Thanks for the tag @vivastory !

Everyone has probably seen the rules by now for the #7Covers7Days #CoverCrush challenge, but just in case. Post a favorite book cover, 1 a day for 7 days, and tag someone new each day to join in on the fun! Mine won't be in any particular order, and I'll probably forget some of my favorites, but here's my day 1!

@Kayla.Adriena join in, if you haven't already been tagged!

vivastory Excellent choice 👍 I'm long overdue to read more Adams 2mo
madamereadsalot1 @vivastory this is probably my favorite Adams novel! 2mo

This book is as weird as it's title. I realized Dirk Gently didn't have much to do here but that's his whole thing right!! he is a holistic detective after all.
This book is uncanny and inexplicable at times but is a fun read. Go for this if you like fantasy mixed with science fiction!!

jmofo @madamereadsalot1 you‘re double plus fancy! 🤓 10mo
madamereadsalot1 @jmofo it happened quite by accident. I bought them from an old book shop that, god rest it's soul, went the way independent used book shops in my area go, and that's out of business. I don't think the person knew what they had, because I didn't even know it until I got them home! Got them for a STEAL! 10mo

Adam‘s has one of my favorite conversational voices. Especially made entertaining by the fact every time I read “Thor” I see Chris Hemsworth. Adam‘s ability to convey the setting in quick, precise, character influenced sentences has always been perfect. I especially loved the addition of the female protagonist in this novel. 5 out of 5 on GR. I wish there had been more Dirk Gently.

#agameoffavorites day 5, while I do enjoy poetry and have favorite poets, I gotta go with sci-fi! Douglas Adams has been one of my favorites since I was 17-18. I adore Hitchhiker's Guide. But nothing can upset Tea Time as my favorite Adam's book. I know it's not as sci-fi-ish, but it is still classified as such. His favorite book, I can't find; but his favorite author was PG Wodehouse. He's an unread on my tbr pile.

@ErinSueG @WhiskeyMistress

jmofo I love Tea Time! It has it all, sci fi, fantasy, and jokes! I‘m gonna have to pick another author! 🤘😬 1y
madamereadsalot1 @jmofo oh the humor! I mean, who else is gonna write things like, "I've had the sort of day that would make St. Francis of Assisi kick babies"? Or learn that 9/10 of your brain is possibly for storing penguins? ?? 1y

New post on the blog about favourite first lines. I confess I don‘t pay a lot of attention to first lines. Do you? What are your faves?

bit.ly/2H37gJG

readinginthedark No, I don‘t either. Every once in a while, a really profound one will grab my attention, but usually it‘s just part of everything else. 2y
Sue @readinginthedark Very much the same for me. 2y
Lcsmcat Sometimes they are memorable. One of my favorites- “Marley was dead, to begin with, there is no doubt whatever about that.” from 2y

Kid 1: “Hey, mom, what are you reading?”
Me: “It‘s called The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul.”
Kid 1: “But why aren‘t you reading your buddy reads?”
Kid 2: “Yeah, don‘t you have those two big books as buddy reads?”
Me: ...

The moral of the story is: don‘t tell your kids when you‘re doing a buddy read.

saresmoore Meanwhile, Dad‘s been studying pretty much non-stop for an upcoming certification, muttering to himself & staring at his laptop for the past two weeks. Yet he gets no shade? Uh, double standard! 2y

TobeyTheScavengerMonk They obviously don‘t grasp the awesomeness that is Dirk Gently. 2y
saresmoore @Tamra Ain‘t that the truth? 😂🙄 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Haha...they are trying to encourage you to finish your homework before you read for fun. My guess is, you probably taught them that. #ParentingWin 2y
saresmoore @TobeyTheScavengerMonk They really don‘t! Someday they will understand. 2y
saresmoore @Riveted_Reader_Melissa You are absolutely right! They are always spewing my own wisdom right back at me. 😆 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @saresmoore It stinks I know, but at least you know you taught them well. Maybe answer them back that you will finish this one by x day and then will start your buddy read...as in you have a plan and schedule and didn‘t forget your ‘homework‘😂. Dad‘s probably getting a pass because he‘s studying hard. Kids are just too smart sometimes, you try to teach them well and then they use it against you. 2y
emilyhaldi Lol, keeping you in check!! 😆 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @saresmoore Either that or pull the kid wisdom for yourself.... read yours when they aren‘t around, and pull out your homework to read during family time. LOL 😂 2y

saresmoore @vivastory Every day. Kids are the worst. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @saresmoore In all honesty, it doesn‘t hurt to be honest with your kids, that even adults struggle with planning. It‘s important to know your limits, not commit to too many extracurricular activities (buddy reads), but it‘s still important to try to meet your obligations and plan time for important things before deadlines. It never hurts to show them that all humans struggle with the same things and use the same ways to cope and plan better.😉 2y
saresmoore @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Amen! I have a pretty serious perfectionist streak, too, so seeing me be particularly human is always helpful. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @saresmoore Yes it is, it‘s very good for them to know mom has human foibles too. And really, your foible is reading more, I think they‘ll survive that peak behind the curtain. 2y

This was not sold to me as a sequel, and I never read Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. As a result, I actually had to shift gears when I realized that Dirk was the main character and Kate was at most a co-lead. Once I did, though, I was delighted. Adams is a master of this kind of writing, and he does not disappoint, and his narration, while dated (the recording sounds a little rough) is excellent. Would recommend!

Loved it, but I love all things Doug Adams. The writing is well paced, witty, and nonsensical in all the right spots, with some definite digs at the publishing industry. Dirk Gently is a wonderful slob of an incompetently competent detective. I still want to know how many rocks in Wales though.

Because these past few days have been spectacularly horrible (ever wonder what it's like to be told you have two months to move? I don't recommend it) it's a Douglas Adams and Dirk Gently kind of night while the little chicks act like wild animals (yay stress making my kids act {more} bizarre) and supper cooks. Roasted chicken and chicken and mushroom rice tonight. I would prefer chocolate with more chocolate, but good examples and all that.
