I finally got home after my crazy holiday to FINALLY open my #Nightmare4Christmas #N4C box. I love it @UnidragonFrag ! I had said that the scariest rhing to me was what humans do to each other and this box lived up! I have serious plans to drink tea from my new mug while digging into some books tomorrow to recover. Thank you, thank you and thank you again!!!
My naughty cat has been chewing on the books on the nightstand for a couple weeks now. After I chased him away from this one, it occurred to me that I have been neglecting my #stephenking #shortstories lately. This chilly October night seems like a good time for a #spookyread. Then tomorrow, I'll plan to get started on my final selection for #lmpbc #round3 #GroupZ. @shellleigh33 @Lidia @Velvetsun
Anytime I watch or read something from the past that mentions Trump I so badly want to go back in time and see if the author, director, whatever, would believe that he's our president now. 🙃🤔😞😦
I failed this #24in48 challenge. I've logged about 4 hours. Which is probably more than I would've done. I turned on the audiobook to fold instead of Netflix, so that's a win.
I'm not sure how to choose my actual bookends. My grandmother was moving and needed someone to take a Civil War era secretary desk off her hands. My husband was balking. So I had to make it appealing to him. I seem to arrange by covers.
The worst offense I've seen was a borrowed book of my husband's getting left in the rain and then thrown into a trunk to "dry". It was painful to look at.
Second worst is this: target practice with pellet guns. I've been replacing these Kings, but I like these editions and it's slow going. ?
Y is for “You Know They Got a Hell of a Band,” which appears in the tagged book. Mary and Clark wind up in Rock and Roll Heaven. As they discover, rock and roll will never die.
Y is for “You Know They‘ve Got A Hell Of A Band”, a story from Nightmares & Dreamscapes, a 1993 collection of mostly previously published material. The story concerns a young couple on a road trip in Oregon when they accidentally wander into a small town inhabited by dead rock and roll legends (the title is taken from a 70‘s rock song by Climax). It was adapted for TV as part of a TNT miniseries in 2006.
When you think Vampires and King 'Salem's Lot pops into your mind first, but another terrific vampire story he's written is "The Night Flier," about a tabloid reporter who investigates a series of murders committed by a killer who flies from airport to airport in a private plane. Suspenseful, creepy & reminiscent of Matheson's Kolchak: The Night Stalker.
U is for Umney‘s last case, which appears in the tagged collection and was apparently adapted for tv in an episode starring William H. Macy!
Synopsis from StephenKing.com:
It‘s just another ordinary day in 1930s Los Angeles for private investigator Clyde Umney, until a new client walks into his office. Umney soon learns that his client is the crime-fiction writer who not only created him, but now needs to switch places with him.
• Day 14 of #KingAtoZ challenge is the letter “N” for King‘s short story collection “Nightmares and Dreamscapes” 😱 •

H is for Home Delivery (short story from the tagged book).
Another for my #tbr
Synopsis: A young, pregnant widow recently lost her husband in a fishing boat accident. When reanimated dead bodies start attacking the living, it isn‘t long before she must confront the zombie of her dead husband and decide if she is strong enough to watch him die all over again.
I ♥️ Zombies 🧟♂️
#KingAtoZ #G and #H G is for the Gore in his short story, my H, Home Delivery. I was reading at a restaurant in Albuquerque. I was eating spaghetti when I came across this part..... and then I was no longer eating spaghetti. Lol
The librarian had to get this big old book out of storage because I need one short story out of it for my next #SummerOfStephen read.
Great collection of short-stories. Some of them are good, but most of them are great and they stick with you long after you finish reading them. There are some amazing gems in this volume (plus a non-fiction piece), as some old tropes turned into something new or reinterpreted. A great collection. 🤓
There aren't many short story collections I like, but I've always enjoyed the ones by Stephen King and Richard Matheson. I'm a bit of a speculative fic fan at heart, and Boris the six-legged spider seems to agree 😉⠀What's your favourite story in this Stephen King collection?

I can't believe I've bailed on Stephen King, but there you have it. The problem was, I think, listening to these stories on audio. I may well return to them on a cold winter's night when I can't sleep, but in the summer sunshine I found my mind wandering too much which you can't afford to do with short stories.
Stephen King must have the #wildestdreams, because some of his stories, man... There are novels he can't recall writing during his drug-fueled days, too!
Scariest female villain in a King book is definitely Annie Wilkes. Paul Sheldon had nightmares about her for a long time!
Audio cleaning on a beautiful Saturday morning! 😊 Makes the time go faster and the chores not so bad.
The donor was a major #StephenKing fan, if you couldn't tell, lol. These are a few of the titles we received today. Anything catch your fancy 😎? (And the three books up above are the Lord of the Rings trilogy. She read EVERYthing! The set will probably be a Summer Reading Contest prize.) The center pile is the complete Dark Tower series, including a Marvel installment. I'm looking at you @HotMessJess 👍🏻! #bookporn #LitsyLovesLibraries
An appropriate setting to start my new audiobook, I thought. Am I the only one who loves to meander through old cemeteries, looking at the gravestones?
Short stories/novellas are really not my thing. At least, not when they come all packaged together in one big book. I just have the hardest time reading them quickly. I'm reading Four Past Midnight right now and it's taken me almost 2 weeks!!!! That's a long time for me, even for a 700+ page book. Anyway, these are the collections I have now. I WILL read them. It may be painful, but I will do it! #stephenking17 #shortstories
Story I'd most like to be in? Dolan's Cadillac... if Trump and Bannon can be in the Cadillac 😆. #stephenking17
#stephenking17 day 4: scared you
Don't laugh, but to me, the scariest King creation is not Pennywise or the Overlook or anything like that! What scaried me the most was that damn ringer thing inside the sink in The moving ringer short that is part of Nightmares and dreamscapes!
Again: not my picture, but I have the saneamento two part edition.
An eclectic mix of short stories/poems--24 in all--that make for some great reading & some good reading. You'll definitely need to come to terms with some things after reading this collection: letting your kids play with toys, using the bathroom, answering the old landline, & getting lost in suburbia. Some of the book is non-fiction, some isn't even scary. Worth a quick Halloween night read-aloud though. #PairWith: Pabst Blue Ribbon, cold-can.
