#WeeklyForecast

Just a few chapters in on the tagged. A BFF asked me to read Awake so we can discuss. I am going in with low expectations. Switching to print on the Giuffre and maybe alternate with the Austen when a break is necessary.

Ruthiella A good strategy. I like having multiple books going at once so I can mix it up like that too. 2w

A terrific look into the personalities around the discovery of the structure of DNA in 1953. James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins split a Nobel Prize in 1962. Rosalind Franklin, whose famous stolen x-ray photograph 51 provided a critical key, had died of ovarian cancer. But she was hardly mentioned. She was written out of the story. Later, Watson villainized her. This book attempts to correct the story.

IMASLOWREADER another book about this was thw double helix 2mo
Graywacke @IMASLOWREADER this one is a correction to Watson‘s take - The Double Helix. (Markel characterizes Watson‘s book as essentially a novel, because so much is inaccurate) 2mo
IMASLOWREADER double helix was the one i remember…it was an assigned reading for extra credit in highschool lol 2mo

Her Hidden Genius is about the life and work of Rosalind Franklin whose work was instrumental in discovering the structure of DNA. She faced many obstacles as a woman in science and this fictionalized account of her life includes not only her difficulties with colleagues in the lab but also her parents, who struggled to comprehend her passion for research. Yet she remained committed to her work despite everything ⬇️

mhillis I had been looking for a nonfiction book about Franklin, but this novel included enough scientific information for me. I remember learning about Watson and Crick in school but I don‘t think Franklin was mentioned, so I‘m glad I could learn more about her discoveries! 10mo
tpixie This is what I bought after reading the book. MB does such a great job with accurate historical fiction ! 10mo
mhillis @tpixie that‘s great, thank you for the recommendation!! 10mo

Not my favourite Benedict but I think the one about the woman I knew the least about going in. It's quite a sad tale, but typical for women of her time.

May‘s #BookSpin, which I did finish in May but am horribly behind on reviews.
