This is the large print edition. It was a good book that was well written and kept me engaged. The author cleverly weaves 3 stories together to build a Nazi hunter story. The characters are believable and although the reader can see where the author is heading it‘s still a good read.

June was my best reading month yet (it helps that school's out for summer. )! I read 18 books (5,846 pages), 4 of which were audio books. My very favorites were All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Cook, Darius the Great is Not Okay, and 84 Charing Cross Road.

I‘ve avoided WWII books for years, don‘t ask why, but I picked this one for work book club and loved it. The multiple POVs were handled well, I learned about aspects of history I hadn‘t known (like the Soviet Air Force‘s female fighter & bomber pilots), and the book raised important & still relevant questions about war crimes, following orders vs. doing the right thing, and following your dreams versus societal expectations. 4 1/2 🌟

kspenmoll I really enjoyed this book & it‘s information on Russian women pilots- and more! 4w
TrishB I avoided for about 2 years too and have only recently restarted. 4w

Nothing compares to The Alice Network, but this book was entertaining and suspenseful with some of the best developed characters. It brings to the forefront of historical knowledge the battle cry for recognition of the contribution of women during wartime, and that's something I greatly appreciate about the two books by Kate Quinn that I've read so far.

Has anyone read her Empress of Rome series? That is next on my list.

Melissa_J I‘ve read her Rome books. I loved them! I actually prefer the Rome novels to her WWII stuff (although The Huntress comes darn close), and I really hope she goes back to writing about Rome. 1mo

Finished Auntie Poldi last night before crashing - it was cute, but like, my mom is almost 60 and happens to be super-cool...and none of the 60 year-olds I know are nearly as old-seeming as Auntie Poldi seems. She reads WAY older, so that bugged me, acting like 60 is sooooo old and eccentric - but now on to “The Huntress!” I‘ve heard great things about Kate Quinn, so! #thehuntress #katequinn

Although the plot was predictable, I enjoyed the story. The story was told from three viewpoints in different timelines that converged at the end. As with most multiple viewpoints, I preferred two and rushed through the third, which slowed down the action. It really should have been its own book. The characters were interesting, although at times the dialogue seemed a bit modern for a story that takes place during WWII to 1950. A pleasant read.

marleed I really liked this book. But I get what you mean about placing a 2019 mindset in a 1940s character. I felt that way in the tv version of outlander. A woman from the 1940s went back in time not a woman from the 2010s! 1mo

The writing is excellent and it grabs your attention from page one. I rather wish there was a small glossary to see what Nina says in Russian (although I‘m sure it‘s rather colorful language) but other than that small bit, the characters are engaging, and it‘s nice how they all come together in the last third of the book. If you are stickler for history perhaps this isn‘t for you - it‘s more character and story driven. Still greatly recommended!

What does an English journalist and ex-Russian female bomber pilot have in common in post WWII? Vengeance, escape and pursuit evolve in this gripping novel in search of Nazi war criminals. The hunt is sought with great passion and becomes complicated when young J McBride, budding Boston photographer becomes entangled in a very personal aspect of "the hunt"! How far would one go to keep a secret? If you're The Huntress-VERY FAR?

An American, a Nazi, and a Russian walk into a bar ...

Seriously though, this is an excellent World War II story. The twist on this one is that all three of the above mentioned people are women. Nina is one of the first female pilots of the Red Air Force. Anneliese is a Nazi murderous who fled to the United States to avoid the Nuremberg trials. Jordan gets stuck in the middle when her father marries Anneliese.

Spectacular, spectacular
No words in the vernacular
Could describe this Soviet Night Witch
On the prowl for a German Huntress!

Everything about this book worked - the hunt, the hunted, the huntress and the one and only Nina Markova and that‘s saying a lot given how trope-y WWII fiction has become. I certainly didn‘t want to read yet another spin on the same ole wartime yarn...too easy to go from staid to boring to cliched.

Mehso-so

Finished on audio last week...and am honestly still trying to decide how I feel about it. This was my first Kate Quinn that I finished—I DNFed The Alice Network because I have quibbles with the author‘s portrayal of dialogue for the time period. She seems to write dialogue and indeed, characters, even, who appear and speak more modern than the time period she is depicting. (Continues in comments)

aschermetz That said, it wasn‘t a dealbreaker for this book, though I could have done entirely without Ian‘s portion of the story. I found myself wanting to skip the Ian sections to get back to Jordan and Nina‘s stories. I liked this book enough to finish it but can‘t say it‘s the strongest historical fiction I‘ve read recently. I feel pretty meh about this one overall. (edited) 2mo
