How do you deal with an overflowing TBR pile?

Playing pen and paper RPGs has become one of my favorite hobbies. In Blades In The Dark, you create a crew of daring scoundrels who try to work up their way in the underworld.
The city of Duskwall lies in a realm where the sun has shattered, ghosts haunt the city, and the lightning wall protecting the people from leviathan demons, who are hunted in the Void Sea for blood, which powers the city.
I can't wait to play!

A different kind of book: an roleplaying book. Tales from the Loop is about kids that live in in the area of a particle accelerator in an alternate 80's by Simon Stålenhag. Robots, and magnetrine ships are common and the occasional door to another time or reality can happen around the Loop.
You create kids that get in trouble, solve mysteries and face their personal problems. Non-lethal, because kids don't die.

Hello Litsy, I try to be more active!!

Step 1: move all your read books in the now empty room because you a) still need to buy shelves and b) need the former shelf as your TBR shelf. It was bursting anyway.

Hey Littens, I was really absent these past two month and I actually don't know why. Well, I am back and will be documenting my library building efforts. I get 4 and a half shelves!!! . The other half of the room will be my boyfriend's workbench and 3D printer space! 😁

I've started this book for over 8 years, the book of shame because I've never finished it. When I started university, I was not able to read much in the first 3 years, and now that I do, I pushed this one back and back.
Guess what, I've finally read it!! It was not bad, a fast paced, cinema inspired first contact story.
But it was also kind of uncreative, so just an ok book for me😅

DuckOfDoom Also, what do you thin about reviews without pictures? Somehow, that's what keeps me from posting more. I've read many good books this year that I want to share, but I have trouble taking pictures :/ 5mo

DuckOfDoom @laurenbescoby @julesG it was only one scene that really threw my off, because it was so bad. But even one case of victim blaming is too much, in my opinion. I am finished now and the whole story was bland and the usual mix of YA tropes :/ 6mo

I was a bit concerned when I read that it's an YA book, BUT after I read it I can say it does not read like your standard YA. It's from Norway, and I hope it will be translated to English soon, because it had a bit of this classical fantasy feeling meets a Norse mythology inspired world. The author really took her time to flesh out the characters and their journey (some might say it drags a little, but I enjoyed the slower pace).

DuckOfDoom @julesG you wanted to know if I liked it 😁 6mo
julesG Thanks!!!! It's still on my list. I think we have a similar taste in books, so knowing you liked it is the tipping point. 😉 6mo
julesG PS: have you seen the original Norwegian cover? The German edition is very tame. 6mo

The writing style of the second half was very different from the first half. Unfortunately, I had to speed read it, because I hated the first half so much.
The author took a good story and drowned it sex and rape and violence and words for vagina that sound degrading. Wrapping that up in a forced meandering writing style the first half and you get this book.
The book could have been really good - that's what tips the scale from so-so to pan 😣

I wanted to like the book, but:
- instalove
- love triangle
- plot twist could be seen from chapter 2
- the book reads a if the author had planned a sequel, but the publishers did not pay for one. The ending was rushed.
Also: it is Japan inspired, but I fail to understand why every foreign mythological word has to written in cursive. For this world, the word is normal and it just destroyed the flow. But that's my personal pet peeve, I guess...
