Simply "psychological. I had to order the next two volumes after finishing this one.

Sooo... I didn't need one but I bought a kindle paperwhite. I feel like my constantly tired eyes are due to staring at a computer and phone all day. I've been trying to read more off my kindle and I don't think staring at my kindle fire was helping. I'll still use it for magazines, Manga and graphic novels, but for everything else I'll try the paperwhite.

Kaye Congrats, I hope you like it. I like mine 3w
VanChocStrawberry It‘s definitely more like looking at paper! I got mine for the same reasons you did, plus it was hard for me to sleep after reading on my phone. It‘s been great! 3w
8little_paws Yes you will definitely have improvement with the paperwhite. I hope you like it! 3w
See All 15 Comments
JoScho For just regular long time reading a Paperwhite is the way to go. I don‘t think you will be disappointed. Enjoy!!! 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @Kaye @VanChocStrawberry @8little_paws @JoScho I'm so happy to read these comments. Obviously I had already justified yet another kindle lol but I still doubted if it would help. 3w
ReadingSusan This is exciting. Can‘t wait to hear how you like it. I read on my kindle app on my iPad but it‘s way too bright so I think I will get one of these too. 3w
vumblereads I still have the first kindle paperwhite edition. They‘re very sturdy, you won‘t regret it. I wish I could buy the new waterproof version but my kindle still works perfectly. They are definitely easier on the eyes. I read on my iPhone too but mostly for mangas. 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @vumblereads I'm happy to hear they are sturdy. I feel like my kindle fire is sturdy...but lately it feels like it is acting up and hiccuping more. 3w
8little_paws I still have both a paperwhite and a fire. Unless I am missing something, I cannot download Hoopla books to the Fire. So, the fire is used exclusively for Hoopla books and comics, and the paperwhite is used for everything else. I bought the paperwhite years ago, the fire I bought when it was on one of those crazy sales around black friday or so and I think I only paid like maybe $40. 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @8little_paws I got this because of a mother's day offer. I haven't had trouble downloading Hoopla books on Fire...but I haven't tried in a while 3w
8little_paws @RestlessFickleBookHoarder I meant to say I can't DL hoopla to paperwhite 3w
baes Enjoy! I love, love, love my Kindles for this very reason. I keep one in my purse and one in the house. The battery lasts forever and they sync with my Kindle apps too. 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @8little_paws ah. I'll have to remember that. I tend to borrow physical books from the library (there's a branch that's walking distance from my house.) 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @baes that's another reason I got the paperwhite...when I'm at lunch I like to sit outside and read (plus supervise the students who eat lunch outside.) I can't really do that on a Fire without turning up the screen to a battery draining brightness. 3w

RestlessFickleBookHoarder @audraelizabeth I've sworn off challenges. For a long time I kept a digital list of completed reads, but I recently gave that up and just doing a paper copy in my notebook. 3w

This makes me happy.

MidnightBookGirl So much easier to see and comment! I am forever accidentally publishing comments before I can actually finish them on my phone and then having to decide if I should just hit delete and retype or to add an immediate second comment... the website if just so much more my speed! 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @MidnightBookGirl I still love the app, but it's nice to know that now I can get to Litsy on the web too. This is pretty exciting!

hmmm. I guess to share books I would still need my phone since that would be the easiest way for me to get the picures uploaded...but now I could check Litsy at work and everyone will think I'm on task because I'm sitting at a computer and NOT looking at my phone. Woo hoo!
3w
Suet624 The sharing photos is a bit clunky on the web version definitely. But I'm very excited too that I can access Litsy now from my computer. 3w

MelissaSue81 Oh good!! And yes, I was thinking the same thing as @RestlessFickleBookHoarder about checking at work. 🤣 3w
CoverToCoverGirl Oh happy day! 3w
Litsy @Suet624 I suspect it will lead to a rise in sharing of covers and screenshots. Personally (this is @timspalding), I will sometimes post a photo from my phone, but then write the words on my computer. 3w
Suet624 @Litsy Hi Tim, I‘m not sure how you post the picture from one device and then write comments on your computer but I‘ll see if I can figure it out. 3w
Litsy @Suet624 Hey. I post on Litsy, but then I edit online. I can't STAND typing something out on the phone. It's like writing things out by hand, which I haven't really done since 1982. 3w

Ok. So someone said something on another place a few days ago and I've been obsessing and quasi fuming about it ever since. It wasn't directed at me but it just got me thinking about the pompous and elitist shit some readers say and I'm just done with it.

tournevis 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 3w
Kimberlone I remember last summer a couple of my friends came by my house and gave me some crap when they saw I was reading a romance novel. They know I‘m a big reader so I gave them some perspective on why I like to read lots of different genres and that reading Romance is really no different from enjoying watching a rom-com. Sometimes you just have to show people why their opinions are prejudiced. Luckily they are usually very open minded. 3w
TrishB Just read what you want! No need to explain either 👍🏻 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @Kimberlone sometimes I wonder if all the social media has made everything feel...false? Like even reading has become more about "pinterest ready" pics and not showing our true reading colors, not to mention what I call viral reads....when the same book comes up again and again and again....confession - I don't think I care about the Booker prize. I'd rather see excitement over the Pura Belpre or Coretta Scott King. 3w
laurenslibrary What you said about "pinterest ready": This is one of the reasons I didn't like "bookstagram." I don't think most of those people actually read any of the books they post pictures of. 3w
BookwormM I am not a book snob I am a book whore I will read anything and everything sometimes I hate classic reads sometimes I love pulp. Just be who you are and read what you want. 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @LaurensLibrary right? I want to see pictures that look like someone is actually reading. Some of my fave Litsy posts are the ones taken from the couch, or on the porch or just....look genuine. 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @BookwormM ? sometimes I see posts that look and feel like people are trying to be all "I read literachure...I wouldn't debase myself with *gasp* mass market paperbacks." Whatevs. I'm gonna read the literary equivalent of Velveeta. 3w
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego That's one reason why I love Litsy. For the most part we all just support reading, no matter what it is, romance, comic books, whatever. As long as we're reading! 📖💖 3w
CouronneDhiver People are nuts. Be you... brilliantly. ☀️ 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @CouronneDhiver lol and "me" can't be asked to read anything difficult ? 3w
CoverToCoverGirl I don‘t have time for “book snobs”... I read whatever catches my fancy.. as far as I can see here on Litsy, you do you wonderfully! 😊 Ignore the negativity, some people are just fecal agitators! 3w

Jen_Reads Middle grade has some of the best books!! 3w
RestlessFickleBookHoarder @Jen_Reads @4thhouseontheleft @Lindy I find myself only wanting to read middle grade. Teaching can be so mentally exhausting (especially when the state has taken over and the district is going through accreditation) and I don't want anything overly taxing when I read. 3w

When it comes to #librosenespanol the biggest mistake I make is reading what I think I should be reading (more challenging, well-known author, classic, not translated from English) instead of what I want to read (not a challenge, children's book, translated from English.) In this case I feel like I *should* be reading La Reina del Sur for the author/challenge, but I'd rather be reading Luna for the cuteness but the Spanish is super easy.

I'm actually staying on target for a read along schedule!!

PS- I think I've figured out that I reach for manga and MG fiction because I can only find small chunks of time to read and I can get more pages of manga/MG read in 10 than more difficult material.
