Interesting article in today's The Observer

https://observer.co.uk/news/national/article/the-real-salt-path-how-the-couple-b...

I haven't read the book. I'm just here sharing the link.

Leniverse I almost want to un-know this information 🙈🙉 but at the same time it's so wild it becomes fascinating 1w
Tamra Yikes, that is terrible! I hope they are guilted & shamed into making it right. Then she can write another book to recoup the 💰and no doubt she would too. (edited) 1w
julesG @Leniverse I forwarded the link to another friend who's working at a bookshop. She's contemplating moving it to the Fiction section. 1w

kspenmoll Maybe I should throw this unread book in my #TBR in the trash. (edited) 1w
Bookwomble I haven't read the book (and won't), but thank you for linking to the article. The journalist has done a short YT report which includes footage of one of the victims of Winn's embezzlement taking about the impact of her crimes, which is very moving: https://youtu.be/UY2ivdm9obY?si=VVHeC3xG3-ialRWX 1w
squirrelbrain I saw this headline but haven‘t read the full article yet….very intriguing! 1w
Bookwormjillk This is wild. Surprised someone didn‘t do a background check before filming at least. 1w
rockpools I‘m with @Leniverse on this one. Can I not know, please? I really loved this book when I read it, so I‘m quite sad. I guess it opens the door for someone else to write the great South West Coast Path memoir…. 1w
quietlycuriouskate Wtf? 🤬 1w
CoffeeK8 I read this book with my bookclub and really found it off putting, maybe some of this is why 1w
RosePressedPages I‘d never heard of this book before but wow that is terrible and fascinating 1w

@dabbe
I do not care that i have searched high and low for actual antifa group and can‘t find one to join! I am now a proud founding member of the #antifabookclub
Anyone can join- i do not care what you read, when you read or how you read….
#wdncw
#readingispolitical #overcomingevilempires

AmyG I am reading Cultish….so I already started. 2w
Chrissyreadit @AmyG 🎉🎉🎉🎉 2w
dabbe I'm in! 🙋‍♀️ Does reading about fanatic serial killers count? 2w
See All 53 Comments
Deblovestoread Yes! I‘ll let you know what I‘m reading soon. 2w
IriDas How anarchical of you. 😊 Sounds like a great book club. Count me in. (edited) 2w
Amiable Hell yeah! 🙌🏼 @dabbe, are you reading this one? I just bought it but haven‘t started yet: 2w
Prairiegirl_reading I‘m in! I love this! 2w
lil1inblue Yes, please! 🤩 Count me in! Right now, I'm reading this (among others, of course). 2w
ncsufoxes Genius, I wish I‘d thought of it sooner. I just started reading the tagged book. About the Klan trying to take over the US in the 1920s. It‘s also slightly disturbing how some of it can relate to today. 2w
AllDebooks Love this. Please count me in. I'm reading 2w
Suet624 Thank you for starting this. I already have some books. I‘m committed to reading, but once I‘m done with this summer reading, I‘ll be participating more in this club. 2w
TheBookHippie I‘m in I am going to join @Librarybelle in her over the fourth reading of 2w
TheBookHippie Then I‘m getting my stack from the library on how to do like the black panthers and get my kids fed ✊🏼 2w
TheBookHippie @AmyG word … that book freaked me right out. 2w
Chrissyreadit @Suet624 it‘s about any book you are reading!! my plan is to identify anti fascism in some way shape or form no matter the book just because!!! so just share the hashtag when you read something that fits any way you deem it to! 2w
dabbe @Amiable Not yet, but it's stacked! I'm still reading one that @AmyG sent to me, and it's getting good! 2w
AmyG I am happy you are enjoying it @dabbe 2w
JenReadsAlot @ncsufoxes That was good and a bit terrifying! 2w
Chrissyreadit @ncsufoxes That book sounds intense and important- i am stacking it. 2w
Amiable @ncsufoxes I read that one last summer —a great read! And also disturbingly relevant to the present time. 2w
ElizaMarie Love this! And love how much my #TBR will grow because of this :) 2w
peaKnit I‘m in! What in the dumpster fire is going on!? 2w
kspenmoll I am in too. Sounds perfect! I will join in. @Librarybelle @TheBookHippie in reading Common Sense July 4. Copy we have is highlighted 😀 (edited) 2w
CBee I‘m also in! If my reading slump ever goes away 😭😭 2w
CBee @Amiable @dabbe are you both fascinated by serial killers like I am? 🫣 2w
dabbe @CBee Pervertally (created a new adverb!), yes. CHARLES MANSON? TED BUNDY? CRIMINAL MINDS? 👋🏻

My drink has kicked in. There already IS a word: PERVERTEDLY. 🤦🏼‍♀️
(edited) 2w
CBee @dabbe @Amiable I wrote a research paper on serial killers for my abnormal psych class, years ago. I got an A 😁 So yeah, a bit fascinated lol 2w
dabbe @CBee Ooh, do you still have it? I'd LOVE to read it!!!! 2w
CBee @dabbe I don‘t - that was gosh, 1998 or so? I‘m flattered you‘d like to read it 😊 2w
CBee @dabbe please remind me sometime to tell you about the literary magazine my mom started at her school. 2w
Dilara Can I join? I am reading Producteurs et parasites: l'imaginaire si désirable du Rassemblement national which is about the way reactionary, anti-social, anti-egalitarian values have spread and are paving the way for the far right. 2w
AnnCrystal 👸👏🏼🥳👌🏼💝...🆒😉👍🏼 I'm such a sluggish reader and I've quit mail-ordering again (therefore it's difficult to seek out specific books), so this kind of book club is a perfect readers club!

I'm currently reading, To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose already has a bit of racism and oppression weaved into the storyline.

2w
AnnCrystal Fictional books count?? 2w
Amiable @CBee @dabbe I went through a period in my 20s when I read everything I could find on serial killers. I don‘t know why but I was completely obsessed. 😳🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
Amiable @AnnCrystal Fiction books can absolutely count! @Chrissyreadit kicked off the new hashtag #overcomingevilempires with a few fiction titles. 2w
Chrissyreadit @AnnCrystal any book counts as long as there are no overt, subvert, subliminal messages supporting authoritarian/fascist govt and beliefs…. I love that even romances today focus on consent, overcoming greed and overcoming harmful people in power (Ali Hazelwood and Bride come to mind specifically) 2w
CBee @Amiable same!! It‘s a fascination with the why, I think. How could someone get to that place? It‘s why I‘ve always read a lot about the Holocaust as well. How could anyone be so evil? I‘ll never understand. 2w
Amiable @CBee Exactly!! Have you ever read this one? It‘s a discussion about the difference between “successful” and “unsuccessful” sociopaths—how people who fall on the sociopath spectrum often gravitate to certain careers where they can be/are wildly successful. And why being a sociopath helps them succeed. It‘s fascinating and I still talk about it a lot. 2w
CBee @Amiable I haven‘t but I‘m stacking it - thank you 😊 2w
dabbe @CBee Do you remember who you wrote about? And of course I would have loved to read it! 😍 2w
dabbe @CBee Oh, I can't wait to hear about this! 🥰 2w
dabbe @Amiable 🩵🎯🩵 2w
CBee @dabbe some of the more known killers but a few not as well known. Gosh I wish I still had that paper somewhere! 2w
dabbe @CBee No worries! But now you have me wanting to research some serial killers! Summer escapism at its best. How psycho am I? 🤪 2w
AnnCrystal @Chrissyreadit 🆒🥳👍🏼...loved Bride by Ali Hazelwood, it was incredible 👏🏼📚😉👍🏼💝. 2w
AnnCrystal @Amiable 🆒 thanks for this info . Logging it. Love that hashtag! 👏🏼😉📚💝💝💝. 2w
CBee @dabbe not psycho! Intrigued! 2w
Sace @CBee I‘m fascinated by them too (especially Bundy). 1w
CBee @Sace 👏🏻👏🏻 I read a fictional book based on Bundy (he is never named) and it focuses on the victims and survivors. It was a good one: 1w
Sace @CBee I‘ll have to check that one out! Oddly enough I‘ve never read The Stranger Beside Me. 1w
Chrissyreadit @Sace The Stranger Beside Me is terrifying and a pretty good book! 1w
CBee @Sace that one is good! I read it years ago. Probably foreshadowing for my research paper I wrote in college! 1w
Catsandbooks Fantastic idea Chrissy! ✊🏼🔥 1w
