#ReadAway2024#SeriesLove2024

Finished this on Sunday, it‘s my 2nd book for April #Roll100 (Book #100 which was “Any Kindle Unlimited”) I‘m glad I finally got around to reading it, it‘s just a very introspective cozy science-fiction/fantasy story. A quick read that I wanted to take my time with. I could relate to Dex‘s existential crisis & how they wondered what they were doing while they kept doing it & of course Mosscap is delightful.🍵🤖🤍⬇️

DebinHawaii A favorite quote:
“…because it is enough to exist in the world and marvel at it. You don‘t need to justify that, or even earn it. You are allowed to just live. That is all most animals do.”
Looking forward to Book 2!

#Wardens2024 #BookSpinBingo #ReadAway2024 #ReadMyRoom

Overall, I enjoyed this. Maybe I would‘ve enjoyed it more had I read the first book in the series. I kept getting all the characters (-MCs) all muddled.

This was my April #Roll100 - Book #100

The dice were good again this month. Here are my 3 #Roll100 picks for April

#100 was “Any Kindle Unlimited” on my list & I chose the tagged book which I have had “borrowed” on KU for ages but never seem to get around to reading.

#6 The Future (in my #BOTM stack)

#74 was “Any Audiobook” on my list & I went with this 5th book (& next for me) in the Lady Holmes series that my library Libby only has in audio format.

I am excited to read them!

April is nearly here! I refuse to believe it! March has been really busy for me so no pretty dice this month, just rolls from my lost in fey elf that doesn‘t like undead and is the tallest one in the group.

Here are the picks for April #roll100

Roll 1 = 100

Roll 2 = 6

Roll 3 = 74

claudiuo Thank you so much! Roll the Dice always makes the passing of another month a little bit more bearable! 4w
BarkingMadRead Woohoo!! 4w
Morr_Books I literally just started one of the #Roll100 March books, so hopefully it'll be a quick and enjoyable read, so I can get to the April picks 😀 3w
Allylu I‘ve got three great books for April: #100 The Lives of Puppets by T. J. Klune; #6 All of Us Villians by Amanda Frody; and #74 Happiness Falls by Angie Kim!! Yay! 3w
Ruthiella Awesome! So far I‘ve managed to read all the picks in previous months. Hoping I can keep it up. 🤞 3w
Kenyazero Sweet! Pretty sure I forgot to do March and maybe even February, so I'll definitely do April! 3w
TheAromaofBooks Hmmm two of my picks have the word “Phantom“ in the title?? Feels random 😂 An old horse story called The Phantom Roan, and the children's classic, The Phantom Tollbooth. 3w

Goal met, #100 for the year! I went with the audiobook since time is short. Turned out to be an excellent choice. Narrated by the author. He is pleasant and affirming with his mild Southern drawl - just as his books have always struck me. Highly recommend to any Tales of the City fans. 5 ⭐

Finished the year with 26 History, 15 Lit/Fiction, 20 Sci-Fi/Fantasy, & a mix of Science, Bio, Mystery, YA, Travel and other genres. Happy New Year everyone!

stevesbookstuf1 Just a note - we are back in Australia for a lengthy stay with family, so I lost a day for my goal! For you all back in the US, the date and time on the phone in my picture is correct. As my husband's best friend in Chicago likes to say - we are “in the future“! 1y

VALIS | Philip K. Dick

This is very painful for me to admit but have to be truthful: I love Philip K. Dick, he is one of my favorite authors but this book was too much for me. As much as I tried, I couldn't get it all. There are tons of great ideas that I liked but I found out lots of it went over my head and I just couldn't focus. I felt it is better to stop reading half way through than to just skim and finish it without doing it justice. Still a pick, even if DNF!

claudiuo @PuddleJumper This was my #100 picked up so many times, in April, August, October, also my November substitution.
(edited) 1y
claudiuo @TheAromaOfBooks my June #BookSpin, sadly my first DNF spin. 1y
TheAromaofBooks I have only read Man in the High Castle, and my husband actually really likes the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I keep meaning to check out more of his writing, but I may give this one a pass 😂 1y

claudiuo @TheAromaofBooks Do Androids Dream... is one of the books I would take with me on the island 😁 Thanks for mentioning Man in the High Castle, it is on my TBR shelf for so long, it is time to get to it. (edited) 1y
TheAromaofBooks I had mixed feelings about Castle. There isn't a lot of action, so it's more of a thoughtful kind of book. I don't know whether or not this was Dick's point, but I took away from it how the winners always write history, and those winners also write the alternate history - they tell us what WOULD have happened if they hadn't won (and it would have been BAD). But the question is... how much would really be different if the losers had won? ⬇ 1y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) So I enjoyed the thinking aspect of the book, but the story itself didn't do much for me haha 1y
PuddleJumper That's a shame! 1y
Bookwomble The Man in the High Castle is one of my favourite PKDs. There's lots of ideas about reality and unreality, intrinsic and extrinsic value. Famously, when he got to a decision point in his writing of this book, he used the I Ching oracle as a prompt, which explains it's unconventional structure. I do like VALIS, but it is a difficult book. There's a fair bit of autobiography in it, so knowing something of PKDs life and associates can help 🙂 1y
claudiuo @Bookwomble Thank for noting The Man in the High Castle as well, I really need to get to it. As for Valis, I knew it has some autobiographical stuff, it is one reason I wanted to read it. And I liked it a lot, I saved quite a few quotes. I stopped reading it cause I felt I am not understanding everything he says and I don't like skipping parts especially from a book I like. It is more like ISCILI (I stopped cause I liked it 😁), not plain DNF. 1y

PuddleJumper @Read4life Babysitting my six year old niece then taking the rest of the week off to recover 🤣 1y
claudiuo Thank you so much for posting these, you are awesome! As for books, I've read #25, closest is #30 Thin Air by Richard K. Morgan. Same for #92, I will use the ill-fated #100 which I still haven't read even if it came up 3 times already. Also #63 I read a couple months ago, closest is #59: The Last Librarian by Brandt Legg.
Thanks a lot again and wish you a restful end of the week!

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! 1y
PuddleJumper @claudiuo Wow! You are crushing it! 1y
Clwojick Seriously hoping you‘ll be continuing with this for next year, as I‘ve already started compiling two separate lists for my Chirp audiobook backlog, and my NetGalley backlog. I feel like I‘ll have better luck with the audiobooks, as opposed to doing physical books like I did this year. 1y

Here‘s my #BookSpinBingo board for October. #BookSpin is The Year of Lear and #DoubleSpin is the first half of Vanity Fair, which is one of my #Roll100 picks as well. I‘m only doing two #Roll100 for the month since VF is hefty and I already read #100 - the other is Murder Is Bad Manners. Fingers crossed for a good reading October!
