A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol | Charles Dickens
Marley was dead: to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker, and the chief mourner. Scrooge signed it. And Scrooge's name was good upon 'Change, for anything he chose to put his hand to. Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Mind! I don't mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country's done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Marley was as dead as a door-nail.

I‘ve watched many retellings of this and I have to say, I like the original much better. Older authors always describe everything so well. I liked the descriptions of the ghosts especially. 5⭐️

Got three words from A Christmas Carol.

+31 @Clwojick

Clwojick Just clarifying that each and every time one of those words is found in a book, you get the points. So if they‘re talking about a snow storm and they write snow 20 times, your points would be 20x10pt = 200 pts! The same word can be found multiple times in each book. ❤️ 2d

December is going to be even crazier than normal. 🤪 Three weekends of playing Mrs. Cratchit opposite my husband (and with my real daughter as my stage daughter, pictured here), & then two weeks in Florida, FINALLY taking my c/o 2020 grad's graduation trip to Disney & Universal. I'll likely read very little, but know that I'll be back in full force in January! Happy Holidays & Happy Reading!

It was fun listening to Tim Curry read this classic with my husband. We just love Curry's voice.

I've read this book multiple times in my teens, so it was great to revisit it. I love the themes of redemption, compassion, and the importance of love. There's a reason why this book is so popular. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hello all! I‘ve decided to give hosting a readathon a try as part of the #wintergames2021 this year and I‘d love for you to join me for the #blackwellsbookshelfreadathon

Blackwells, one of the UK‘s biggest bookshops based in Oxford, published its ‘five foot shelf‘ lists of ideal ways to fill a bookshelf for different occasions and they‘ve just released their Christmas list of children‘s and adults‘ festive classics.

Emilymdxn It‘ll run through the month of December. Here‘s a link to their page and a Google doc of all the books. I hope we all enjoy some Christmas classics and get some points for the winter games! #teammistletoemaniacs #teamgamesleighers @Clwojick @StayCurious (edited) 2w

I was kinda disappointed with this one. I really didn‘t get the feel that Scrooge‘s revelation was authentic; I felt like he only wanted to be a better person so he wouldn‘t die. I‘m hoping if I read it in the future I will enjoy it more.

Me encanto!

Charles Dickens‘ short story, “A Christmas Carol,” follows Ebeneezer Scrooge, an elderly miser. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his deceased business partner, who urges Scrooge to change his ways while he still has the chance. Later that night, he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. These apparitions give Scrooge insight into his actions and their outcome. As a result, Scrooge undergoes a...

liviakadezabek ...drastic transformation, becoming a generous and kind man—very different from his original self.
If you are looking for a book to put you in the Christmas spirit that you can read in one sitting, look no further than A Christmas Carol. It is the perfect book to read in front of the fireplace with a cup of coffee, hot chocolate, eggnog, or whatever else you fancy!
11mo
liviakadezabek The story is told in a third-person objective point of view. This means an anonymous voice narrates the novel and we do not get insight into the character's thoughts. Dickens develops this point of view by using pronouns such as “they,” “he,” or “she.”

We all know the story; Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three ghosts who show him his past, his present and, if he continues to live in the miserly, miserable, uncharitable way he currently does, his future. A well loved, well read classic that is the epitome of the #BeKind movement. Excellent narration by the suave Hugh Grant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
