Lost Lake
Lost Lake | Sarah Addison Allen
Now a New York Times BestsellerFrom the author of the beloved bestseller Garden Spells comes a beautiful, haunting story of old loves and new, and the power of the connections that bind us forever...The first time Eby Pim saw Lost Lake, it was on a picture postcard. Just an old photo and a few words on a small square of heavy stock, but when she saw it, she knew she was seeing her future. That was half a life ago. Now Lost Lake is about to slip into Eby's past. Her husband George is long passed. Most of her demanding extended family are gone. All that's left is a once-charming collection of lakeside cabins succumbing to the Southern Georgia heat and damp, and an assortment of faithful misfits drawn back to Lost Lake year after year by their own unspoken dreams and desires. It's a lot, but not enough to keep Eby from relinquishing Lost Lake to a developer with cash in hand, and calling this her final summer at the lake. Until one last chance at family knocks on her door.Lost Lake is where Kate Pheris spent her last best summer at the age of twelve, before she learned of loneliness, and heartbreak, and loss. Now she's all too familiar with those things, but she knows about hope too, thanks to her resilient daughter Devin, and her own willingness to start moving forward. Perhaps at Lost Lake her little girl can cling to her own childhood for just a little longer... and maybe Kate herself can rediscover something that slipped through her fingers so long ago.One after another, people find their way to Lost Lake, looking for something that they weren't sure they needed in the first place: love, closure, a second chance, peace, a mystery solved, a heart mended. Can they find what they need before it's too late? At once atmospheric and enchanting, Lost Lake shows Sarah Addison Allen at her finest, illuminating the secret longings and the everyday magic that wait to be discovered in the unlikeliest of places.

I‘m behind on the #letstravelaugust challenge so I‘ll try to catch up this weekend!
I recently finished this book. If you like Sarah Addison Allen you will not be disappointed. Lost Lake is a place where you can rent a cabin #lakeside. It also holds a power to bring family together. Sweet story with a healthy dose of magical realism.

This was my first Sarah Addison Allen, and it won't be my last. I loved the characters. More than that, I loved the way the book made me feel - I don't think I can do it justice by trying to describe it, so I won't try. I always love a touch of magical realism in a story - and the magical realism here was woven in perfectly, I think. Going to be hard not to just read another of her books to fill the void left by this one!

#📚🔜 #dayone #EmojiNov #NoteworthyNovember #NovTBR These are the books at the top of my list for this month, if this slump finally buggers off. I'm not even putting up my stats for October, they're too embarrassing! I need to get my finger out and start hitting the books, I've still got to read 42 books before New Years to hit my GoodReads goal. Normally that wouldn't be an issue, but this slump is kicking my arse!😩

On a work trip tonight and tried two audiobooks (on the right). Lionheart is very hard to follow with lots of history and characters; a shame as it started so well. Kings Curse seems less overwhelming but not feeling it yet. So I pulled out an impulse buy-Lost Lake-and am trying to read it in my hotel room now. Hmph. Not quite how I anticipated this evening. Oh well. Good night Litsy friends.

TrishB Lionheart is truly worth the effort 👍 2y
Itchyfeetreader Not read Lionheart but have read a couple of others of hers. If you are not familiar with the period I'd recommend scribbling a quick cast list to keep with you but if like the rest of you may it through the first introducing everyone pages then you'll be in for a treat. 2y
JillR Lionheart was a slow start for me too, but then I really enjoyed it 2y
Texreader @Itchyfeetreader @TrishB @JillR Thanks y'all! I decided to keep going with Lionheart thanks to your comments. I'm still struggling a bit with all the characters (and the narration leaves a bit to be desired) but I think I'll stick with it. It has a lot of promise. 2y

Cathythoughts Yes I've read Ragnar Jonassons books set in Iceland. Very good ! He has a new one , White Blind, coming out in September. I really like our hero, Ari Thor. And The Icelandic setting is interesting, especially the town cut off except for a tunnel & when it snows, cut off completely. I love the flow of his writing. 👍 2y
Jess_Read_This @Cathythoughts I can't wait for the new one! He's definitely a favorite author of mine. When Ari buys himself a book on Christmas Eve it just broke my heart. That quote and scene really stood out in Snow Blind for me. 2y
Cathythoughts What about Lost Lake ? I have never read this author? 2y

Cathythoughts I have the new Ari Thor ordered on my kindle. It's out in September, great to find a fellow fan 👍👍 2y
Jess_Read_This @Cathythoughts She's totally different than Ragnar Jonasson. Not even the same genre. She has a whimsical writing style and incorporates a few magical circumstances in her modern day stories set in the South. Each book usually involves a family tragedy, secret, and the eventual overcoming of the circumstance and finding love along the way. She does have a gorgeous writing style though. Just very different than Jonasson's. 2y
Jess_Read_This @Cathythoughts I love that it comes out In September! I last heard October! But I was going to order a print copy from Book Depository. (edited) 2y
Cathythoughts Cathythoughts@Jess_Read_This This is my attempt at tagging ( not so up to date on all this, however, live & learn ). I will give Allen a try soon and get back to you 😉 2y
Jess_Read_This @Cathythoughts Oh neat! This one is one of her newer ones. My favorites are really her older books-I'll tag them here. 2y
Jess_Read_This @Cathythoughts I really liked Garden Spells. 2y
Jess_Read_This @Cathythoughts Let me know what you think of whichever one you try! She's got a few more but I tagged the ones that stood out for me. 2y
Cathythoughts Great. Thankyou. I've stacked Garden Spells. However, as soon as I finish It ( longer than War & Peace I'd say ) I'm onto Pachinko, and then I'll take up Garden Spells. The joys of Litsy !! I'm finding great books 👍 2y

I just had to duck in to B&N (such a travesty for a book nerd!) while doing errands this morning to grab some baby books for an upcoming shower at work. On my way to the checkout line, this one was calling my name...bargain priced hardcover from an author I always enjoy? Yes please! Plus, I had realized during February's #riotgrams challenge that I needed more green books for making rainbow stacks. Double score! 🤓🤓 Happy Sunday!

If you are familiar with Sarah Addison Allen, this one will be just what you expect. It's sweet, magical & has strong female characters. I love Allen's books & this is no exception. This one isn't my favorite, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you are not familiar with Sarah Addison Allen, start with another of her books (Sugar Queen, Garden Spells, The Peach Keeper, The Girl Who Chased the Moon) & if you like it, then read this one.

Not my favorite of hers, but after two reeeeally long, somewhat demanding reads, this was a nice palate cleanser. Light, romantic, predictable, magical realism, strong sense of place, female friendship, food and a happy ending. It's set in the South, and the reader of the audiobook did a really nice range of voices including one that sounded just like Jessica Tandy.

AMolnar83 LOVE her books! They are my go to when I need something cozy and familiar. 3y
Imagineannie @AMolnar83 I've now read all except for, I think, the first one. The two with the sisters (I'm blanking in titles - one sister is a cook, I think her name is Claire) are my favorites. Garden Spells! There, I remembered one! 3y

A hauntingly beautiful tale proving that there really is life after the death of a loved one. This book gives the magic of storytelling substance and verve. It'll reignite that flame of ernest belief in magic rarely lives past the age of 10. And reminds you that the future isn't written yet.
