Hurricane Street | Ron Kovic

Well #Littens we made it through!
We were fortunate to not have much damage, though a lot in my neighborhood will have some serious cleanup. Luckily, the NB, NS and ONT Power crews busted their asses to get most of the town up and running after only 24hrs.

Tonight's supper will include a gourmet meal of EVERYTHING I could salvage from the freezer. Yay for teenaged boys 😂

No reading for me tonight. I need sleep.

tournevis Yé for things not being bad! 7d
MoonWitch94 I‘m glad you are ok & things aren‘t too bad 7d
Melissa_J Glad all is well! I guess the Eastern shore and Halifax took the brunt of it. 7d

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Happy to hear you're ok. 7d
laurenslibrary Glad you're safe! 7d
FantasyChick We were fortunate. A lot of homes, especially closer to the coast, took a beating and are still without power. I've seen some homes completely destroyed close to the water so we are counting ourselves lucky @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @laurenslibrary @MoonWitch94 How did your family on the Island fare @tournevis @tournevis 6d
FantasyChick @Melissa_J The south and eastern shores definitely took a hit. I think all the coastlines were beaten up pretty bad. We took a drive to the shore yesterday afternoon and there is quite a bit of damage to the boats, cottages and trailers 6d
tournevis @FantasyChick Every one did ok. No significant property damage to buildings any of the gang owns, no flooding. There's no electricity yet this morning, but the undersea comm cable held (that was a worry). Damage to fishing boats is still being evaluated, but economic impact will be known in Spring really. Don't know yet howmm coast was lost 6d
tournevis @FantasyChick how much coast was lost (waking fingers...) 6d
tournevis @FantasyChick @Melissa_J Damage to boats will be what makes the biggest impact in NS, PEI and the Magdalen Islands. Fishing is the economic backbone of all coastal communities there. 6d
Melissa_J Based on the news reports, it sounds like you lucked out with the power! 6d
FantasyChick @tournevis glad that there wasn't serious damage. Hopefully the coastline held up 🤞 The boats will be the major factor. I know a few small operation lobster fisherman locally that went out to check their boats and they are completely destroyed. Docks and all. The apple orchards on the south shore as well will see a big impact. Lookout for rising prices. 6d
FantasyChick @Melissa_J we did! We had a large tree fall over our powerlines. Both sides. The crews were focusing a lot on downed lines and blocked roads first and I think that was a big factor to why we were restored so quickly. I'll give it to the crews.....3-4 provinces all working around the clock to deal with the debris and power across 3 provinces. They are not appreciated like they should be! 6d
FantasyChick Being a small, border community and seeing the damage done in the neighboring towns....I can't even begin to imagine what the eastern and southern cities are dealing with right now. 6d
tournevis @FantasyChick @Melissa_J You see the crane that collapsed in Halifax? Scary. 6d
Melissa_J It was like that here after the tornados last September. We lost power for a few days, as the main transformer serving the city took a direct hit from the tornado, but it could have been so much longer but for the awesomeness of the power crews working round the clock! 6d
Melissa_J @tournevis yes, that was crazy! The pictures of the damage reminds me of the big ice storm of ‘98 (minus the ice of course). I was in Kingston at school, and the down trees and power lines were crazy. We had no power (or water) for a week, and I had to decamp home to Toronto! 6d
tournevis @Melissa_J In 1998, my in-laws were without power for 32 days. 6d
Melissa_J @tournevis ya, it was crazy the length of power outages in Quebec and the rural parts of Eastern Ontario! 6d
FantasyChick @tournevis @Melissa_J Funny, we were talking about the '98 storm today. I barely remember it but I know you all got hit hard! This storm hit the way Juan did in 2003...I think? I remember that year the hurricane was followed by the worst snow we had seen in years! Hopefully history doesn't repeat 😧 6d
FantasyChick My friend's son just moved to Halifax at the beginning of the school year and they live in the building next to where the crane fell. It's terrifying! 6d
tournevis @FantasyChick @melissa_J Ha! Yeah! Juan. I remember Juan. The Islands had gotten tropical storm winds that time, but NS have been plowed! I know someone whose dog died of a heart attack during Juan. 6d

Inktober | Gary Deslauriers

Any artistic #littens on here thinking of doing #inktober this year? I'm thinking with all the work reading, writing, and teaching I'll be doing I might need a non-verbal outlet to rest my brain. The official prompts come out Sept. 1st, but these ones sounds especially bookish.

OnlyYoo Lol when I saw inktober I totally thought it was a tattoo thing! I still don‘t know what jnktober is but it sounds super cool 3w
pilardib I'm not a very artistic person 😅 but this sounds fun! Maybe I'll give it a try 3w
Crazeedi So this goes live in October? Not sure how this works, guess I'll observe 3w

I didn‘t pick this for any of my #BOTM books because I had mixed feelings on how I may like it. I‘m glad I didn‘t get it and listened to the audiobook. I felt that the writing was well done as well as the storytelling. However, I felt bored a lot of the times and no connection to the characters. It was just okay.

PSreads73 I almost picked this one. It sounded interesting with the Mayan mythology mixed in with the Jazz age. Glad I didn‘t chose it if it‘s boring. 1mo

I loved Need to Know. Keep Your Close had some ties to Need to Know, but I felt like it was so easy to guess things going on due to it having the same structure of Need to Know, but with different characters and a slight different outcome. It had good moments, but for me I couldn‘t wait for it to end-not in a good way.

I really wished I picked up a Christina Lauren book a long time ago. I wanted to back when I met Lauren when she moderated Sarah J. Maas‘ book stop for ACOWAR. Anyway, while I‘m Flagstaff on vacation, I went into a cool bookstore and picked this one since I just love the cover. I‘m so glad I did. It was cute and very quirky. I would love to read more by them in the future.

The Bride Test | Helen Hoang

Rating: 4/5
Let me first say I absolutely hated The Kiss Quotient and had high hopes for it, but a lot of it felt forced and awkward. I gave that 2 stars. So, when the Bride Test came out, I thought meh, maybe not. However, last week I was in Flagstaff and was browsing a super cool bookstore (on vacation) and decided to pick this up. I have to say this one was way better and had more dimension. I‘m so glad I changed my mind. #botm #litsy #littens
