#NetGalley #ARC #MountARC

I was lucky to get an #audiobook ARC for the 12th Lady Hardcastle Mystery, Pub Day 6th May.

Do I read the books for the cosy mystery? No. I'm here for all the characters and the banter, especially between Maid Florence Armstrong and Lady Hardcastle. I was absolutely not disappointed. Loved every minute of the story and the audiobook!

Murder at the Spring Ball | Benedict Brown

Soft pick. I probably shouldn't have read this directly after an Agatha Christie. Where she is charming and witty, this was charming but silly. And the plotting and false leads weren't half as fiendish. I also didn't entirely buy the 1925 setting. However, the mystery and the unlikely grandfather & teenage boy detective team grew on me, and I might give the next book a go at some point.

Low pick.

First book in trilogy that suffers from Middle-Book-Syndrome. Could have been shorter (#audiobook was 24+ hours, I listened mainly at 2.0x); could have less POV (bit confusing and I'm saying that although the narrator did a good job); could read less YA - it's NOT YA, but the dialogue often reads like YA. Why a prologue plus some chapters from the POV of a character that doesn't play an active role in the rest of the book?

⬇️

julesG Liked the writing style, but again, it could have worked with less detailed backstory/history/descriptions. Villainous villains, court intrigue, some snide remarks about politics that is absolutely fitting for the current time. Bit of a romance subplot. TW: mildly gory details 1w

Leniverse Thanks for joining me in Easter Crime! You're halfway to being an honorary Norwegian now. 😁 5d
julesG @Leniverse 😁😁😁 I should do one of those genetic tests. I might be a quarter Norwegian or Swedish. 5d
Leniverse Well. Let's hope it's Norwegian then 😂 5d

Time for some classic #Eastercrime
I read (and watched) a lot of Agatha Christie in my teens, and the premise of this one sounds familiar, but I can't remember who the killer is or why. Hopefully it won't come back to me as I read 😅

Very unsettling mystery! And a fast read. I would have done the whole thing in one go if I hadn't made the mistake of starting it just before midnight. As it was I still read half the book before going nervously to bed 😅

I have the sushi cover, and I just have to say that it has absolutely nothing to do with the book. At all. Unlike the other one which features clues from the story.

BarbaraBB I have the left one. Very curious now. I‘ll read it soon 1w

This book has been described to me as cerebral crime/horror, and I sincerely hope that it's dark and unwholesome and full of fiendish puzzles.

BarbaraBB I bought this one too thanks to Stefanie‘s review. So intriguing! 1w

Twisted murder mystery with a book within a book.

It felt a bit long winded at times, probably because I had found out who the killer was very early on. Still enjoyed how Horowitz put it all together.
