Conspiracies abound in this surreal and yet all-too-believable thriller in which a deadly underground game might just be altering reality itself, set in the same world as the popular Rabbits podcast. "A taut mystery for a time of conspiratorial madness."--Cory Doctorow, author of How to Destroy Surveillance Capitalism It's an average work day. You've been wrapped up in a task, and you check the clock when you come up for air--4:44 p.m. You check your email, and 44 unread messages have built up. With a shock, you realize the date is April 4--4/4. And when you get in your car to drive home, your odometer reads 44,444. Coincidence? Or have you just seen the edge of a rabbit hole? Rabbits is a mysterious alternate reality game so vast it uses the entire world as its canvas. Since the game started in 1959, ten iterations have appeared and nine winners have been declared. The identities of these winners are unknown. So is their reward, which is whispered to be NSA or CIA recruitment, vast wealth, immortality, or perhaps even the key to the secrets of the universe itself. But the deeper you get, the more dangerous the game becomes. Players have died in the past--and the body count is rising. And now the eleventh round is about to begin. Enter K--a Rabbits obsessive who has been trying to find a way into the game for years. That path opens when K is approached by billionaire Alan Scarpio, rumored to be the winner of the sixth iteration. Scarpio says that something has gone wrong with the game and that K needs to fix it before Eleven starts, or the whole world will pay the price. Five days later, Scarpio is declared missing. Two weeks after that, K blows the deadline: Eleven begins. And suddenly, the fate of the entire universe is at stake.

Rabbits: not perfect, but perfectly enjoyable.
🌟🌟🌟🌟
Nightbooks: a dark Grimm retelling, wonderful for middle grade. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reading:
The Rook: still intrigued… hoping for quicker movement soon..
No one is Talking: still kind of bored, waiting for the shift.

Acquired: Under Lock & Skeleton Key and Post-Traumatic. Anyone read these?

These are the 3 books I‘m reading right now…

I‘m enjoying Rabbits immensely, and am about 2/3 done. It‘s an audio book, and I also give kudos to the narrator!

I‘m finally reading the Rook… it was recommended to me so long ago. I‘m also loving this so far.

And then there was the Lockwood. I‘m just… first, I feel like it‘s false advertising, though I haven‘t finished it so maybe “it‘s getting there.” (The rest below👇🏽) #RealLifeBookGroup

Avanders Is this going to be an examination of the impact of social media on our lives? And second, idk, it feels a little pretentious so far. Though I have, I admit, lol‘d a few times. Still reading… (edited) 3mo
NovelGirl82 I‘ve had The Rook on my tbr forever and still haven‘t gotten to it & have looked at Rabbits several times since it released and haven‘t decided to pick it up yet. 3mo
DogEaredBooks Rook is one of my favorite books/series. The third one is coming out this fall 3mo
Avanders @NovelGirl82 it‘s so good so far (the Rook) — I‘m so tired (perpetually these days), but it keeps me up at night anyway! And even though Rabbits wasn‘t perfect, I found it so enjoyable to read!! @DogEaredBooks oooh so exciting!! 👏🏽👏🏽 3mo

This one is exciting and hard to put down. It's basically a computer game played IRL and the players are going missing. This may not be everyone's jam. I think #audiobook is probably the way to go with this one since it started out as a podcast.

One of the best books I've ever read in this genre. So many books, games, and movies I love pop up in this story. 💚

On the surface it seems like a book about a secretive video game, but soon other dimensions are introduced, mysterious people keep popping in and out of the story, and the corruption and conspiracy grow with each new chapter. Rabbits is a definite thrill ride and I loved every second.

vivastory 🤘👏 I'm glad you liked it! 5mo
Addison_Reads @vivastory It's a brilliant piece of literature. I'm surprised it hasn't received more praise. Your comparison to Blake Crouch and Ernest Cline books was very accurate and exactly how I felt while reading it. 5mo
vivastory I'm really surprised it hasn't received more buzz too. It was the only book I've read since RP1 to give me similar vibes. 5mo

Christyco125 I wonder if this based on the podcast or at least in the same universe. 5mo
Addison_Reads @Christyco125 I'm not sure but I'd listen to a podcast that was based on this book. 5mo
Christyco125 I found it. I knew it looked familiar. I listened to his other shows. https://www.rabbitspodcast.com/listen 5mo

I forgot to post my #12booksof2021 selections for #November & #December As a mood reader it is extremely rare for me to sign on to any challenge but in Nov I surpassed my goal for #nonficttionNovember of 4 NF books by reading 6 & I also met my goal for the delightful #cloakanddaggerchristmas Honorable mentions for Nov/Dec:Vet's Daughter, B is for Burglar, Girl 11, Dear Reader.

vivastory Although my posts turned into more #120booksof2021 I had a blast reflecting on an otherwise grim year. Thanks @andrew65 6mo
RaeLovesToRead Well done on Cloak and Dagger challenge! Hope 2022 is less grim 🤞🤞 6mo
vivastory @RaeLovesToRead How did you do on the challenge? I added a couple of the books you read to my TBR. Thanks! I really appreciate it. I hope you have a great year too. 6mo
RaeLovesToRead I managed 5 prompts in the end (including watching a mystery on TV) - The Honjin Murders was delightfully convoluted and well worth a read, but I didn't think much of the Real Town murders. My bookspin & doublespin this month are mysteries though, so cloak and dagger January begins now 😄📚🎉 6mo
BiblioLitten Now nonfiction November sounds like a good challenge for me. Might try that this year. 6mo

🎧📚 This sounded like a fantastic book. Great idea!

How many times did the MC tell her partner she was “fine” when she was anything but? There was no character development, the characters had no depth.

I waited a few days to see if my opinion might change. It was very like Ready Player One but lacked the charm. It had interesting ideas & I plan to listen to the podcast as I hear it‘s better. The book was ok.

Extra star for the cover 😁

#Silence is key to the players of Rabbits. Is Rabbits real? Are the players in between iterations now? What does Jeff Goldblum have to do with it & why did I dream about him a couple of nights before I started reading Miles' book? Will I actually write a review of the book? Who knows! 🐇#GratefulHarvest @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Twainy On my library hold list since ….August 26. 😆 says 8 more weeks. 7mo
vivastory @Twainy I really liked it. It's like a mix between Blake Crouch & Ready Player One but with 90s references instead of 80s references. I looked at the author note afterwards & noticed he's produced several podcasts. One of them, Black Tapes, I've been meaning to check out for awhile. I hope you get your hold soon 7mo

If you like the Podcast you will love this book. It's as bonkers as the podcast and just as interesting. I love the entire premise of a giant secret game and the conspiracy behind it.

This was a wild and crazy ride. If you enjoy mind-bending, reality twisting, conspiracy driven gaming adventures, you‘ll undoubtedly enjoy this book. And if you‘re a fan of Ready Player One, you‘ll definitely like this book which will have you questioning everything you think you know. The characters certainly do.

Rabbits is a mysterious real-world game that players aren‘t supposed to talk about. In fact, no one knows if it‘s really happening. I feel like if Ernest Cline, Blake Crouch, and Hank Green‘s books all got together and had a baby, it would be Rabbits. I felt the ending was a little rushed, but I loved this.

Hooked_on_books @vivastory I think you‘d like this one. 12mo

I read the ending twice and still don‘t understand the resolution. I was satisfied with the ending, but it‘s been a few hours and I‘m still heartbroken for the one character. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

3/5

K is obsessed with the secretive game Rabbits, but as the 11th round is beginning, K learns the game needs to be fixed before the world is destroyed. I didn't realize this was a spin-off from a podcast, and it probably would have made more sense with that context, but I do think worked as a stand alone. The tension that the (possibly) multiverse elements create were interesting, but a times those same elements led to the plot being abrupt.

Alfoster Agree! It was a little too weird for me!😫 12mo

I made it to 60% of this book and couldn't take all of the swear words, with constant running in circles. I did like the beginning and the premise but I felt it went on too long. What fascinated me, is in California there was a similar game people were pulled into and they didn't know who controlled it. If I go back and finish it I will update my review.

Pick, mostly
Young gamer, known only as “K”, has the ability to recognize patterns in seemingly random coincidences. Because of this skill, K quickly becomes immersed in a dangerous underground game, Rabbits.
The clues and plot are not always easy to follow, but navigating the adventure along with K was a fun ride.

From #Netgalley #ARC I'm currently reading Rabbits by Terry Miles love it so far, an underground world of gaming and conspiracy, definitely a pageturner and unique writing style I like that includes a variety of characters.
This Close to Okay is slow building but interesting.

Damn. Just finished this and my head feels like it might explode. Rabbits is a game. Possibly ancient, very mysterious, definitely deadly. If you like conspiracy theories, connections, coincidences, weird science, video games, pop culture references, and a dash of horror, you‘ll like this. It has Ready Player One/Fight Club/Matrix vibes but brings its own brand of insanity as well. I‘m not sure it all made sense, but reading it was a wild ride. 😳

Bette This sounds great. Thanks! 👍 1y
