Pickpick

This is one of the best books I read all year! I had recently started wondering if I should quit reading fantasy altogether, as I realized that I‘ve been ending up underwhelmed more often than not. But then I picked up this gem of a book and it pushed all the right buttons ❤️ This is a really sweet, extremely well written story, and it deserves all the praise it‘s been getting! Magical realism at its best 👌 Thanks, @ruthemmielang !

Told my partner that this book gets a lot of love and is right up his alley. He said I should borrow it from the library, he‘d definitely like to check it out. Here I am 3 weeks later, still waiting for him to even glance at it. How do I get this man to read?!

GuiltyFeat In this case his instincts are correct. It's not terribly good. 7y
Aninski @GuiltyFeat Haha! I‘ve heard good and bad things about it, but haven‘t read it myself. It does sound like something he would like, but he‘d never shut up about it if it turned out to be bad. I won‘t insist too much 🙄😜 7y
monalyisha My husband very rarely reads novels. But every now & again, if he hears about a nonfic book he thinks sounds interesting, he'll tear through it - despite the length. This is incomprehensible to me. 😂 He flew through the tagged book & it's like, 600 pages. & sometimes he'll do a graphic novel. Otherwise, I share your pain, sister! 6y
Aninski @monalyisha Haha! I‘ve never actually thought of pushing a nonfiction his way, maybe that could be his thing too! I‘ll try to find something that might interest him. And the book you tagged sounds like something I would really enjoy, so thanks for mentioning that!! 😁 6y

This is the story of a woman who finds, in a library book, a paper with the name and phone number of a man, followed by “Call me whenever you want!”. She knows it‘s crazy, but she‘s intrigued and decides to call.

I‘m not a huge fan of chick lit, but this one is actually keeping me up past my bedtime! 🤓

1. I‘m a mood reader and buyer (so when I finally get to the last books I bought, I don‘t feel like reading them anymore 🤦‍♀️)
2. Evil question. One 5 star book.
3. As much as I love them in their books, I think I wouldn‘t really get along with either.
4. Tattoo!
5. A bad beginning might become a DNF, but loving the beginning of a book only to get disappointed later on is so frustrating! First half it is.

I went to Montreal today with a clear objective, knowing that I'm broke and should ignore all bookshops. Then I entered a bookshop. Then I saw this choosable path book where you get to play as Ophelia, Hamlet or King Hamlet. Then I thought "it's a bit expensive and I really shouldn't but whatever, I'll buy it".

I can't wait to start reading it, even if I'm clearly not very good at making choices. ?‍♀️

I was super excited to find this at my (very francophone) library! Then I got home and discovered how little love it gets here on Litsy 😱 Now wondering if I should even bother starting it. Decisions, decisions...

ReadingSusan My sister is obsessed with this book. She has read it four or five times. I couldn't make it past page 100. I think it is a very subjective book. 7y
LauraBeth I haven't read it but everyone I know who has, LOVES it! 7y
Kaye I read it long ago when it first came out. It's not normally the type of book I read, but I found it good enough to complete the book, which is saying a lot. I'm one of those that tends to move on from a book that doesn't hold my attention. Too many other books in the world to waste on one you don't enjoy. Give it a try and see how you like it. You can always return it if you don't. :) 7y
See All 10 Comments
TrishB I didn't like it - but you should probably make your own mind up as opinions are so varied! 7y
Foragingfantasy I've read about half, I enjoyed it but it's slow. I will finish at some point. I read that Neil Gaiman chose it as a book he would take if he was stranded on an island, so I'm determined to finish it. 7y
Jinjer Sounds interesting enough for me to stack it. 7y
Aninski @ReadingSusan @LauraBeth @Foragingfantasy Thanks for your input! I'm happy to hear that it's a "love it or hate it" type of book. With only 58% "pick" on Litsy, I thought it would be more of a "hate it or like it just enough to read until the end but kinda wish I was reading something else" type of book ? I'll give it a chance! 7y
Aninski @Kaye @TrishB I'm one of those people who feel really bad about giving up on books 😳 Since I often end up forcing myself to read until the end, I always think twice before starting something that a lot of people seem to dislike – especially when it's a big one! But I'll have to give this one a try, it seems to be truly loved by those who do like it! 7y
Aninski @Jinjer It does sound pretty interesting, right?! I decided to give it a chance and the first few pages really caught my attention. I hope it stays like that 😊 7y
Kaye I admire people who have the ability to complete a book, no matter what. I think the older I get, the less time I want to waste on a book I'm not getting anything out of. There are millions of other books out there waiting for a turn. :). 7y
