Palimpsest How are you enjoying the Ellis Peters mysteries? I read two and one I had already seen the movie version of. Do they have to be read in order? I think I didn‘t continue because I wasn‘t finding all of them at half price books and wanted to read them in order of publication. I specifically like that they are historical/ medieval. 2w
Andrew65 @Palimpsest They are very enjoyable reads, love the tibalries between the monks! I wasn‘t reading them in order and they held up very well, but decided to go back and try reading them in order to see if any underlying themes come through. They are set at a very turbulent time in English History. (edited) 2w
Palimpsest @Andrew65 thanks! I think I am going to re-visit them. Two of my favorite books are The Name of the Rose and Morality Play, so I‘m happy when I come across books of that ilk. 2w

I‘ve got a lot going on right now and really shouldn‘t be starting any more books, especially #chunksters But this book called to me from its place on my shelves and who am I to ignore the call? 😂

Ericalambbrown I got sucked in with Natchez Burning and got stuck until I finished the trilogy. I know your pain! 😂 2w
LeahBergen Answer that call! 😆 2w
Melissa_J @Ericalambbrown this is a very good series! I wish I hadn‘t waited so long to pick this up. I could use a refresher on some stuff. 2w

I just need 4 more books by the end of this month to be right on schedule with my #goodreads #readingchallenge. Maybe I should lay off the #chunksters for a while. 🤔 Surely I have some quick reads on my shelves somewhere. 👀

Well that was fun! I am reading several #chunksters right now so slipping in a graphic novel lets me finish something! I think though technology has changed, many of the issues, friendships ,and challenges of young people going off to university are relatable to readers of many ages .Wanting to read this finally made me get Hoopla!

What is wrong with me? I haven‘t finished a book in 10 days. Ten! I‘ve started all but one of these and I‘m enjoying them all, but I just can‘t focus for long, and two of these MUST be read by the end of the month. 😭😭 Does this ever happen to anyone else? I‘m starting to get really stressed about it.

Mitch Oh no.. even the Noir one? I‘d try to finish the skinny ones first, foster a sense of achievement 🤞🏼 1mo
CaliforniaCay This happens to me all the time! I'm always reading multiple books, sometimes it will take me months to finish one because I keep jumping between books. I agree with @Mitch , sometimes it helps to read something short to feel some sense of accomplishment. Or reading poetry to cleanse my palate, or even listening to an audiobook sometimes helps pull me out of my slump. 1mo
Leftcoastzen Yes , reading multiple books , sadly #chunksters. Ahhhhhhhhh, can‘t finish anything!Think I might grab some poetry like @CaliforniaCay to feel a sense of accomplishment finishing something. 1mo

MelissaSue81 I had a rough spell last month where I was only finishing audiobooks. I had a few books that really bogged me down and I some busy weeks. I read a couple shorter books and then ended up finding a couple really good ones that got me out of the slump. 1mo
GingerAntics Henry IV Part 2 is not nearly as engaging as part 1, so I wouldn‘t be too worried about it. It‘s hard for everyone to get through. It could be stressing you out and dragging you down on the rest of your reading. 1mo
LiteraryinLititz I‘ve been in the middle of several books lately too! I totally feel you. 1mo
rretzler This just happened to me, so I feel your pain. Fortunately, I kept reading and did finish one of the three I was reading and then went on to finish four books in five days! Usually, when I‘m in a slump, I just put them aside and start on something that I think I‘ll enjoy a little better but it wasn‘t happening for me at the beginning of the month. Hang in there. I‘m sure it will get better (edited) 1mo
Eyelit Nothing wrong with you! Slumps happen, as frustrating as they are. I hope this passes and you have less stress! 1mo
mcipher All. The. Time. Sometimes I read one or two books for months and start and finish three others in between before I get back to them. Reading life is weird. 1mo
RainyDayReading This is exactly what I‘m experiencing right now. I‘ve started so many books that I‘ve been enjoying! I just haven‘t finished any of them.... 1mo
DGRachel @Mitch I‘ve just been so tired that I can‘t focus on reading at all, even the short stories are too long to hold my attention. I start reading, make it maybe 5 pages, and fall asleep. But, I am definitely going to take your advice, grab the skinniest books first and try to get that sense of accomplishment for encouragement. 🥰 1mo
DGRachel @CaliforniaCay I‘ve been doing multiple formats just to make progress. I have Changeless in print, Kindle, and audiobook and have flipped back and forth! 1mo
DGRachel @GingerAntics Henry IV is done and was actually probably the thing I was least stressed about because I had the audio and breaking it down into one act per Sunday was cool. Since Act V was only 30 minutes, I finished it today just so I could feel a little better about myself and actually finishing something. 🥰 1mo
DGRachel @Leftcoastzen @MelissaSue81 @LiteraryinLititz @rretzler @Eyelit @mcipher @RainyDayReading Thank you all, too, for the support and encouragement. It‘s nice to know I‘m not completely crazy or alone in this feeling. 😘😘 1mo
Mitch @DGRachel Be kind to yourself 😘 1mo
GingerAntics I‘m thinking that‘s getting finished today, too. 1mo

Does anyone else get fatigued when reading #chunksters? I‘m looooving this book, it‘s intense and interesting and pretty fast paced, but I‘m also itchy for something new. But if I take a break I‘m worried I won‘t make it back. I‘m not the only one this happens to, right?

emtobiasz Most of the books I DNF‘d as a teen/college student were 1000+ page chunksters. I‘d get 3/4 of the way through them, and then just... lose interest. Now I rarely pick anything up over 500 pages🤷‍♀️ 1mo
BookHoarder32 I get itchy if I don't finish a book. I think it's a mood thing - in the mood to read vs in the mood to finish a book or start one. 1mo
Owlizabeth It doesn‘t help that I started rewatching Fringe and just want to do that! 🤪 1mo

Emilymdxn I always do chunksters as audiobooks as I find it gives me more momentum! I always force myself to finish long books when they‘re physical too but I can slow down to a crawl and take weeks 1mo
Freespirit I am a reader of chunky books...they have to be riveting to keep my interest over a long period. They do slow down the total number of books in a challenge, but most of my favourite books have been big books! 1mo
Zelma I usually starting reading a nonfiction (or whatever is opposite the current read) in this situation, and read both at same time. I can get a break from the chunkster but still not abandon it for something that will take all my attention. 1mo
cariashley Me!! 🙋🏼‍♀️ Itchy is the perfect word! 1mo
MellieAntoinette Word! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️ 1mo
Cathythoughts Absolutely... it‘s good to get to the of the long ones .... just as you say , to start something new ... time 1mo
