This one was rough to read at times. And I didn't always connect with Queenie. But I loved the narrative of someone struggling with and finally accepting help with mental health. Especially someone from a culture that doesn't typically acknowledge mental health issues. #botm

After a few failed attempts, I finally found a Cli-fi book that drew me in. It was scary because it seemed like an actual possibility. In honor of Autism Awareness Month, what are your favorite books that feature a character with autism? These are mine. My two oldest kids are on the spectrum so I always love reading stories with characters like them!

maleahrae @Jilly6183 I haven't read that one! I'm adding it to my list! 2mo
Emilymdxn Non fiction rather than fiction but I thought this one was an incredibly readable well written account of the history of understanding and diagnosing autism and the history of discrimination people have faced. Luckily, no phone calls from angry parents yet wondering why I'm cursing at their kids...?

I was able to finish this compelling story today. Of course my bleeding heart wants to fix everything for everyone but that's not possible, nor do I think that's what the author was asking for. Instead, I was struck by how judged and dehumanized she felt just trying to work and take care of her daughter in a tough situation. Being cognizant of how I view and treat people no matter their situation is something I CAN do. #booked2019 #newin2019
