A Court of Wings and Ruin
A Court of Wings and Ruin | Sarah J. Maas
Looming war threatens all Feyre holds dear in the third volume of the #1 New York Times bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin's maneuverings and the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit-and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well. As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords-and hunt for allies in unexpected places. In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the earth will be painted red as mighty armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy them all.

This is one heck of a series. Leading up to anticipated events, thowing curveballs left, right and center, SJM draws such an imaginative world that you feel every colour, texture and emotion. A rollercoaster of pages flying by! Just when you can't see any hope, the devastation is too much, she makes your eyes leak just a little bit more!

Book 3 is all over the place - in a good way! It picks up soon after the end of #2.

My complaint is the timeline is too fast. Books 2&3 take less than a year. In that time she gets combat skills, figures out high level magic, masters political maneuvering, and handles the trauma thrown at her. Too much too fast, yet it's all a ton of fun. I love the characters, the maneuvering, the world building. Just suspend a little disbelief on timelines. 🙂

Whoa! This one just about gave me heart failure! This third installment of the series felt like nonstop action. I‘m not including any spoilers, but I did not see several aspects of the final battle coming. I definitely need a breather before the next book.

I think this was my favorite of the series yet! The characters and their intertwining relationships are so compelling, sharp, and full of emotion. I‘m not usual a fantasy reader, but these are so well written, they keep me coming back for more. Are they a little predictable? Sure. But I love them all the same! And this is my 200th book of 2022 and a 699 pg one at that! And gave me my 6th #BookspinBingo @Thea

What do we do for love? Reading books we don't like for example.

These kind of books just aren't my kind of jam. So I just read this book because Wifey gave it to me. TBH, after a few hundert pages I actually thought it wasn't as bad as expected, and that I could read the following books as well.

But then it all got so ridiculous. I wasn't sure if I should laugh at this Hunger Games mock-off or simply cry. No offense to those who like it!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Awww 🥰 I‘m mailing you a letter tomorrow! Fingers crossed that it gets there!! 🤞🤞 3mo

I have been reading this for two months and while I enjoyed the first two in this series, l am going to tap out. I like the relationships developed in the prior novels, but everything in this one is very big and very anticlimactic. I read a summary and I guess this isn‘t my thing even though I really wanted it to be. #bookjournal (How do you guys deal with DNF shame? Because I am feeling it right now.)

Bookgoil I don‘t often dnf but I wish I did now on the last two in that series that came out. I didn‘t mind that one it gets exciting at the end like all Maas books but I‘ve fully given up on the author as each book I read gets worse to me so I think it‘s time to move on. I sometimes retry a dnf later if I think it‘s a mood thing. One I felt the exact same way and another I loved so much just depends. 6mo
wisherwishinguponastar @Bookgoil I am just glad to know that I am not the only person. I think Maas does relationships really well, but that all got put to the side for the gigantic conflict. That part of her story was just kind of dry and a little wishy washy. 6mo
Bookgoil @booksellerofyourdiscontent I think her writing is getting worse over time not better 🤣 and she‘s trying to add a lot more “smut” in these later books now. (edited) 6mo

I love this world; how there is different countries with their own magic.

Writing was sometimes annoyingly repetitive and no room was left for reader to understand something her-/himself.

I love to be afraid for characters but you could trust no one important is going to die so that definitely took that feeling away.

Quick paced once again.
Brilliant scheming by Feyre who might go on to regret it over time. Love how Lucien just joins on to the group as an add on.

The Acheron sisters are a bit tedious at times.

The battle with Hybern rages and reaches it's climax. Quite spicy at times but definitely a tone less than ACOMAF

Loved meeting and reading about new High Lords and regions and how they come together to overcome threats looming.

Book Three of A Court of Thorns and Roses series. With the threat of Hybern closer than ever, Feyre faces war and shifting alliances. Like it‘s predecessor, ACOWAR meanders and could be 200 pages shorter. But where ACOMAF offsets the length of 700 pages with exciting romance and new characters, this book chooses action, battles, and strategy. I just happen to prefer the romance part.

This book had so much character development & a well played out story line! It's amazing to know there are 2 more books in this series seeing as this one could have been a beautiful ending. I'm really excited that it doesn't end here because there is so much more id like to read about pertaining to everyone's lives. I feel like we all have a little Elaine, Feyre, Nesta, Mor, & Amren in us! They are all a unique embodiment of a specific emotion.

This series is amazing. The fanart, cosplays, TikTok‘s, and fan-fictions are a testament to how wonderful this series truly is. There‘s lovable characters, not so lovable characters, action, drama, romance, angst, & adventure. This is the last book written solely from Feyre‘s perspective, and while I will miss Feyesand being the main POV I‘m itching to dive into these supporting characters. Idk who I love more- Az, Cass, or Lucien lol but whew 🥵

5feet.of.fury I don‘t understand the point of Lucien but I agree with the rest 😂 loved it. 9mo
BooksNBowls @5feet.of.fury I always had a soft spot for my baby fox 🥺 when I was reading ACOTAR I was thinking to myself like why does she like tamlin when Lucien is clearly superior 😂 when I finished MAF I was like he WILL be converted to team Feyre 😡 but between cass and az I really can‘t decide between the two 🥴 9mo
5feet.of.fury agreeee in book 1 Lucien > Tamlin - at least he was just a straight up AHole when the situation called for it. But, yeah, 🦇🦇🦇 > everyone. I really didn‘t get Lucien‘s storyline, it just went nowhere for me. Idc about Elain, he didn‘t even find the queen, he didn‘t help with Tamlin, he‘s always captured… I‘m sure SJM will change my mind again somehow.. 9mo

Hello, I have let this book consume me entirely.
It was worth it.

The beginning is diabolical, just such good story telling. We do at points, IMO, get too many things happening, some pay off, some don‘t, some things I wish happened a bit differently. So many stressful and frustrating moments of everyone acting like they are the only person out there. But incredibly satisfying and beautiful, all in all.

5feet.of.fury I could have done without Tamlin‘s vague redemption arc but maybe that‘s a “me problem”, I‘ll go look in the Ouroboros about it. 9mo
kplovesbooks So glad you liked this one!!!! ? It was my favorite! This far. So much happening indeed!! I felt like it was nonstop on every page. ...and "I'll go look in the Ouroborus about it." ???? 9mo
kplovesbooks @5feet.of.fury Forgot to say...nah, I was good without that too. Tamlin is just a giant NO. 😤 9mo

5feet.of.fury @kploves I loved it so much! I know we have diff view on 🌶 but I wanted more from the 1st throw down when Feyre got back. But the story really delivered. I‘m going to pause before the next 2 but… I‘m all in. Sjm is going to have to work hard if I am to care about elain/Lucien tho 😑 9mo
5feet.of.fury @kplovesbooks tamlin is a 🤡 and I can GET that he didn‘t tell Feyre he wasn‘t with Hybern, but that Lucien didn‘t know…. Inconsistent af. He should have been a whole villain 9mo
kplovesbooks @5feet.of.fury Well to be honest too much 🌶️ isn't good for this single girl's emotional health!! 🤦😂 But I was hoping you were going to be into this one even though it was less of it. I had so many thoughts after because the STORY was just so intense!! And the quotes. 😍😍 Omg. I think my nonbookish friends on Snapchat are sick of me posting quotes and stuff about this series but I am obsessed with it! 😂 9mo
kplovesbooks @5feet.of.fury A friend said her phone autocorrected Tamilin's name to tampon and that it was perfect. 😂 Smj really has a redemption thing going...I mean Rhysand I knew from the get go wasn't all bad. Then Jurian shocked me. But Tamlin?! Girl quit. No. Let him be bad and end it. We don't feel sorry for him at all. 9mo
kplovesbooks @5feet.of.fury Oh! Elain/Lucien. I honestly didn't even like Elain at all until the tail end of this book when she comes out of nowhere with that knife. She annoyed me beforehand. Lucien's okay. There's talk that it might end up being Elain and Azriel though. 🤷 I warn you, the next book, Frost, is not as exciting. Nothing much happens, it's just Christmasy-ish... except there is a super 🌶️ scene you will enjoy. 😂😂 9mo
5feet.of.fury @kplovesbooks I‘ll probably save the next for #Wintergames I got what I came for on this one 💯 9mo

Bk1 of March is done. Gonna be hitting you with a few reviews, spent most of the weekend reading instead of on my phone! So much drama and butthurt. Ex drama, to a ridiculous, juvenile degree that seems very out of character for one of the ex's (yes, there are a couple of ex's causing drama). Friend zone drama. Lies and secrets causing butthurt amongst friends drama. Closeted sexuality drama. Sibling rivalry drama. To quote the inimitable Molly Michon from The Stupidest Angel, in reading this, I felt like the receptionist at a rehab center. ⏬

LitStephanie I still love the series overall, but if this had been a standalone novel, I probably would have bailed. 9mo

I finished this library loan today…another story that kept me interested, but the ending doesn‘t have me in a rush to get the next one. Don‘t get me wrong…I‘ll still continue, but I may be able to squeeze a few books in between before feeling the need to read the next one. Still not great writing in my opinion, but the story itself is gripping.

LitStephanie Same. Even though I have become attached to the characters so was happy everyone survived (two of them actually brought back to life), it is kind of ridiculous that they all did. I thought the writing of the first two was better. I just finished and posted my review so now going back to see what other fans of the series think. 9mo
